They Live In A Haunted Neighborhood. There's A Ghost In My Home.

Another Old House.

The Ghost In The House.

We have friends who bought an old house built in 1876. It’s a beauty and in pretty good shape. It has one big problem this house is haunted. There are ghosts. They’re not sure how many. This is a true story.

My husband and I have slept there and never noticed a thing. We didn't see anything and we didn't hear anything. They’re a nice couple with children. They don’t want the kids scared of the house. The lady of the house said her house is haunted. The ghost would be Mr. Jones the former owner and builder of the house. Mr. Jones and his wife died in the home. This is Mr. Jones in the drawing.

The Shadow In The Kitchen

At times when she was at work and the kids were in school. Her husband would hear noise in the house and go looking to see who was home but find nothing. They have pets and sometimes you just don’t know what the pets are doing and a noise could always be the pets. Old houses seem to make noises all on their own. The dog would growl at nothing.

One evening she was on the deck with a neighbor and the light was on in the kitchen shining out over the deck. They saw a large shadow go over the deck. The neighbor asks who was in her house. When she explained no one was home they decide to investigate. They went to the front door which she had locked. They checked the house and couldn't find anyone.

Daughter On The Stairs

One evening her daughter got up to go to the bathroom. When she noticed someone in the bathroom (thinking it was her mom). She went downstairs to the other bathroom. When she came back up she realized it had not been her Mom. The next day she said, “Mom I have something to tell you and I don’t want to talk about it again because it scares me.”

She proceeded to tell her about the bathroom. Her Mom let her know she had not been in the bathroom and it couldn't have been anyone else because no one else was home. Her daughter also told her about going down the stairs. She felt someone else coming up the stairs and rubbing against her shoulder. She couldn't see this person but could feel it.

Dorothy Doors

The Backyard and The Dorothy Doors.

They have two doors that go into the basement and they call them Dorothy doors. The doors named after the Wizard of Oz. One night she and her husband were standing outside by the garage. She was looking over his shoulder into the backyard. He said he saw her eyes get big and saw the complete shock on her face. When he ask her what was wrong she told him she had seen a ghost. The low block wall just behind the patio table in the picture to the right, that's where the ghost came from. He crawled from behind the block fence crossed the yard and went into the closed locked Dorothy doors.

She said the ghost bent low and had a bright white shine. He was young. Her husband went in the house and checked all around and found nothing. She said until she saw this ghost she had always thought it would be the old man. Now she doesn't know what to think. They’re trying to keep this last incident a secret from the kids. They love their home and don’t want to move. If the ghost problem got bad and started to upset the kids they may have to move.

She said it seemed this ghost was trying to hide by crawling low and maybe not realizing his body let off a white glow.

All The Work In The Home

They have worked hard on this house remodeled fix anything that was wrong with it. They don't want to move.

I have done a little investigating on the house. I found the family on Ancestry. They had two children a boy and a girl. The boy was still living with them when he was 38. The man in the picture was the owner and was a telegraph operator and station worker for the railroad. If we look out the back window of the house we can see the lights flashing when the train is coming. Could this ghost be from the first family that lived in the house or from somewhere else? The house is old it has had many families live in it. It could be anyone from those families or someone who may have been killed in that area. Maybe someone died on the railroad tracks. My investigating has not come up with much information about who it could be.

I guess we will never know. Would you want to live in an old ghost house?

My worry is that the ghost in this house may get mean. I don't know about anyone else, but I would be afraid of a ghost that actually shows itself. I think something like this could be evil.

I have to tell you how this story came out right at Halloween. We had our 50th wedding anniversary at the beginning of Oct. We went to dinner with family and a few friends. While we were all sitting around the table she told us what had happened and how scared she was. When I heard the story I thought it would be a good story for HubPages. There is more I could tell you, but they don't want anyone to know where the house is.

The old house across from our friend's house. It was once there now gone.

The old house across from our friend's house. It was once there now gone.

Unknown Old House.

