Coincidences - Are Coincidences random anomalies or is there something Supernatural going on?

Strange Dates

What are Coincidences? Also called Synchronicity. In layman's terms, a coincidence is a random act culminating in another very similar situation. For example. John buys a red car. His brother who lives two hundred miles away and never keeps in touch, also buys a red car on the same day. is that Coincidence? Or is that Telepathy? I feel in this case it is Telepathy. I do believe in Telepathy. Mainly because it has happened to me on a number of occasions. Oh, don't get me wrong, I can't see what's in peoples wallets! Or read their pin number, unfortunately! but I do get a feeling when I know someone is coming to visit who I haven't seen for a while. To explain Telepathy, I think you have to realise and understand that the synapses in your brain are constantly sparking electricity, and as all atoms and electrons all work on the same principle only on a very much smaller level, without going into quantum physics, we can probably pick up our friends or families brain waves. But this is not about Telepathy.

This is purely about Coincidence. And not just any old coincidence. I will try to keep it away from being what I like to call human error, or subconscious 'remembering'. let me explain.

If a coincidence is human error or subconcious remembering, it would go something like this.

Jane gets married on the 20th June, and after the wedding states 'Wow, that was the day that my mum got married'. Human coincidence, based on subconscious memories. Therefore the act was set in motion by her mind.

The Coincidences that I want to talk about are the random out of the blue kind. The ones that don't involve subconscious memories.

Do Numbers Have A Psychic Meaning?

In my family, just like in yours, there are certain dates of the calender month that stick out in your mind for a reason. For example, birthday's, Christmas, your wedding day and so on. But what if certain dates stand out? What is it about those particular days and dates that make them special, albeit in a horrible way? Or maybe in a fantastic way? for example, a baby is born on her mother's birthday. Now you could call that a subconscious thing, but it is not very accurate to be able to have your baby on your birthday!

These are just a few dates in my life that seem to keep jumping out at me.

1. 18th June. My birthday. And also the day that one of my friends died a few years ago.

2. 18th November. The day that I got married. Also the day that my divorce was finalised!

3. 9th December. My father in law was born. My father in law died. My friend was buried. If you were wondering if it was the same father in law? well, it certainly was! He died on his birthday! And then of course my friend who recently died was buried on this same day.

So, you see that a specific date or maybe just the numbers can sometimes be Coincidental or maybe more. I remember hating the number 11. Now this sounds crazy but for some reason for at least four years I hated that number. I would never put it on a lotto ticket. And I wouldn't use it for anything else.

Then my Aunt died on the 11th June. Did I know somehow? We were very close, maybe I picked up on that number. Who knows. Very strange.

Day To Day Coincidences

I had never ever been to court before. And luckily it wasn't me that was in trouble this time! lol I went with my ex over a stupid case of misidentity. Well, we'll call it that. It was more the fact that he couldn't stop picking up the shiny shiny on the floor! Evidently he found a watch in the middle of the road and decided that as it looked lovey and shiny and lost he would take it home with him. Somebody grassed and there was a knock at the door! But that wasn't the trouble, the trouble was someone else said it was theirs but couldn't prove it. But I digress. The point of this story was this was the first time that I had stepped over the threshold into the dark and murky world of Courts. And this was when my coincidence happened. Whilst waiting for Jake to move his backside out of the lawyers room. I heard laughter. And I suddenly looked up to be confronted with my best friend walking through the door! Her son had been doing the naughties and she was there with him! She had never been to court either. Same day. Same time! How about that?

Strange but True Coincidences

But of course these are just small coincidences. Or are they? There are so many Coincidences documented out there. Here are just a few.

Mark Twain was born on the day that Haileys Comet appeared in 1835. He died on the day in 1910 when Haileys Comet made it's next appearance!

An American novelist by the name of Anne Parrish was browsing in a bookstore in Paris France, when she came across a book that she loved from childhood. Turning to her husband she told him how much she loved the book. Her husband took it from her and flicked through it. When he exclaimed out loud, she asked him what was wrong. He handed her the book, and on the flyleaf there was the name Anne Parrish 209 N. Weber Street Colorado Springs. It was Anne's book!

