The Power of Prayer - A True Account

Theresa loves to share her true life accounts when the Lord shows up mightily in her life. She knows He still performs miracles today.

The Building in Which I Work in the City

A Gentle Push, but by Whom?

I work in a small government office of the state. So, we are a public office.

I had noticed that one of my co-workers seemed to be very burdened about something one week.

I learned later that his newborn grandson was having serious health problems to do with his little heart, maybe fluid on the heart or something of that nature. In addition to that, his mother and brother-in-law were both in the hospital as well, and none were doing well at all.

One morning that week, around 9:00 a.m.; I met my co-worker in the hallway. I noticed he did not look well at all. It looked as though he was about to breakdown and cry. His hands were shaking and one could tell he was extremely upset.

Now, all week long, the Holy Spirit had been prompting me to pray for my co-worker, his grandson, his mother and his brother-in-law, which I did pray. However, the Holy Spirit continued to convict me about praying, and so I realized He wanted me to actually pray with my co-worker right there at the office, a public office.

Every night that week, I prayed about it, and the convictions of the Holy Spirit were growing stronger and stronger. I guess I just did not want to step out in faith to pray publicly with my co-worker for some reason, and in the back of my mind I was thinking, i.e. what if I pray and something terrible happens to my co-workers family? It was just the enemy placing those doubts in my mind, as I know without a doubt the Lord can heal.

I even told the Lord, “Lord, I am praying right now for his family.” But for some unknown reason to me at the time, He wanted me to pray with my co-worker.

Do not Allow Fear to Prevent You from Doing What God Desires of You

Still, I just kept thinking, if something does go wrong, those who do not know the Lord would say, “See, prayer does not work. He does not listen and does not hear us.” As those thoughts were in my mind at that very moment, I then heard, in a gentle, loving, kind voice, “Dear child, do you not trust me? Where is your faith in me?”

Boy, my heart broke for my sweet Lord and His hurting due to my doubt!!!

I realize now, He wanted me to make that human connection with someone who needed comforting through prayer. Knowing that my co-worker is a Christian, it should not have been a big deal anyway.

One morning, I'll never forget, when I met my co-worker in the hallway, and it was obvious he was very upset; I went ahead and asked him how he was doing, and he commenced to tell me everything going on with his family. They were all serious health issues, especially his grandson’s.

Since we were standing right there in the hallway, and our office being a small office, with everyone’s offices right off the hallway, the other co-workers could hear our conversation. Another sister-in-Christ came out to hear about his family too.

My heart was about to break for my co-worker seeing him in such distress, and I heard the Lord saying, pray for him, pray for him, right now! I was standing up against the hallway wall, but then I felt a gentle push, and I had to actually take a step towards my co-worker. I even looked behind me, and of course no one was there.

Stepping out in Faith

It was then I asked my co-worker would he like for me to pray with him, and he said that he would like that very much. Silently, I asked the Lord to give me His words of what to say to comfort my co-worker. I then placed my hands on his arm and shoulder and begin to pray. I do not even remember what I prayed, but I know for sure the words coming out of my mouth were not mine; but that of the Holy Spirit.

Everyone in the office could hear the prayer, and my sister-in Christ standing there with me, was there in agreement with me in the prayer.

My co-worker thanked me, and he later went to meet his daughter (the mother of his grandson), and when he came back from work he told me he told his daughter about the prayer.

I went back to my office and told the Lord, “Well, Lord, I stepped out in faith and prayed as you desired?” Well, actually, I knew the Lord had sent an angel just that quick to give me a gentle push, as that was all I needed. Then a wonderful, sweet peace just came over me, and I knew all would be okay.

Later in the afternoon, around 2:00 p.m.; I could hear my co-worker talking on the phone and his voice sounded excited. Then I heard him receive another phone call, and then another one right after that, and his voice just grew louder and louder in excitement.

