Stairway to heaven

Every Christian should read the Book of Revelation because of its benefits.

  1. Revelation is a book of hope.
  2. It is a book of expectation.
  3. It is a book of promises for the redeemed.
  4. Revelation is the only book that says a blessing is in store for those who read it.

Those who are not redeemed find the book difficult to read. Some people are afraid to read the book.

According to the Book of Revelation, there are five new things that only the redeemed will receive.

  1. A new name
  2. A new song that no one has ever heard
  3. A new Jerusalem
  4. A new heaven
  5. A new earth

1. A New Name

The redeemed will be given a new name in heaven. That name will be different from the name people have here on earth. Those who don't like their name now shouldn't worry about it because that name is only temporary.

Some people, especially celebrities change their names.

2. A New Song

According to Revelation 5:9 and Revelation 14:3, the redeemed are promised a new song. That will be a new song that only the redeemed will learn and sing. Like the new name, the new song will be given only to the redeemed.

The new song is not given to anybody while on earth. No one will be able to rehearse it here on earth. They will not be able to go to a record store to buy the sheet music for it. The most talented choir director will not be able to lead anyone to sing it.

The new song will be sung in melodious harmony by everyone. This new song will be sung to shout praises to God for the redeemed will praise Him in heaven as well as on earth.

3. The New Jerusalem

An entire city will come down from heaven to replace this earth, according to Revelation 21:1-5. The holy city will be perfect and ideal.

In the new Jerusalem, the sun and the moon will no longer be needed for light because the glory of God Himself will light up the whole city. There will be no nighttime and darkness or any symbols of evil.

4. A New Heaven

The promise that God would create a new heaven was made in Isaiah 65:17. The new heaven will not be above as we know it to be today. The new heaven will be where this earth is now. This old earth will pass away with none of the evil on it as it is today.

The new heaven on earth will be filled with rejoicing and the residents will continually baste in God’s love and glory.

5. A New Earth

God also made a promise in Isaiah 65:17 that He would create a new earth along with a new heaven. He will change the world with a new heaven and a new earth.

Heaven and earth, as we know them to be today, will pass away (Matthew 24:35).

About the Gifts the Redeemed Will Receive

There are an individual gift and several community gifts.

  1. New name (individual gift)
  2. New song (community gift)
  3. New Jerusalem (community of believers)
  4. New heaven (community of believers)
  5. New earth (community of believers)

God told us that we can receive these five new things in heaven if we receive the new thing He did by sending His Son who died on a new cross, who was buried in a new tomb that was not His own, who arose in all power on the third day so we could be in line for those new things.

Jesus gave His life so we could have life abundantly on this earth, but more importantly so that in heaven we may be given a new name, a new song, a new Jerusalem, a new heaven and a new earth.

Dave and Dian'sword4u: I am homesick for heaven and can't wait to get the five new things in heaven. I often say, "Come, Lord Jesus" because I'm fired up and ready to go.

Thanks for reading and responding.

I don't know about you , but I am ready and rarring to go. Thanks for this. I love to talk about heaven and all that we will have there. This just gets me up in a high motivated mode and wanting to work harder to see that others come to know my Jesus for this is the way to heaven.

I've been looking forward to all of this newness for quite some time now. One day my God will call me back home.