In 2002 seventy year old twin brothers were both killed within a few hours in separate accidents on the same road in northern Finland. The first of the twins was hit by a lorry whilst riding his bike, and the second was in a car accident, according to some sources. Police officer Marja Leena Huhtala told Reuters news 'It made my hair stand on end when I heard that they were brothers'.

A British woman finds her ring. The ladies Diamond ring was found two years after flushing it down a toilet! Joan Spiers accidentally flushed her ring down the toilet by mistake. She hired a waste disposal firm to sift through all the 'rubbish'. Unfortunately for her they couldn't find it. She was devastated. It was an antique gold ring set with diamonds and she loved it. But coincidence showed it's strange hand and two years later, an employee from the same firm came across the ring at a sewage works! He cleaned the ring off, and after remembering the story, returned it to it's rightful owner!

Stephen (Left) and Tommy

Man finds neighbour is his long lost Brother!

Two Canadian men who had been given up for adoption at a very early age, were both searching for their biological family. What they didn't realise was that all they had to do was walk across the road! When Tommy Larkin went to talk to the adoption agency, who had been dealing with his search, he was asked, 'Are you sure you haven't met him?' When he asked why, the lady gave Tommy his brother's address. Tommy replied: 'I am looking at the house right now!' It was just across the road from where he lived! Mr larkin 30, and his brother Stephen Goosney, 29 had been searching for each other for years. They had been neighbours for over seven months! Mr Goosney stated that it had been pretty overwhelming, and they had been seeing each other now, most days. 'Just hanging out, and trying to catch up' He quoted. They are now both trying to find the rest of the family.

Coincidence? Check out these great books.

Coincidence Quotes

Coincidence is Gods way of staying anonymous! Albert Einstein.

Once is chance twice is coincidence and three times is Conspiracy.

So, what do you think? Coincidence? Or just plain random events.

I would like to leave you with this coincidence. It is a telephone conversation between me and my friend Karen, a few years ago.

Ring Ring

'Hi Nell, it's me, Karen'

'Oh hiya Karen, how are you?'

'Fine, how are you?'

'Great, what are you doing? I thought I was supposed to come over tomorrow?'

'Sorry Nell I got my day's muddled up! do you want to come over now?'

Okay Karen, that's a good idea, I will just get my coat, are you going to pick me up?'

'Yeah Nell, I will come and get you at the usual place'

'Okay, Karen, by the way, how is Sara?'

'Sara, your daughter, you idiot' (laugh)

'I don't have a daughter called Sara'

'Don't be silly Karen, I see her every time I come over'

'Who is this?' Karen asks

'Me Nell, who is that?'

'Answer me one question, where do you live Nell?'

'Same as always, Wycombe, why?'

'I think that you have got the wrong Karen, and I have got the wrong Nell'

'Oh, sounds like it, er....nice to talk to you, how funny is that?'

'Amazing, um, better go, take care.........

This story is totally true! So just remember, you may be talking to the wrong person! Coincidence? No, Don't think so!

HI Oztinato, that's fascinating about Lincoln thank you, and thanks for reading, nell

Andrew Petrou from Brisbane on May 31, 2015:

Mathematically a coincidence is where two lines intersect on a graph.

If we could depict synchronicity mathematically we often see MORE than two events intersecting making these events "tri-incidences" and "quad-incidences" therefore they are not coincidences in the colloquial term which implies meaningless accidents.

Let's take Lincoln's famous dream: he dreams of his 1. death, 2/3/4. more than once 5. before his actual death. Therefore more than two events have taken place making the phenomena of his premonition not mathematically (or colloquially) a mere coincidence.

Therefore it was NOT a coincidence that Lincoln was able to predict his own death.

Harry on November 23, 2012:

I stopped reading when you said "I can't see people's pin numbers"... why would you want to?