They recently found out something that they never knew. There had always been a church parking lot across the street from their house. They never realized at one time there had been a house right across from their home. They tore it down to make way for the parking lot. Makes a person wonder are the ghost from the old house which was once across the street. The ghost can't find their old home and just came across the street to my friend's house. Guess we will never know. The picture is of the old house that use to be in the parking lot.

Last week she took her daughter to the doctor for a sore throat. The nurse said, “Oh you live 124 Grant the neighborhood where the active goes on. My friend asks her what she meant and she told her the neighborhood is where all the ghosts are. The whole neighborhood has had problems with ghosts for years. Her little girl right away said she had seen a ghost in their house.

My friend said if she had known about the neighborhood she would have never bought the house.

The house is now For Sale.

My friend went looking for a house. She took her daughter with her. The minute they walked into one house her daughter got a funny look on her face and wouldn't look around. When they got out of the house the little girl told her mom she didn't like the house. She had an awful feeling when they walked into it. It was an old home maybe 100 years old. It had been on the market for 4 years but after what her daughter said she marked it off their list. This little girl was the only one that had seen (other than her mother) and felt a ghost in the house. Maybe she this child is sensitive to that kind of thing.

Our Old Farm House

We live in an old farmhouse. The owner of the house and his wife died here. He died outside by the wood pile while chopping wood. She died in the kitchen from an aneurysm.

We have never felt anything evil here, but I have heard two people talking in the middle of the night. I would get up thinking we forgot to turn off the television but would check it and find it off. Things do disappear and other items will show up in the middle of the floor when I know I put the item away.

We brought home a small kitten that has never felt at home here. When he was tiny he would sleep on my head and watch the bedroom door. He has always acted like he heard something or saw something.

He's grown now and he still acts like that. I have now moved he is a happier calmer cat.

There could be an explanation for everything we experienced in our home. I don't know how my friend could explain away a crawling ghost

Dictionary Explantion of a Ghost:

The soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imagined, usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons.

YouTube is full of videos of the paranormal. Some of the stories are just funny and some with people that have actually had experiences.

There is also talk of a haunted house in Augusta, Wisconsin. The home was featured on The Haunted Show called "The Possession of Cassie".

Orbs are also thought to be ghosts. We went out one night to our pet cemetery and I took pictures. The orbs in the cemetery can be seen in the photo below. This was a clear night, not real hot and not cold at all.

I often take photos at night and often have orbs in them even with my new camera.

Orbs In Our Pet Cemetery.

My husband and I often saw black shadows. We never felt unsafe in the house. I figured maybe we just imagined the shadows.

I recently had to move to another house. This house doesn't have black shadows and no voices during the night.

A few weeks ago I had to go back to the old house. My son-in-law came into the basement where I was packing up a few things. He said he saw a shadow behind me that shouldn't have been there. He told my daughter right away but didn't tell me until a few days ago. I never felt a thing must have been one of the old ghost I had lived with for 11 years.

Peg Cole from North Dallas, Texas on May 05, 2017:

This story captured my attention from the wonderful drawing in the first photo to the possibilities of the uninvited guest. Sometimes you just get a feeling that something isn't quite right about a place, whether it's a cold shiver or a strange noise. I once helped a friend move into an old converted home made into apartments. He wouldn't even stay the night as he felt really uncomfortable when night fell. Better to be safe.

Dolores Monet, I guess it would be kind of rotten not to tell someone about a ghost but really what can you do. They would look at you like your crazy if you explained there was a ghost in the house. In some states, you do have disclose if there is a ghost in your house.

moonlake (author) from America on April 12, 2016:

Sunshine625, I think I have lived with two friendly ghosts for many years. They don't bother me I don't bother them.

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on April 11, 2016:

Any time I watch scary movies the first thing I think is that they should move out. You mentioned one house on the market for 4 years. Maybe there was a reason for that. I guess if the house is haunted one should shut up about it and sell. But that seems kind of rotten, to dump a haunted house on someone else.

