Do Jinns Exist?
What is a Jinn? Do Jinns exist? These are some questions that some of you will be asking yourselves.This is a fascinating subject where we look into the existence of the Jinn who live with and around human beings on Earth.
This article is what you need to know more on Jinns and like anything, it is not exhaustive.
Not many people know about the Jinn and their existence with humans on Earth. Jinns live in parallel to humans on Earth but are invisible to us.
Did you know that Jinns live with us in our homes? Jinns are also known as Ghosts, Demons, Evil Spirits, Poltergeist etc. They are the beings that try to scare us by doing different things like poltergeist and sending a chill down the spine.
Did you also know that Iblis Satan who disobeyed Allah is a Jinn and not an Angel? Iblis Shaytaan was the only Jinn in heaven before he got put down from paradise. The rest were only angels who are made of light, whereas Iblis is made of smokeless fire.
What is a Jinn and How Do They Live?
Allah (God) made Jinns from smokeless fire or 'scorching fire', angels are made of light and humankind are made of clay. It is beyond human comprehension to understand these types of 'fire', 'light' and 'clay' so we will not be delving into it at this time.
Like human beings, the jinn can also be good, evil, or neutral. The Jinn have been given free will by Allah like Human beings and they make their own choices on everything like choosing their own religion, their own way of life. This is why there are Jinns who are good and evil and carry out good or evil deeds unto Humans and unto themselves on Earth.
The Jinn are frequently mentioned in the Glorious Quran, especially in Surah 72 (named Sūrat al-Jinn) is named after the jinn, and has a whole chapter about them. In another surah (Sūrat al-Nās) jinns are mentioned in the last verse. The Qur'an also mentions and makes it very clear that Muhammad (peace be upon Him) was sent as a prophet to both humanity and the jinn, and that all prophets and messengers were sent to both communities.
Jinns live within their own communities, hills trees, in human houses, seas and in the air. Like Humans, Jinns will be judged on the Day of Judgement by Allah and will be sent to Paradise or Hell according to their deeds.
Jinns live their lives very similarly to Human beings where they have families, communities, their own laws, weddings and mourning rituals. From this, we can understand that they are very similar to Human beings in the way they live their lives and go about their day to day business.
All Muslims believe in the existence of Jinns because it is revealed in the Glorious Quran and also mentioned in Hadeeths from the experiences of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
It is fascinating to learn about the Jinn, because we cannot see them and their existence is beyond human comprehension, like the Soul, but we know they exist when we witness things like Poltergeist, visions of Ghosts, Spiritual Posession of the Human Soul etc. These are all caused by Jinns.
What Are The 3 Types of Jinn
There are 3 types of Jinn;
- One type of Jinn flies through the air as they have wings and live in the air
- Another type resembles snakes and black dogs because they can take whatever living form they like, except plants
- The third is based in one place but also travels about openly
The 3 types of Jinn in a little bit more detail are as follows:
1 Amir: (resident Jinn) mean that they are one of those who live with people in their homes, especially in unclean places like the toilet.
2 Shaytan: also called a Jinni, is malicious and has become wicked and whispers bad actions into the ears of humans so as to make them do evil things and follow their orders to commit sin.
3 Ifrit: is a Jinni who is stronger and more powerful than a Shaytan, who may be the leader of less powerful Jinns who are given different tasks to make humans go astray.
(Please note: Muslims believe that Satan is against the Muslim religion and his main priority is to take as many human beings and Muslims to hell as possible. Every single second Satan is trying to make people go astray against the will of Allah (God).
In the following verse, the Qur'an rejects and forbids the worship of Jinn and stresses that only Allah should be worshipped:
"Yet they make the jinn equals with Allah, though Allah created the jinn; and they falsely, having no knowledge, attribute to Him sons and daughters. Praise and glory be to Him! (for He is) above what they attribute to Him!" (Qur'an 6:100)
Jinns can take many different forms, shapes and sizes to destroy or mislead Human beings.
Attack of The Jinn - My Experience
- Islamic Stories - Attack Of The Jinn
This is a true short story about my experience of getting attacked by a jinn. I nearly got killed by a jinn in my sleep. You may call it sleep paralysis, but i believe otherwise! Do Jinns exist? YES!
How Do Jinns Live?
“I created jinn and mankind only that they may worship me.”
(Quran: Al Zariyat:56)
Jinns are invisible to the Human eye, but they can see Humans.
All Jinns eat and drink like humans, and have rules and regulations similar to the Muslim way of life. Just as we humans eat meat of animals slaughtered in the name of Allah which makes it Halal, so do the Muslim believers among the Jinn. In addition, the Jinn are allowed to eat the bones of animals slaughtered for human consumption in the name of Allah. Jinns animals feed on other animal dung.
Jinns consist of male and female who have children and lead family life. Some Jinns worship Allah and some don't. Some Jinns are evil towards humans and try to harm and aggravate them and whisper evil thoughts to take part in evil actions. They have careers, social lives, enjoyment, travel etc.
Jinns can possess human beings, because they are able to easily go in and out of the human body, down to the smallest vein.
We all have Jinns and Angels attached to us. Angels are on our right and left shoulder continuously writing about our good deeds and bad deeds and every action we take with our body parts and every single words we utter. The Jinn, on the other hand, is always trying to incite a human towards evil and to do everything against the Islamic religion.
Hadith: Sahih al Bukhari and Muslim on Jinns
A hadith on the authority of Ibn Masud the Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
"There is not any one of you except that he has been assigned his companion from among the Jinn and his companion from among the Angels. Then the Companions said, 'Even you, O Messenger of Allah,' He replied 'Even me, except that Allah has protected me against the Jinn, so that I am unharmed, and so he orders me to do nothing but good'."
We understand from this hadeeth that we all have Jinns attached to us. This Jinn harms us in any way it can, not physically, but mentally and spiritually. When you get evil thoughts or think of an evil action you want to take part in, it is the Jinn that is inciting it to you and pushing you to go and accomplish the evil actions or act upon the evil thoughts.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had full protection from the Jinn by the permission of Allah, and so he was only ordered to do nothing else apart from only good actions.
Ho to Protect Yourself From The Jinn
As mentioned above, human beings are superior to Jinns and as such can eliminate contact and any harm caused by them, if we adopt and follow the ways taught to us by our Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
- Try not to stay ‘impure’ (in the state of impurity) for a prolonged period.
- Perform salaah five times a day;
- Always say the athkar (Bismillah) before you take any action, for example, before sleeping, eating, drinking, sitting, standing, going into the toilet, before driving etc;
- Constant rememberance of Allah through dhikr (the heart of a person who does dhikr is alive, and the heart of a person not doing dhikr is not alive);
- If you know or feel you have been confronted by a Jinn, then recite Auzuu billah hi minash shaytan nirrajim, bismillah hirrahma nirrahim ......; Lahawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliuwul azim..... and the last two chapters of Qur'aan, Qul auzu birrabin nas and Qul auzu birabil falaq, or the best verse to recite is Ayat Al Qursi (Allahu La Ilaha Illahu)
- Before you go to sleep, read all the Qul surahs and blow into your hands and touch your whole body from head to toe;
- Recite a few verses of the Surah Baqara daily as shaytaan does not have the power and ability to enter a house or room where this surah has been recited. This surah is very powerful against Jinns and their evil harmful whispers.

