Pigs like humans are omnivores (now you know you have a common trait with a pig). If they have the opportunity they like nothing more than a good old root and forage. These animals only defecate near their eating and resting place due to a lack of space. Like a domestic dog or cat with adequate room they will allocate their bathroom spot. Pigs will eat anything, hence the saying:
''As greedy as a pig.''
Greed, aka avarice and/or covetousness is a desire for wealth and status. The wanting of superior power resulting in the fall of others with no spiritual qualms whatsoever. Such a greed will send you spiraling into depths that most of us will only ever experience at the hands of our worst nightmare. While we will wake sweaty and fearful, our memory will fade almost instantly but your swirling depts will only get blacker, darker and deeper.
Greed: a selfish and often manipulative trait; encourages far more than an unhealthy desire for money and wealth. Stirring emotions of the worst and darkest kind. To the extent of being disloyal to our friends and our loved ones. Betrayal is often a damning consequence of greed.
Plutolatry is the worship of money. Plutocracy (wealth ruler) is when the degree of economic inequality is high while the level of social mobility is low. In mere mortal language an economy significantly influenced by the very wealthy. In complete lay terms the guy in the castle gets all the votes, while the little fella at the loom or down the coal mine doesn't even know the meaning of the word vote. Supposedly all this Plutocracy business was rectified in the early 20th century! However looking at the balance of our world and it's rulers, I'm not so sure. In my humble opinion it's all a whole lot of Plutonomics!
Seven: this movie is a devious, ugly and terrifying account of murders based on the 7 Deadly Sins...
It's Mine! All Mine!
The King of The Castle
What are all wars about? Take a seat and think about it. What is the answer? lands; riches; gold; money; beauty; armies; leadership; cloth; silk; adornment. What? Desire: the desire to have what belongs to another albeit on a grander scale a desire so wanton it's nothing more than pure greed. Greed, that is what wars have always been about and will continue to be about. The grass is always greener till we jump the fence! The apple is always sweeter till we find the worm! Another countries oil should surely be shared, so we will take it. And diamonds really are forever, forever ours so lets take them. Let us take what we desire and to hell with the consequences.
The drive that spurns some people onward and upward is their deep desire to succeed. And indeed they are to be congratulated. The strength of their ambition takes them to highs that only a true fighter of great stamina could ever reach! Beyond that, is that greed?
The lesser driven: shall you wallow like a pig in muck? Perhaps, but let me tell you; a pig wallows in muck only to cool a hot and itchy skin. That muck my friend is a luxury, if you are the unlucky fellow to experience such an unpleasant predicament as to be in that hot and itchy skin!
The 10th Commandment: Greed is the 10th of the commandments.
''You shall not covet your neighbour's house, wife (I'll add husband) nor his male, female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey (probably be a car or 4x4 these days), nor anything that is your neighbour's.''
To be perfectly clear, that means you can't even think about wanting anything that belongs to your neighbour let alone actually taking it. Understood. Now stop drooling and go do something productive.
The Ultimate Greed
Notoriously of course, people will be people and therefore they will do what people will do! There is nothing nice about being greedy. Wanting what's not yours and being ruthless to get it, is a very selfish and nasty quality to possess. Perhaps there is more than enough room for a little reflection on how you live your life and what desires you wish for. Take a leaf out of the reformed Scrooge's book. At least trying to be a better person is better than doing nothing at all. No one said you have to be perfect.
It's My Last Rolo... Get Off!
I won't admit to being generous to a fault. Nor do I always think of others. I can at best be a good host at a party or offer my services when the need is required. I know my better attributes and am happy on occasion to provide them.
The joy of wealth may precede me only to be called a liar! I am guilty as charged in many corners of my life. But never as the day is long, shall I stand before any stranger and admit nor be accused of being: ''As greedy as a pig!''
A Famous Quote
I found this quote from Mother Teresa and thought it appropriate.
''Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.''
The Seven Deadly Sins
- What Are The Seven Deadly Sins?
A synopsis of the seven deadly sins. What is a capital sin? What are the seven deadly sins?
Not Greedy: Perhaps You Are Lustful?
- Is lust a sin?
Lust is the desire to experience physical pleasures especially sexual. Lust for power is also top of the list, with an intense craving to rule not just your own roost, but everyone's, from the top floor down....

Very interesting. Greed is definitely a sin many of us struggle with!

This was worthy of a tweet. Let's see if our friends at Occupy and The Corporation like it! :)

Yes I remember that song.
You know sometimes I think our world is nothing more than a vicious circle of self obsessed leaders that care more about their image and hearing their own voices than anything else. However, on other days I think perhaps the future will be brighter and less polluted by greed. Of course that may be because there is nothing worth having left!
You sound like a very interesting person. Thank you for your comment :)

Your wisdom and honesty is unprecedented, sir! One has to ask why was FDR elected 4X. Everyone in this country needs to take a core curriculum of logic in their high school years. The politicians and their benefactors are guaranteeing the complete destruction of our democracy. As you state, we need safeguards against our own human nature. I don't know if you've ever listened to Pink Floyd's album 'Animals.' The gist of the album is that our need to survive, and better yet, succeed, has us preening to the powers that be. The pigs are wealthy and powerful, the dogs are the capitalists, the sheep are the pig's ideal subjects, the pigs on the wing are the wannabes. The message is well hidden and, when it first came out, I never understood it. Your hub had me thinking of that album. I haven't listened to it for quite a while because it is more depressing now than ever.

I wish people could just stop and listen to there hearts. Life is so much better and easier when you do. Maybe we can change the world one hub at a time.
Thank you and nice to meet you too.

Hi Jeweiz1313. You sound like a very decent person; I'm pretty sure you are changing the world with the good things you do and in the way you do them. Imagine if everyone could do the same. Gosh! the world would be a wonderful place.
Nice to meet you :)
Jewelz1313 from Branson, Missouri on January 11, 2012:
Nice hub. It is a shame that there is so much greed in the world. I do my best to try and remain humble and to do good deeds (without telling anyone) that I can in hopes that it will have a snowball effect, or even have the smallest positive effect on the world. I don't know if I can change the world or not, but I'm never giving up.
