A dialogue with a kid

Kids often turn out to be representatives of God on earth because they are innocent... and innocence is beautiful.

Kids often turn out to be representatives of God on earth because they are innocent... and innocence is beautiful.

A visit to the Sri Sathya Sai Primary School

On the 27th of September, 2011, I visited the Sri Sathya Sai Primary school because one of my colleagues told me something amazing that his son, who was in the 4th class, had told him. What was that shall unfold in this piece, but it was compelling enough to make me drive down to the Primary school with my colleague.

We entered the premises and my colleague requested to meet his son. The practise for the Annual Sport and Cultural Meet that takes place on 11th January was on and all the kids were headed to the ground. The Sports Meet is a time when the love and grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is visibly seen. I remember with horripilation the Sports Meet of 1999, when Swami literally bled to see the children smile. I must say that the children too, on their part, do everything to bring a smile on Swami's face. Thus, the Sports Meet time is a time of energetic hustle and bustle. Everyone is running about, completely involved in his/her respective event. It was in this melee of kids that my colleague's son, K, was located. K came up to us and he was happy seeing me. I made him sit next to me and simply started.

Me: Tell me, what happened last Friday.
K : Swami came to hostel. ( 'Swami here' refers to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba)
Me: No! Tell me properly. What happened?
K : It was middle of night. There was no light. (There have been a lot of power cuts of late, as part of the strikes that people are doing in support of a certain KCR who is demanding for a separate state of Telangana to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh.) So I got scared. I wanted to go to toilet. Then Swami came.
Me: How did He come? ( It felt terrible interrogating the child, but I was really intrigued)
K : Just like that. He was there and He was wearing a white robe. He held my hand.
Me: Which hand?
K : This hand( shows me his right hand). That time some yellow bumps also came on my hand. They vanished the next day. ( He made me touch those places on his palm where the ‘yellow bumps’ had appeared. The bumps were gone but the skin still seemed thick there, like how one gets due to constant rubbing on a hard surface.)
Me: Were the bumps painful? What were they?
K : I don’t know. They are not paining. Then He was singing, “Why fear when I am here.”
Me: Do you know that song?
K : Only little. But He sang the whole song. He held my hand and we walked towards the bathroom. When we were crossing the pantry, the light came on and He went away.
Me : How did He go away?
K : Like a flash. Very fast.
Me: Hey K! You know Swami has taken Mahasamadhi. What did you feel when you saw Him like that in front of you?
K : I was surprised first. But I was scared and I wanted to go to toilet. So I felt happy. Now I am not surprised.
Me: Why?
K : Because Swami comes almost everyday...
Me: Everyday?! Did He come yesterday?
K : Yes. R had an injury on His knees. Swami came at night and patted him on his head and put him to sleep.
Me: Did R also see Swami?
K : Yes.

An idol of Tirupati Balaji or Venkateshwara which shows him pointing to His feet with the right hand - a directive for every devotee to follow.

An idol of Tirupati Balaji or Venkateshwara which shows him pointing to His feet with the right hand - a directive for every devotee to follow.

Me: So, only you and R see Swami everyday?
K : No. On Sunday, we were all sitting in the class at night. Again the power went out. So the teacher went out to see. There was only one light - in the altar, there was a lamp. Because we were scared, Swami came and stood in the class. He was there till the teacher came.
Me: Who saw Him?
K : Whole class.
Me: Did you tell the teachers and headmiss aunty?
K : Yes.
Me: And what did they say?
K : They said, “Very beautiful”
Me: How was Swami standing?
( K got up and showed me. Swami was blessing with His right hand and His left hand was pointing to His feet. This was exactly the pose of Sri Venkateswara, the Lord at Tirupati. )

Then K just ran away to join his friends with the practise. I felt great joy in my heart. I remembered what Jesus said,

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Here was the Lord coming to the children!

I was reminded of some of the dreams I had in the past few days. In them, Swami had told me how much the little children from the Primary School make Him happy. Even after those dreams, I am thrilled at this little boy’s narrative. These children must have made Him really happy!!

The magnificence of innocence

This is not the first case nor will it be the last one when a child has 'seen' and 'spoken to' Swami in the physical even after the so-called Mahasamadhi. Very often, our reaction to such a claim by the kid is to doubt its honesty and question its state of mind. We forget that, unlike us adults, the child has nothing to gain or lose by what it says. It speaks only what it sees and experiences - nothing more; nothing less. The Bible proclaims,

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

I feel that instead of responding with skepticism and disbelief, something which will only silence the kid from expressing and not from experiencing, we should respond with a positive envy. An envy that drives us to develop innocence and purity of a child. Doesn't Swami emphasize often, "Purity leads to Divinity"?