More Sahih Hadeeths on Jinns
Hazrat Thanwi rahmatullahi alaihe narrated that:-
“In a city called Kufa, in Iraq, a businessman arrived searching for a rented accommodation. He had no choice but to accept a flat which was said to be haunted. Because he was so tired, he did not care. When he was getting into bed a huge black jinn came in front of him. He immediately started to recite the ‘Ayatul Kursi’. The jinn followed reciting the ayat with him, but when he came to the verse, ‘Wala ya’uduhu hifzuhuma’ (‘And their ( the sky and the earth) safeguarding does not burden him’) the Jinn could not follow and stopped. The businessman understood the consequences and so repeated and repeated the ayat until the Jinn disappeared. When the businessman woke up in the morning, he saw the ashes of the Jinn where it burnt. The Jinn was burnt by the power of Allah.”
"Say (O' Muhammed): It has been revealed to me that a group of Jinn listened and said; 'Indeed we have heard the marvellous Qur'an. It guides unto righteousness so we have believed in it, and we will never make partners with our lord'"
(Surah Al-Jinn 72:1-2)
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) narrated: "Indeed, the shaytan flees from the house in which the Surah Al-Baqarah (the 2nd chapter of the Glorious Qur'an) is recited"
(It is recommended to read Surah Al-Baqarah at home at least once a day for protection against the Jinn and their evil)
"And We have guarded it (the heavens) from every accursed devil, except one who is able to snatch a hearing then he is pursued by a brightly burning flame"
(Surah Al-Hijr 15:18) (Hence the shooting stars in the sky!!!)
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) also said: "They (the Jinn) would pass the information back down to Earth until it reaches the lips of a magician or fortune-teller. Sometimes a meteor would overtake them before they could pass it on. If they passed it on before being struck, they would add to it a hundred lies". It is clear from this as to how fortune-tellers get predictions of the future sometimes right, but majority get it wrong also.
Prophet (saws) said: "The prayer of one who approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything regarding the past, present and future, will not be accepted for forty days and forty nights" and: "Whosoever approaches a fortune-teller and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammed (pbuh)"