Linda Bilyeu from Orlando, FL on November 13, 2015:

I prefer to think of ghosts like Casper the Friendly Ghost, not ghosts that haunt and frighten us. Chances are I would sell the house! :)

Very interesting article. I don't poo-pooh the idea of ghosts at all, but think it might be a natural phenomenon, like an interdimensional echo of events that actually occurred at some time. Great hub!

moonlake, I love scary, ghost stories and have had creepy, hair on end feelings in some old houses. I have never seen a ghost, but tend to keep an open mind about the unexplainable. This is a very interesting hub which I enjoyed reading. Two of my sisters claim to have seen a ghost in our old now abandoned farm home. The house was built around 1900 and according to my family, one of the previous occupants committed suicide in the house years ago. I have never seen a ghost in the house, and won't believe in ghosts until I actually see one. My father once said to me that dead people can't hurt you. It's only the living that can harm you. I once lived in a haunted house. I hated it and had to move away. There was so much happening, you wouldn't believe! One night I was awoken by hands round my throat! Another night my bedroom door handle was rattled and I sat up and shouted at the ghost to go away.

The last straw was when the ghost flooded the house in the night. A key had been turned which was physically impossible to do without a special tool. We got the exorcists in who declared the house was riddled with poltergeists. Other neighbours suffered from problems too and we later found that the area was built on a former Roman graveyard!

Zubair Ahmed on June 21, 2013:

Nice interesting hub thank you for sharing. I once went to a haunted restaurant, the owners had stories e.g. they would tidy everything in the bar at nights only to return in the morning and find all pint glasses on top of the bar, appearing as if someone had drank using the glasses. Other times they would hear laughter in the kitchen only to find that no one was there.

The hauntings are real for sure...It can definitely cause a shiver...

My sister had one or maybe two in her house in Pennyslvania. It especially delighted in spooking overnight guests. One of our visits to her home, my daughter and her husband told us the following in the morning...Mom, we were sleeping and all of a sudden the covers were pulled off of us, rather gently. We thought maybe they had just slipped off for one reason or another. We pulled them up and again and in a few minutes...it happened again...off went the covers not so gently. That's why we hurried down stairs and slept on the floor!!!

I had a few experiences myself while visiting there. On several occasions I was home alone when I visited. I was working in my sister's sewing room one day organizing her thread. My efforts were to no avail because as soon as they were organized in the little trays a few would pop out and roll across the floor. Surprisingly I did not scream and run out of the room...I just chuckled and kept picking them up...

thanks for sharing this with us...Angels are on the way ps

I love this story. I love scary stories. I once had an experience with a ghost. I was awoken from a deep sleep when the blankets where ripped off of me. I was alone in the house.

I can't say for sure, but I feel that's when my mother, who lived in another country at the time passed away. I never did find out for sure because we weren't on speaking terms when she died; therefore I couldn't tell if the moment of her death coincided with the incident.

When we were first married we lived in a haunted house. At least that is the only way I can explain what when on in the house. A lady talked with me one day. My little girl asked me who it was, so I wasn't the only one that heard it. She gave me good advice. Everybody acted like I was losing it until my sister babysat and saw her face in the TV.

Then I had a babysitter that left early, because she said my house was haunted and she was afraid. Fans, lights etc would turn off on their own.

It was odd, but the lady seemed to be nice. We didn't live there for long. I wasn't afraid of her. She never did anything wrong.

This was really interesting and creepy. So many of us have a fear of unknowns and it's so easy to suggest there are no such things as ghosts when in fact, we should hesitate before saying this. I also think renovation is supposed to increase activity. There is a theory that the ghost sees what was there when they were, and renovations kinda hinder their illusions and disturb them. Hopefully this will ease back off and they won't have to sell. The sketch is wonderful, I hope it is framed and hung in the house?

