I have been a fan of Edgar Cayce's work for most of my life, ever since my late father read out loud to my brothers, mother and I of his life and clairvoyant readings. Little did I know at age 9 that I would one day make a staggering discovery that would heal the rift between science and religion and help to corroborate Cayce's work.
Cayce had risked ridicule in order to help others. As a devout Christian, he felt compelled to be compassionate and to use his God-given gift to do good. Hundreds of people were healed of maladies that medical science had proved incapable of helping. But Cayce's readings were not purely about bodily health. Many of them concerned the spirit or soul—the "true self" or child of God, within. And many of his readings concerned the past lives of the people he was helping.
Many Christians, however, felt that reincarnation was blasphemous. When first he encountered reincarnation, he tended to agree with them. That was until he discovered reincarnation in the Bible. But Cayce was more interested in Truth than popularity. From that time on, he split with the traditionalists.
His wasn't the only split involved here. For nearly two centuries, science gradually had been moving away from religion. For some, there had been an irreconcilable divorce. Biblical literalists have aggravated this rift by claiming that Archbishop Ussher's timeline, or something close to it, is the real timeline of physical reality. That 1650 publication put Noah's Flood at 2348 BC, and the creation of humanity and the universe at 4004 BC.
A Timeline that Doesn't Work
Ussher also believed that the universe would end after 6000 years—a thousand years for every day in Genesis 1. But that didn't happen. The year 1997 came and went without a whimper. We're now at cosmic year 6016 by Ussher's reckoning.
But Ussher's timeline and that of every other literalist has been proven wrong on many different levels. Noah's Flood, for instance, could not have happened anywhere near 2348 BC, because there were too many people on Earth at that time and long afterwards. If the Flood ever did happen, Noah and his family were supposed to have been the only ones around on the entire planet.
But Ussher didn't know what we know now about Egypt and Sumer. Only later historians discovered these facts which are so damning to his timeline. Ussher was a great scholar, but he could only use information that was known during his lifetime.
Scholars in numerous branches of science have proven that the universe is far older than 6016 years. For instance, we have galaxies colliding millions of years ago. It has taken tens of millions of years for their "guts" to be strewn across intergalactic space. It seems unlikely that God would create the aftermath of collisions that never happened.
Anthropologists have found remains of Homo sapiens that are around 200,000 years old. This is the minimum age of humanity, according to science. They may yet discover other bones that are far older.
Discoveries that Changed Everything
Is there a way to heal the rift between science and religion?
While researching background material for a novel, in the early 2000s, I made several such discoveries that collapse the gap between those two fields of thought. I had come across two dates that Cayce had given for events in the Bible and later biblically confirmed those dates. I also found circumstantial, scientific evidence that backed them up.
Instead of 2348 BC for Noah's Flood, Cayce had given 28,000 BC. And instead of 4004 BC for Adam, Cayce had given 10½ million years ago for one of humanity's earliest meetings. Near the start of my research, I had dismissed the 10½ million figure as "impossible." I've since learned to be more humble.
But after a few weeks of research in the Bible's first few books, I made several breakthroughs which confirmed Cayce's two dates. The new biblical timeline pegs Noah's Flood at 27,970 BC and Adam at 10,434,130 BC. These new dates each proved to be a veritable bulls eye—each within 1% of Cayce's rounded approximations.
After such a startling breakthrough, I wanted to ensure that my approach did not involve any form of bias. The factors I had used thematically fit their use as factors to multiply by the ages of the early patriarchs. Also, I was comforted by the fact that the earliest patriarch, Adam, was described in Genesis 5:2 as a tribe, instead of an individual. That several tribes might each last thousands of years was thus not at all unrealistic.
One of the factors—the one which I used from Moses back to Adam—involved time: the length of a generation. The set of factors used from Noah back to Adam each involved cause and effect, especial that of adding "life" or "years."
When I compared the new biblical timeline with those of science, I made another shocking discovery. One species had disappeared right when the Flood had occurred and that species fits the description of the "daughters of men" mentioned in Genesis 6.
On top of these findings, I also discovered the Kabbalists' "Tree of Life" embedded in two chapters of Genesis. This proved that people (the Jewish mystics), who had long believed in reincarnation, also had a hand in writing the Bible's first book, Genesis.
A Book to Document the Research and the Discoveries Made
The book—The Bible's Hidden Wisdom: God's Reason for Noah's Flood, is now done and published. I trimmed down the original book to focus on Noah's Flood. But the additional material will become part of "The Bible's Hidden Wisdom" series of books.