Will: I get it..you want an experience of a spiritual nature. Asking for a Jinn to come is asking for that kind of experience. I was once naive and innocent like you and wanted to play with supernatural forces because I did not think it would really hurt me and I thought it would be exciting. I was told about a house that had a spirit in it and those people couldn't get rid of it so I thought I could help and pray for the house but the thing that lived in the house followed me home and wreaked havoc on my life. Its kind of like thinking it would be fun to fly without knowing about gravity. I wanted to know if it was real for myself. A dark spirit is a heavy energy and easier to feel at first than a more a subtle being that has a higher vibration like an angel. Learning about dark energy could be a training ground to learn about energy because it is easier to identify but I seriously I caution you from playing with dark things you don't understand. Its all fun and games until something like this won't let you sleep for 2 years straight except an hour at a time here or there. I wanted to play with these things. I thought I would be able to control such a thing. How stupid that was! I attracted the attention of a creature like these kids talk about and it ruined my first marriage because I was having nightmares almost every night, it didn't let me sleep for almost 2 years which made me sick sometimes, very exhausted, afraid all the time, and anxious too. It was very difficult because my family didn't really take my problem seriously at first. Once I got help to remove it from my nightmares it jumped to my family and It influenced the suicide of 3 people in my family, it has attacked one of my Bosses, attacked men I was dating (after my husband was killed) and led to my husband being murdered. Mr. Ahmed is a nice person and is trying to reassure people telling them the Jinn can't really hurt you but that's not true. There was a lot of fall out from this thing I can't even begin to explain in this forum. My life is forever altered and horribly altered by events from what they call Jinn attacks. I am not a Muslim; Much respect to all people. My Mother is Native American and my Dad's family is from Spain. Reading these kinds of web sites I have learned so many people experience this problem that it is shocking. The science found on the issue does not come close to managing the problem and provides no answers for stopping it. I tried everything out there to make it stop. I have talked to medicine men from different tribes, catholic priests, many different energy workers, burned sage, meditation, sweat lodge, cleansing diets, fasting, prayer with psalms, worked with a Buddhist priest, kept drum music on at night, drank and washed with holy water many times, tried everything I could find. I finally for a man in Thailand who was able to keep it from directly messing with me but it didn't leave. It moved on to people around me. Help for this problem is NOT readily available. I can tell you it is the most terrifying experience you would live through in the flesh. Not movie scary. Like falling 10,000 feet scary. You can not control what will happen and you can not know how bad it can get until it does. You want a spiritual experience which is definitely life changing but this is not the direction you want to go. These things are real. Its not like the Disney cartoon Aladdin where the Genie grants wishes and talks like Robin Williams all safe and funny. It would be safer to find a really good Chi Kung Teacher from China who can teach you to feel and move the life force in your body known as Chi. Learning about Reiki would also give you a personal experience of working with energy in a healthy and healing way. You can also read a book called "The Way of the Shaman" by Michael Harner which can teach you about finding answers for yourself in through the native american spiritual tradition. A spiritual experience will give you faith in the spiritual because nothing is like seeing or experiencing something for yourself. It is a higher life style to seek higher more loving energies like nature spirits, angels and most especially cultivating a personal relationship with your understanding of God in what ever name you call that. God is love and love alone is real. Love survives death and is the only thing that has true meaning in life. Seek a life well lived with love as your focus and you will find the spiritual experience you desire without all the fear and tears this path you are playing with can bring. You will not enjoy meeting a real Jinn and it will not be over when you want it to be over. In the Native community we have other names for these things which I will not discuss here. We know about these things Muslims call Jinn. They influence people to have unnatural desires and cravings, increase drug cravings, cause depression, fear, anxiety, and can make people physically and mentally sick. This is like asking cancer to come and hang out. May God bless you and keep you far away from such a thing. I am lucky to have survived it thus far.

Well done, Gous..! Still, you need to discuss also another kind of Jinn, stated also in Al-Qur'anul Kariem, it is qarin, a kind of Jinn which is given by Allah to every single human; which follow them wherever they go ...! I have also have written a hub on this but maybe in different point of view. Check this hub out: https://discover.hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/...

I'm not Muslim, but I do believe in your Jinns. I know all about the lower spirits that live with humans. I have a poltergeist jinn, as you call it, that sends my things off into another dimension. I can usually call them back because I am a Starseed.
Gous Ahmed (author) from Muslim Nation on May 11, 2015:
Most of the time it may be because humans disturbed their peace, for some fun and other times it may be because some Jinns love a human being.
Most of the comments highlight some of the effects and reasons of why they possess them.

Here's an advice that you have probably heard a lot before.
DO NOT FEAR THE JINN. DO NOT BE SCARED. Jinns scare the humans who are scared of them. Ignore them, forget about them. If you cannot forget about them then it'll be hard for you to live.
Even though the terms are in Muslim language (arabic) they have translations and are understandable. Don't worry about the Jinn, they are harmless.

I would like to thank you brother, for sharing this article. I have been instructed by my teacher, to look into the jinn. As a new Muslim, I have found it difficult to understand. This article has summed up the information, so that it is possible to understand. Thank you.

By what you have written it seems to me that you have decieved yourself and are very confused. You started by wanting to ask a question but then went blabbering on about something that you do not know or want to understand. Where are the questions?
Mohammed (peace be upon Him) was not called Allah. Allah is all the 99 names he has. He has the power to do all things and some are things that we humans cannot comprehend.
Satan is a Jinn but then there are good Jinns and bad evil Jinns. I don't think you actually read the article and have jumped to conclusions. Like i always say to all hypocrites and liars that you will know the answer when you your time comes. Wait for that day.