All of a sudden, my co-worker came out of his office and commenced to telling his supervisor something about his grandson. So, I went ahead and went up there to hear what the news was, and when I saw my co-worker, his eyes were bugging out of his head and tears were streaming down his face. I did not know what to think. Then, when he saw me coming down the hallway, he ran up to me and gave me a big hug and he said that he loved me and he thanked me.

I was not too sure for what, but then he commenced to tell me that he had received a call from his daughter that her son (his grandson), could go home, as the fluid or whatever just disappeared, just like that, and they did not know why! Then he said he had gotten two other calls saying that both his mother and brother-in-law could just go on home too, as whatever issues they were having just all of a sudden had gotten better enough for them to go home! Praise the Lord!!! To God be the glory!!!

I told my co-worker, “Do not thank me, thank the Lord, as He heard and He healed!”

Everyone in the office was a witness to the answer of prayer and this miracle.

I will never forget that day, when the Lord sent that angel down to give me a gentle push.

My co-worker started referring to his grandson as the miracle baby. That has been some years ago since that day, and my co-worker’s grandson is a beautiful, healthy boy to this day!!!

Thank you Jesus!!! All glory to God!

Casting Crowns - Glorious Day

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on May 07, 2017:

Hi Dear Peg,

Thank you for digging up this one. Yes, all praise and glory go to the Lord for He is mighty to answer and hear our prayers. I'll never forget that day and I am so glad I stepped up too ...and then for Him to reveal Himself to all!!! So powerful.

You are sweet to say that about missing me. I miss all of you and love each and every one of you. All is well; I'm just so busy with a lot of transitioning at work and elsewhere in life.

I do hope I'm not forgotten, as I do hope to resume writing on HubPages soon.

God bless you, lovely lady.

Peg Cole from Northeast of Dallas, Texas on April 26, 2017:

This beautiful testament to the power of prayer had me in tears. Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone to help this person in need and thanks to the Lord for answering your prayer. God bless you. You are missed.

Hi Dear Sparklea,

I am sorry for the late comment back! It is always such a blessing when you stop by to read and leave your heartfelt comments.

Yes, I never hesitate to pray anywhere now! I, too, believe the Lord wanted me to pray in that office that day without a doubt for His glory and He sent that angel down to give me a gentle push. We must always be sure to step out in faith and trust Hi and believe!

God bless you and yours too!

Oh Faith, I LOVE your stories! This makes my eyes well up! God has given you the gift of being a wonderful, courageous Prayer Warrior. I totally believe an angel DID give you that little push...your miracle with your own breast cancer - that is also a terrific testimony regarding the power of God - not to mention Scarlett!

Please keep sharing your miracle stories...I KNOW God will use them to minister to others, and hopefully lead many to our Lord and Saviour.

God bless you real good, always and forever!

I will answer your email now. Blessings Sparklea :)

Hi Dear Jenna,

Thank you so much for reading. Yes, we must step out in faith no matter if we ever know of the results or not indeed!

I will most certainly pray for total healing of your mom, Laura, and for both of your parents to experience the fullness of the healing power of Jesus-body, mind, and soul, and for protection.

I have experienced such healing myself by the Lord in 2011 when diagnosed with DCIS Breast Cancer. I have written about it. Anytime I know of the Lord healing, I write about it to His glory and His glory alone. I saw the cancer up on the screen. It was there, and then it was gone! The doctors were baffled, but insisted I still have radiation and a lumpectomy. Praise Him! To God be the glory!

I will ask other prayer warriors to pray also.

God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Jenna Ditsch from Illinois on November 19, 2013:

LOVE this. I've struggled with many of the same doubts when being asked to pray aloud for a person in an environment such as you described. I always try to think about the eternal perspective instead of the "now" earth perspective. In this case, you saw the results of the prayer--but even when we step out and don't see results right away, there might still be huge shockwaves of results that manifest eventually.