Ms. Immortal from NJ on November 10, 2012:

I was very attracted to this post, because for some reason ,I love being scared. It is nice and creepy :o)

I have actually met a woman who calls herself a ghost hunter. She is a regular lady who's hobby is talking to ghosts. According to this ghost hunter, you can use a tape recorder (any kind) ask questions and then play it back for the answer.

She and her ghost hunter friends often spend the night in haunted hotels for this purpose. She will leave the recorder running all night while sleeping in her hotel room. So far, she has only come across one unfriendly ghost, who yelled several times, "Go away!"

According the the GH, it is not any easy thing for ghosts to leave messages on recordings, so you will just get a word or two. But, the more practiced the ghosts are at recording, the better they get.

The ghosts in Gettysburg for instance, are used to ghost hunters. Not only are they good conversationalists they have a relationship with the ghost hunters, who come on a regular basis; they even call them by name.

They have developed a system where they can have lenghty conversations with the Gettyburg ghosts through recording.

I have no personal experience with this, but am planning a trip to Gettysburg to check it out.

I am thinking they may want to try recording the ghosts. This would make a great future post!

We've all experienced that unexplained open door or who closed the curtains moment...I definitely believe in ghosts (can't help myself) and this truly sounds like this house is haunted. I feel sorry for your friends but enjoyed the hub.

Your drawing is fantastic! You are a lady of so many talents!!

Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting.

I know spooky isn't it. I wish they knew what was going on. I don't know if they will ever find out. Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment.

This is a great hub is publish so close to Halloween, moonlake! You've told an interesting - and scary - story. I would love to discover what is actually happening in the house. What a strange situation!

sgbrown, So glad you stop by. No I didn't do the drawing the drawing was found in the house after they moved in. The house is listed in the Historical Society webpage and on there they have a picture of this man and his wife.

I wish I could draw like that. I have a sister that can.

Thanks for the vote very appreciated.

Au fait, I don't know what to say she knows what she saw and she is upset over it. We always just joked around about these things noises in the night and all of that now we don't know what to think.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Thank you for the vote and share I appreciate it.

I can't say that I believe in ghosts, as I have never seen one, but I can't say they don't exist either. This is a very good story! Did you do the drawing in the first pictures, it is excellent! I really enjoyed your hub. Voted up and interesting. Have a wonderful day! :)

Just in time for Halloween! A great story for this time of year. I don't doubt the experiences you write about here, but I do not believe there are such things as ghosts.

Up & Interesting! Will share.

Jamie Brock, They may have to do that if things got worse. It's not likely they will turn mean or I think they would have before this. She did fall down the stairs and I ask her if she thought she was pushed she said no she was wearing flip flops and that is more likely her problem with falling not a ghost. Thanks so much for stopping by I appreciate it.

moonlake- I haven't seen a ghost firsthand but I have read a lot about them and from what I understand, if it's a true ghost, spirit of deceased, they rarely are malevolent or try to hurt people.... it's just that people get scared and rightfully so. Hopefully the ghost/ghosts will stay low key or finally maybe move on. I would hate for them to have to move after all the work they have put in. If it ever did become a problem, there are people that they can call to come and cleanse the house to help the spirits move on. I'm not sure how they would go about finding them though. There was a ghost research group in a small town I used to live in.. maybe there is one near them. I hope everything works out for them.

Joyce, Thanks so much for coming by. It is very spooky. I appreciate your comment.

aviannovice, I don't think it would become mean but who knows. It seems to be showing itself much more. She was fine with the old man when she thought it was him but when she saw the young guy that worried her she said it felt so creepy. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate it.

Joyce Haragsim from Southern Nevada on October 17, 2012:

This is truly spooky.

vote up and awesome for the great write, Joyce.

Deb Hirt from Stillwater, OK on October 17, 2012:

Sounds pretty interesting. Since you have had no contact with the ghost, it might not want to leave. Why would it become mean?

moonlake (author) from America on October 16, 2012:

Sunnie Day, They don't want to move and she was really spooked by this but she says the things that happen don't happen often and she has not heard any stories from the other children just the one daughter. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.