Wonderful, Jay. And you keep spreading the word, too.
Part of the "acting accordingly" is to love others as is they were our selves, and to wish for them everything that they desire, even if it is to slap our faces (turn the other cheek).
Jay C OBrien from Houston, TX USA on October 19, 2014:
I liked your statement above. I echo, we are all connected because we were once one soul. The "fall" is about our separate "ego" selves. Decide to come together again as one.
Actually we are still part of one great soul. All we have to do is decide we are part of each other and act accordingly. Telepathy/ESP is proof. Spread the word. Thanks.
Rod Martin Jr (author) from Cebu, Philippines on October 18, 2014:
Beautifully put, Tom. What I'm currently learning from the "science of spirituality," Kabbalah, tells me that we are indeed all connected, because we were once one soul. We were shattered at the great "fall" and became separate "ego" selves. Now, we need to learn all the lessons of such separateness and to decide to come together again as one. This is the meaning of True Love.

It is heartening to see the way so many people are at last opening their minds to the possibility that Status Quo science does not have the answer to everything and that people are free to discover their own truths.
My experience shows me that we linked, if not to all other people, certainly to a great many, both living in this world and those that have departed from it.

Hi Lady G. I visited ARE in Virginia Beach in 1965 or 1966. My Dad spent about a half an hour talking to Hugh Cayce. I wish I could've listened in.

Hi Nell. Thanks for your kind words.
I take it you're talking about the video on Barbro Karlen and the reincarnation of Anne Frank. I'd love to read your article when you're done.

Came back to say thanks for the link, I am going to write a hub about her, I will put a link to your profile at the bottom for giving me the tip, thanks!
Debra Allen from West By God on July 29, 2014:
I have been to ARE in Virginia Beach! Excellent place for studies about us and our ancestry from within. Time keeps changing in respects to how old we are and of this earth. Most religions will also make it like this earth and the continents here have always been like this...and that is a totally wrong assumption.
Nell Rose from England on July 29, 2014:
Hiya, yep it all makes sense to me. I remember reading Edgar Cayce many years ago and found him fascinating. As for people who believe the earth is only approx 4 to 6 thousand years old, well, no comment! lol! nice one, and the book looks fascinating, nell

Thank you, Rodric29. How is my lovely Phoenix? It's been 7 years since I was there. I feel "reincarnated" to the Philippines.
Bless you for your kind and illuminating words.

I loved this hub because when I read the part about Adam and his introduction to the earth 10 million felt good. Who knows how long he dwelt in Eden before he and Eve were sent away. Voted up.
Also, it is in our natures to be emphatic because of our spiritual heritage. We are literally the offspring of God in that He organized our spirits and causes them to go into bodies for birth on earth.
I am confident that reincarnation might exist, but not for humanity born to this earth or at least only a small fraction of humanity at that.

Jay C OBrien, a beautiful story. Thanks!
We definitely are spiritual beings with abilities that reach beyond our physical form.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Jo, for your kind words.
After about 60 years of spiritual study, I've come to realize that God has lots of surprises for us. Did God put a master clockwork in motion -- a mechanism that would have had built-in intelligence to grow and to adapt (evolution)? I certainly know God is smart enough to do such a thing. We each need to remain humble and hungry for His truth. Our own interpretations of scripture have proven time and again to fall short of the reality God created.
I got so busy writing the book between writing jobs that I forgot to update this Hub. I'm grateful you made your comment on it.