So--being that you are a woman of such faith--I'm going to step out and ask if you would please agree with me and pray for my mom, Laura. She has been diagnosed with Hurthle Cell Neoplasm on her thyroid and the doctors are going to remove the thyroid. They won't know if it is cancerous until they go in but I'm praying that its healed totally and when she goes to next doc appt. they can have a doctor-verified, medical miracle on their hands! She's had one physical attack after another--right after my dad had a congestive heart failure attack. Please pray for my parents to experience the fullness of the healing power of Jesus--body, mind, and soul, and for protection. Thanks so much for sharing your testimony--it increases my faith!!!

Hi Rolly,

So great to see you stopping by to read. Wow, thanks for sharing a bit about your story and your friend. Wow, that would make a profound subject for a hub. I would love to read about your experience, if you do write about it one day!!!

Hugs and love, Faith Reaper

Hi Faith Reaper... Thanks for sharing this and a blessing to read. We are all pushed. I ran from Him for years and yet it took someone with all the terrible things of my past to bring me to Him.

She was a backslider Christian, an alcoholic, drug abuser who led me to Him when I asked what it took to become a Christian... smiles... Maybe I should write about that day soon... Thanks for the read...

Hugs and Blessings... and much love...

Curiad - Praise God dearest one. It is always amazing to see how God is working things out in His perfect timing, and sometimes we have to go through things, and we do not know what He is up to, but He never stops loving you. We all love you dearly too and praying for you dear one. My heart is filled with joy this morning with your visit here. I received a blessing first thing. God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Faith, I just had an interesting thing happen the day before yesterday. I was out walking in Modesto where I have moved to, and I know no one here. As I walked down the street two Mormon young men stopped and asked how I was doing and in a few minutes conversation they told me that their church has a man the helps people get jobs and they offered to introduce me. Now I know the Mormons are very outgoing and they were doing their "duty" as young followers, but the interesting thing was that they just happened to be walking on the same street in the same time I was.

maggs - To God be the Glory!!! I thank my LORD GOD you were pushed too!!!! Sometimes, we all need a little push, and then we can step back and watch Him heal, save, loose those in bondage and set people free!!! I thank my LORD GOD that He has sent you here at HP to share this with me and all. When He does something, I love to tell the whole world what He has done. I love to boast in Him, as He is my King, my One, my Only. I just walked in the door after attending a women's conference at church about being set free in Christ, and then I came home and was blessed beyond measure with your visit here tonight. I pray you will stop by again and visit. Thank you so much for your awesome comments to glorify our LORD. God bless you dear one. In His Love, Faith Reaper

What an inspiring testimony of God’s grace and I love how He chooses just who He will use and when he will use them.

What a blessing when God lets us see how fruitful it is when we are pushed by Him instead of the one doing the pushing lol…

I can relate to the physical push, I was a steward at a Billy Graham meeting in a football ground many years ago.

When Billy gave the call, I was one of the people that were supposed to come alongside those who came forward to counsel and pray with them.

I had been talking with a minister whose wife was not a believer he had bullied her into coming to the meeting.

The minister acted in a very overbearing and arrogant manner he came across as a very unpleasant man.

He pointed out his wife to me and told me to counsel her and to put her straight where her duty lay.

We moved onto the pitch when Billy gave the call and the people streamed down onto the pitch. I waited until Billy started praying for those who had come forward and moved well away from this minister. I certainly did not want to be the one who ministered to his poor wife.

Satisfied that I was well away from both of them I started to pray it was then I got this push at the back of my knees that sent me forward a few paces.

I opened my eyes and looked around to see who had pushed me and though the pitch was crowded by this time, there was no one near enough to have done that.

I closed my eyes again and the same thing happened I looked around and still no one was near enough to push me it happened a third time but then I was left alone.

Billy finished praying and told those on the pitch to locate a steward who would give them some literature and counsel.

I felt a tug on my sleeve and it was this minister’s wife, the results were fruitful for both of us lol…

I love the song I have played it about eight times lol...

