Break Up Spells

It's February, and I got to thinking about the things going on in the world this month. Spring is ready to stir and rise. This month is Valentine’s Day, and love is in the air. But for some people, love is the last thing on their mind.

Not everyone feels quite so lovey-dovey in February, especially those who have had a break-up. This may have been a recent break up that's still a fresh wound, or perhaps one that was just so bad that it’s still a load of baggage weighing you down.

If you’re in this position, you may not be thinking about love spells right now. In fact, break up spells may be a better option. I don’t mean spells that end relationships between two other people; that would not be ethical as far as Wicca spells go. I’m talk about break up spells that will finally help you put that lingering break up to rest.

Note: This spell does not need to be cast in February to be effective.

How to Cast Break Up Spells That Work

Timing for Casting this Spell

Magical timing is not practiced by every Witch, but it’s helpful whey trying to cast spells that work. This spell can be cast during the waning moon of any month.

Ideally, cast this spell when you’re past the half-moon phase and approaching the dark moon. That draws some powerful banishing energy good for ending things.

When the moon is in Scorpio it's also a good time for spells that end relationships and for putting things to rest.

Saturdays are a good day as well. If you can find a waning moon on a Saturday-- bingo. Even better if you can find a waning moon on a Saturday when the moon is in Scorpio!

Sundays are also not bad timing for this kind of spell, as it's a time for re-aligning your goals and priorities. If you like to work with planetary hours (see how to calculate planetary hours), go for an hour ruled by the Sun as well.

Spell to End Bad Relationship Feelings

Casting the Break Up Spell

Spells that work don’t need to be done in a full blown ritual, but you can perform this break up spell during an esbat if you wish. Either way, you need a surface to put your two plants and photos in front of you, and a comfortable place to sit in front of them to meditate. Also make sure you bring your pen to the work space.

At the last minute, make your lemon water and bring it to cast the spell.

When you’re ready, dim the lights (or light some candles for atmosphere) and relax. If you’re doing a ritual, finish your opening and observance. You may wish to invoke your God or Goddess, if you haven’t already. This is all up to you and whatever will make you feel ready for casting the spell.

Spend a few moments just focusing on your breath. Don’t force it—just become aware of it and let it anchor your consciousness in the moment.

Take the photo in your hand and remember your ex. Focus on the bad memories—the hurt, the pain, the anger and frustration. Focus on everything that confirms for you that the relationship is not what you want. Stare at the picture as you do this.

When you’re ready, turn the picture over, grab the pen, and write on it: This relationship is dead. Let the residual bad feelings I’m still carrying rot away with it so that the universe may receive them and transform them into something positive.

Place the photo on the plant (stick it between the soil and the pot if necessary to hold it there).

Put your hand around the flower pot or on the soil and just ground that baneful, unhappy energy into this plant. Just pour it all in. Close your eyes and envision this negativity in your aura— what does it look like? Black flack or an oily blue slick? Maybe you can’t “see” it— use your other senses. What would it smell like (burning smoke, sour milk)? What would it sound like (a mournful wail)? What would it taste like (something bitter and rotting)? Whatever it is, imagine it coming out of you and being absorbed by the plant.

Okay—take a deep breath. You might be shaking, crying, depressed or just plain drained. Spells that end relationships can do that to you. It’s okay. Relax, breathe and drink your lemon water. It will cleanse you and give you a lift.

Continuing the Break Up Spell

Now take the picture of you alone. It’s you happy, satisfied, fulfilled. Draw on those memories and embrace those feelings for the moment. Bring them up from within and let them wash over you. Hold onto them for as long as you can.

When you’re ready, turn the picture over and write: I am a whole and complete person on my own and choose to cultivate joy, happiness and a positive future for myself.

Place it on your mint plant (or one of the other plants to represent your future). Take that plant and perform a positive meditation. For your convenience I have included a meditation video you can use.

Allow your loving, happy energies to build, breathe them in and breathe them into the plant. Don’t pour them all into the plant, just let the plant absorb some along with you.

When the spell is cast, place the Venus flytrap (or the plant representing your past relationship) in a dark corner somewhere. You’re going to ignore it, neglect it, and mistreat it. Don’t water it. Let it dry out, shrivel up and dry. If it’s not dying after a couple of weeks, put some raw meat in it’s traps or, if it’s not a fly trap, spray it with a little vinegar or pickle juice. Don’t look at it with any love, affection, longing or sympathy. It’s dead and over.

Meanwhile, put the mint plant (or the plant representing your future) on a bright and sunny windowsill. Nurture it and care for it. Water it, lightly but often, just enough to keep the soil damp and not let it dry out. Talk to it about a positive future and happiness and beauty, or just breathe on it with positive thoughts. Play lovely music around it.

If you feel unhappy at all about the break up during the next few weeks, just take your plant and repeat your positive meditation.

Cleansing Positive Meditation

Use the Magic of Herbs

Finishing the Break Up Spell

After three or four weeks, your mint plant should be flourishing. Harvest it, reclaiming all the love and good energy you put into it. Cook with those herbs—brew some tea, or make a pesto sauce. Just consume it in some way.

Bury the remains of both plants in two different places during the next waning moon. Throw the picture in with the Venus fly trap (or whatever plant you used to represent the relationship) and it’s done.

Take the picture of you being happy and put it somewhere-- frame it and put it in your home, or tack it up on your message board at work. Move on, refreshed and ready for your future.

When you're ready for love again, try casting a love spell.

Nice! Most everyone is thinking about love, but this is definitely creative! There are very likely many relationships where one person is considering how to do this!