The reason I was first attracted to the Edgar Cayce material is that I had done the same thing (medical readings) in my teens.
MY TELEPATHIC EXPERIENCES
When I was a teenager Jim, my stepfather came into the living room and told me about a reoccurring pain I had been having. The pain went down my left arm to the wrist. I would respond by taking my right hand and grasping my left wrist for a few seconds. No one had seen me do this and I had never told anyone about it. Jim described the pain and what I did about it perfectly. I was so shocked I denied it and Jim walked away.
Also as a teenager I had an experience with my best friend, David. I had a feeling that a rope came out from my midsection and was attached to David. I felt a tugging and then felt his mind. I do not remember what he was thinking, but I was aware of a great connection.
Also as a teenager I was discussing telepathy with a neighbor. She asked me whether I could do it and I said yes. She asked me to do it and I sat down to meditate. I saw a cloud on her midsection and I thought of the fallopian tube. She then confirmed that her doctor had told her she could not have children because of a withered fallopian tube.
I also did two medical readings under controlled conditions under the Silva group. A woman sat facing me with index cards filled out with the condition of the patients. Twice I described the persons’ medical condition. The moderator then showed me the index cards. My descriptions matched what had been written on the cards.
The purpose of this testament is to add my experiences to others and to correct the false denial I gave Jim.
I have a Hub "My Telepathic Experiences" to collect the verified experiences of others.

When I watch those science shows about the big bang theory, it kind of irritates me. I don't like the word *evolution* either. We are all created but as far as evolution goes. It to me means that we need to *evolve* into God's perfect plan for us and what our individual destiny is.
I am looking for the signs that go along with the last days. I would suspect that before science and faith were to agree, we all will be living on a new earth. :-) Great reading! My husband was just looking for material on Edgar Cayce. I will send the word out about your book too. Shared & Up :-)

Well said, Jay. I remember reading about this after I bought the Readings database from the ARE Foundation.
I understand that the direction of Nile flow is more objective in a physical reality kind of way. But finding artifacts embedded in Genesis and a timeline that is a bulls-eye with Cayce's dates is far from subjective.
Jay C OBrien from Houston, TX USA on March 28, 2014:
Here is a more objective proof.
At least 20 years before science was aware of it, Edgar Cayce stated the Sahara Desert had been green with rivers and the Nile flowed east/west and emptied into the Atlantic Ocean. Oil companies proved these statements true. Cayce referred to Jesus and his teachings repeatedly. Thus Cayce adopted the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Cayce proved Jesus and Jesus proved God. This chain of reasoning is needed because many people today cannot believe in the resurrection, but they can believe the geology of an oil company.
The following readings were recorded and prove that Edgar Cayce made the statements prior to the oil company discoveries. Edgar Cayce gave the following readings in the 1930’s. It was not until after WW II (1945 or later) that oil companies began their exploration in the Sahara.
“The Nile entered into the Atlantic Ocean. What is now the Sahara was an inhabited land and very fertile….” 364-13 (November 17, 1932)
“The man’s indwelling was then in the Sahara and the upper Nile regions, the waters then entering the now Atlantic from the Nile region rather than flowing northward….” 5748-1 (July 1932)
“More fertile than even in the present with the overflow as occurs, for only about a third of the present Sahara was there, though it was sandy loam with silt –in the use of the agriculture portions.” 275-38 January 16, 1934)
“…, when the Nile (or Nole, then) emptied into what is now the Atlantic Ocean, on the Congo end of the country. What is now the Sahara was a fertile land, a city that was builded in the edge of the land ….” 5748-6 (July 1, 1932)
Oil companies do not advertise their findings until the knowledge is no longer secret. It took many years for the oil company information about the Sahara to become public domain. Cayce knew something that no one else on earth knew at the time. Cayce repeatedly referred to the teachings of Jesus. Cayce accepted Jesus and Jesus proved the existence of an afterlife by the resurrection.

Thanks for stopping by, Mathew James.
There are many references to choose from. Here are 3:

Two decades ago, my book reference said 50,000 years, so anthropologists keep finding older and older bones. Will they find far older? Do older bones still exist to be found? We may never know that. It's a big planet to dig up.
Mathew James on April 15, 2013:
"Anthropologists have found remains of Homo sapiens that are around 200,000 years old."
Can you provide the reference where this info comes from.