Voting up and hitting buttons as I go

Hello Dear Friend in Christ pstraubie - I am always so happy to have you stop by to read and leave the awesome comments that you always leave!!! Yes, the Holy Spirit had to work on me through the week, and then the LORD had to send an angel to give me a little push, then finally, I stepped out in faith. When I pray I have not one bit of doubt that He hears and heals, if that is His will, and we must understand that about His will, for it may not be the right time ---His perfect timing. His ways are not our ways - Praise Him for that!!! I never question, but just praise Him whatever the answer is - and I know He wanted me to pray that day, so that He would be glorified! God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Patricia Scott from North Central Florida on September 02, 2012:

Faith Reaper...First, our Lord knows what is in your heart and He knows we are humans and not divine so that when we doubt and have fears it is perfectly normal. We disappoint ourselves in those times but God is there to lift us up and support us each step of our way.

You found the courage because of that to pray for your coworker and his family. It is such a blessing to be able to do so and you made a huge impact on those fellow human beings that day. It is so comforting to be able to embrace our faith and share the power of prayers with others. you knew why that child was released from the hospital, didn't you? Prayer works. We do not always get the answer we want but many times we do...those without prayer in their lives miss the wonderful connections that it brings .

I am always glad when I visit, my Friend in Christ. ps

Dearest Mekenzie - I do so love to see you stopping by. Yes, God is amazing and wanted that office to hear that prayer and see the results that very same day!!! How awesome is He! I love that scripture you referenced, as it is perfect for this situation no doubt. God picks the most unlikely persons to use for His glory, as we know when we read His Word. Marlene - I am so glad you were touched by my story. There would have been no story, if the Lord did not give me that gentle push. Yes, LOL, I really did look around to see who pushed me! I am glad you shared your story with me, as I guess we all need a little prompting from the Holy Spirit at times. That same thing also happened to me at church one Sunday when they were having Women's Day or something, and I was to open with prayer, and I knew, just like you did, that the words coming out of my mouth were not mine, but the Holy Spirit's, as when I finished the whole congregation actually clapped, and my mouth just dropped open, as I still do not remember what I prayed. I guess the Lord wanted that congregation to hear whatever they heard that day no doubt! Ha. And then after the service in Sunday school, they kept saying what a blessing we all received today, and I didn't realize they were talking about my prayer until one man was praying and said it. I appreciate you always for reading and leaving awesome comments to glorify our King. God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Faith, whoa what an awesome testimony to God's nudges and obedience. It is amazing to be a tool in the Master's hand as you were in this situation. God is so amazing ... Obviously he was giving your coworkers an opportunity to see His works and miracles .. He is REAL!

I giggled at the nudge to move toward your coworker - I thought of the verse when Jesus says, I am a friend who sticks closer than a brother ... right beside you pushing you forward to trust Him with the results.

Thank you for sharing this amazing story. It is such an encouragement and a reminder to listen to the Holy Spirits promptings.

Voted Up, Awesome and Beautiful.

God Bless you sweet Faith!

Marlene Bertrand from USA on August 07, 2012:

All glory to God! My heart is really touched by your story. I got a kick out of the part about how you looked around to see who pushed you. Yeah, God works just like that. I remember the first time I was asked to pray out loud to open a church meeting. I was terrified. Talk about being pushed - I felt like I was thrown over a cliff. I worried about saying the right thing. But, stepping out in faith, I opened my mouth and the words that came out were not my own. Afterwards, people were sobbing and saying how beautiful the prayer was and I can't tell you to this day what I said. The words were from the Lord. Each person heard a different message. I was just a vessel, the same as you were the Lord's vessel through which He used to bless a whole office of people.

I do understand this Faith and not only have I been pushed, I have been shoved. I left my state thinking God wanted me to be a part of a friends new church but what God wanted was for me and my family to break this friend away from this church because he was becoming a Jim Jones and allowed no one in the church to listen to anyone's preaching or words (even to read!). They were having their doubts but when this Pastor's best friends said, "Hold on!" they realized they had been backed in a corner and were being very stupid. He had bled them almost dry but they didn't lose their souls! I have loved God used me for this and I love stories like yours. It is the kind of stories people need to hear. Sometimes we don't know just how God may use us.