May our hearts too develop the love of a child towards Swami and may our eyes see Him like a child's eye.

wonderful......!! A similar thing haapened with me also. Few months back I along with my daughter( she is 6 years old) were doing bhajan in our puja room, when all of a sudden she started shouting...."Ma...swami is here sitting on the table and shaking his legs..".. and she kept looking there till the bhajan was over. I really had goosebumps. felt so nice. Swami always says "where ever my glory is sung. I am there. Sairam

It is interesting to know that Swami keeps playing with children...The children are immensely blessed. We could only wish that we were one among those children in the school to have had dharshan of Swami!

When my son kept saying few such incidences of swami coming to him (I was doubting if it was a dream) I was interviewing him just like the act of mine was reproached by my husband I kept asking him gently on some minute details. He was explaining everything so naturally and I was awestruck!

Wonderful experience. One thing is sure that SWAMI is watching his children and bless them to become good citizens

Thank you. Many people have enjoyed this, in fact all those who miss Bhagawan...Referring to what Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said to Sri Sarada Ma, He said, "I have just gone to the next room. Why do you worry?" Did not Lord Jesus say,"In My Father's House (Universe) are many mansions." Our Father has gone away on a Tour without taking us with Him!

Gopal on October 03, 2011:

you have shared a very heart warming hub. This is just a tip of an iceberg. There have been, is and will be many miracles we will a witness to in course of time. Yes arvind we know very well how Swami loves His children especially Primary tiny tots. Especially those conversations with these tiny tots such as 'brothers and sisters', blowing air in to plastic covers and breaking it etc. If you remember those you can share those too which will be interesting and make all os us happy.

Thanks - may God bless us all.

Dear Niranjan, thanks for sharing the wonderful experience. It made me feel very happy.greatmasters like Swami never abandon their devotees even when they leave their bodies.I was reminded of another incident which happened after Shri Ramakrishna paramhamsa attained mahasamadhi. As per Hindu customs his wife Sri Sharada Devi was to follow the custom of removing her ornaments which was a strong custom in her time.instantly Sri Ramakrishna appeared in a vision and asked her "what are you doing? do you really think that I am dead and you have become a widow? stop that and carry on with my mission. You have to look after my children". He was referring to all his disciples amongst whom many were teenage boys who left their their parent at that tender age. These are ways of the great ones.So devotees should never feel sorrowful at the passing away of our dear Swami.I very much feel that he is taking care of each one of his devotees more actively than before. This is my personal experience.

Though we as Sai devotees keep telling the world about tonnes of His miracles, for every new miracle we are dumbstruck as though listening for the first time. Recounting and Relating His Mahima is only Live Bhagavatham. We should learn to remain submerged in it all the time if we have to escape from the miseries of this wretched world outside. Whoever posted this and interviewed the child - all are blessed .That include all those who are blessed to read this amazing Leela. Tearful Thanks to all. Humble Pranaams . A very beautiful article. When my wife and I worked as teachers at the Sathya Sai School in Thailand the children often spoke of Swami's appearances so much so that it was taken as normal. I think you would like the book The Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard. I wrote a hub about it. Thank you.

Denialisustice on September 29, 2011:

Careful...this way he lures you back into his maya again. He is not the form..not even in dreams, not even if he appears to you like that in darkness. The sai baba you should seek is not the one in orange robes or white robes. The sai baba you should seek wants you to know that he cannot be what you think he had to be! Give up now!..stop seeking the form! When you stop seeking, stop believing...that is when you see him as he is, which is YOU!

Sai Jahnavi on September 29, 2011:

Sai Ram Aravind,

Thank you for sharing the beautiful experience. This strengthens our belief that Swami will come to you the way you can 'see' him. Just like we say Swami is what you want Him to Be.

Jai Sai Ram.

It is beautiful..... Actually I am not amazed nor surprised!!.....I am just drowning in His Love..... for us elders, going to the bathroom is such a mundane thing that we dont realise how it effects kids and that too in a hostel..... He loves them so much that He makes sure even their small fears and worries are gone!!!....

This proves that He has not gone anywhere.... He is just a prayer away!!

I'm not too sure what the emoticon for smiling with a tad bit of tears is...but that's what I look like right now! It's incredible, that by just READING something, it can bring a wave of devotion flowing from the heart...

There is a reason why that kid was meant to meet you, and a reason why you have shared it in your writings, Anna. Whatever that reason may be, I am sure it will mean different things to different people.

Regardless of that - we know, Swami never left :) What is there to leave, when inevitably, He resides in every atom of our bodies :D

Sairam big bro. Have a fantastic day!
