Angels Among Us: Close Encounters Of A Heavenly Kind

An Angel Encounter

Although I have had a few encounters with Angels, this one is etched in my memory. It brought me to a better understanding with not only myself but also with my Lord and Saviour. Yes Angels walk amongst us and they come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ethnicities I have seen it for myself and do realize they come to you when you need them the most.

I had just turned 25 years old and believed at that time in my life that I was ancient, a quarter of a Century seemed so depressing. I decided that on that chilly winter evening on January 3 I would pick up a bottle of wine from my local corner store and try to celebrate this very old number. I didn't want family or friends around and was trying to come to grips with the realization that it wasn't really that old. As I pulled up to the local corner store there was an old Indian man with Khaki clothing sitting near the front door. I stopped and asked him if he needed anything and explained that today was my birthday and that there wasn't any use in a celebration as I was feeling antique. He smiled at me and told me it was only the beginning of my life with what was to come and that God had a plan for me, he asked me why I was thinking about buying a bottle of wine when I should be rejoicing in my life. How odd I thought that this man knew that I was going to buy wine. How could he have known that? I continued inside the store and thought seriously about what he said. Deciding not to purchase the bottle of wine I stepped back outside to speak with him however he was gone. Walking around the building I could not find anyone or anybody stirring. I went back inside the store and asked the clerk about the Indian man who was sitting outside the door and he looked at me oddly, he explained that there wasn't any Indian man nor woman of any kind sitting outside the store, nor had he seen one and continued to explain that he had been working double shifts and only a handful of people came through the door. I thanked him for his time and found my way to my car, as I placed the key into the ignition I was a little confused by what had just happened not realizing that I just encountered an angel. As I backed out of the parking lot and proceeded home I kept asking myself how this man knew what I was going to purchase as I gave no indication of what my intentions were when I pulled up to the store. As I stepped out of my 1990 Pontiac Firebird that I had just purchased for myself, I then realized that he was not human he was in fact an Angel sent to me by God and he had a message to give me. My heart leaped with Joy and instead of being depressed and saddened by the funny little number, I was rejoicing and giving thanks for being alive. I spent the rest of my birthday celebrating without alcohol with family and a handful of close friends.

Although 25 seemed like such a depressing number, it turned out to be the best time in my life as it enabled me to create milestones and embrace age in a different light, and as each year passes I find that God has blessed me more and more every day. I thank GOD to this day for that divine intervention as my special Angel gave me to me at that moment in my life understanding.

stephane86: I also agree that they contact us and we do have to keep an open eye when people ignore then they become fearful which is honestly not necessary, thank you for commenting.:)

stephane86 on April 22, 2010:

Your story is impressive. I have had my share of spiritual inspiration and manifestations too. I think it is mostly a matter of discernment, as natural causes can never really be dismissed. Nonetheless, I think, ninety percent of the time, the supernatural world contacts us through natural events and means. We just have to keep an open eye. Good post!

The Lost Dutchman, I believe in Angels and I believe they are real I am so gald that you enjoyed the article as it was definitely an occurrence and written from the heart. :)

Patrick Bernauw from Flanders (Belgium) on November 28, 2008:

That's a marvellous true story, "heartfelt" written... One of the greatest true stories about "angels" is that of "The Angels of Mons" (I have a Hub about them). At the very beginning of the First World War "angels" were seen on the side of the British near the Belgian town of Mons. I'm not sure what I have to believe or not, but that isn't the point. Maybe it's a myth, a legend, okay... but many, many veterans were sure they had seen them, and they gave them hope, and confidence, and comfort... And if you believe really hard, it's always true... maybe on a different level than our everyday life, but nevertheless... true! - Thank you for sharing!

Hi AEvans! Surprised I'm only now coming across you here on hubpages!

Thanks for sharing this awesome testimony...the books by Frank Peretti came to mind when you said "angels come in many ethnicities."  If you haven't read them, I think you'd enjoy/appreciate them. The first one is "This Present Darkness" (which I still have to read) and "Piercing the Darkness" which I finished a short time ago.

I feel a connection as my born again birthday is January 3 (1999).

Dear Storytellersrus, Thank you for sharing that story as it is amazing how God intervenes at the right time. I am glad I was able to remind you of what presence God has.

Barbara from Stepping past clutter on September 15, 2008:

Dear AE, This is a lovely story and I totally believe it.  My first encounter with angels was at camp in Minnesota.  A tornado was in the vicinity and my cabin of girls- I think we were about twelve years old- were huddled, terrified, in the bathroom stalls.  I raised my eyes and there on the wall of my stall was the Hand of God offering me hope.  When I pointed it out to the other girls, they all stopped crying and whispered, "It is the hand of God!" Thanks for reminding me of this story and of angel's intervening presence in our lives.