Nell Rose (author) from England on June 17, 2012:

Hi rick, sounds fascinating, there is also the psychological point too, maybe people think like each other at certain points especially if they have been friends over the years, thanks so much nell

rickzepeda on June 17, 2012:

I like this topic. This kind of goes with my "ancient number 9 code" hub where I discuss coincidence as well and how numbers are pumping out a hidden code that the ancients decoded. Coincidence is based on space time geometry at continuums crossing at certain angles. There is a probability distribution model that is hidden.

Nell, only the two babies (both boys) became best friends and remained so until they were into their twenties. ;D

Nell Rose (author) from England on April 22, 2012:

Hi, Jama, now that's a coincidence! lol! I bet they turned out to be great friends, I remember when I was in hospital pregnant, and a relative of my husband came in with his wife, they hadn't seen each other for years! thanks as always, nell

Joanna McKenna from Central Oklahoma on April 22, 2012:

Back in the days when women remained in hospital for around 10 days after giving birth (which sounds heavenly to me!), my mother had my brother on March 4th. Six days later, nurses wheeled in another new mom who turned out to Mother's "new" neighbor only 4 doors down the block, but whom Mother had never quite gotten around to meeting in the year since the woman and her husband moved into the neighborhood!

Nell Rose (author) from England on April 21, 2012:

Hi Jools, Wow! that's it exactly! isn't it strange? I know they say that coincidences are just a random thing, but sometimes it is much more than that, thanks for reading, nell

Jools Hogg from North-East UK on April 21, 2012:

Nell, what an interesting hub, thoroughly enjoyed it and the great comments afterwards.

When I was doing my degree and was waiting for the final years results, I really had the jitters about whether I had passed or failed. Then I was awoken by my dead grandmother's voice telling me loudly "Remember number 11"; I got my results and I had passed.

The following week I got my graduation ceremony date - 11th May, I think her message /my dream of her voice was something telepathic, number 11 was important afterall.

My birthday is the date my future husband moved into his new flat, it adds up to 7; My husbands birth date adds up to 7, our wedding anniversary date adds up to 7, we moved into our house on the 7th. When I was young two of my best friends had brothers with the same birthday as me. One of them, Gloria, revealed her date of birth was the day after mine. When I told my mam, she told me that she had been in the same room at the maternity hospital - I was born on the Saturday, my friend Gloria on the Sunday! What's the chances!

Nell Rose (author) from England on January 11, 2012:

Hi, Muldania, Oh my God! that must have been shocking, heartbreaking and just about gut wrenching! if that would have happened to me, I would have passed out! on a lighter note, I had a conversation with my friend on the phone for about half an hour after she had called me, and then we realised that I wasn't the Nell she wanted, and she wasn't the Karen I wanted to speak too, we were stunned! lol! so we just said, uh huh, okay, seeya then! and put the phone down!

Muldania on January 11, 2012:

I remember many years ago, a few days after my nan died, the telephone rang, and my dad answered it, to a woman on the other end who asked to speak to Beverley, which is my mom's name. Taking the phone, and asking who it was, the woman said "It's your mom." A little shocked, mom said "you can't be, she's dead." It turned out that this woman was calling her daughter Beverley, who had a very similar number.

Nell Rose (author) from England on September 29, 2011:

Hi, Jama, that's amazing! isn't it funny how things like this happen? My friend Pat has a 10 at the end of her phone number, and another Pat has 01, all the rest of the numbers are the same, and in the same order! the amount of time I spend talking to the wrong one! lol we got quite friendly in the end, I even phoned her from Greece! ha ha I got a divorce on 18th November, that's when it was all done and dusted, and I had got married on the 18th November! my ex's dad was born and died on the same day, 9th august, and there are so many other coincidences I could be here all day! lol I love your story, I would have loved to see the look on his face! thanks again, nell

Joanna McKenna from Central Oklahoma on September 29, 2011:

Can't believe I only just now found this hub. Coincidence or telepathy? lol! Okay, seriously now...

My mother's father was born on 28 May 1877 and my dad (his son-in-law) died on 28 May 1977. But it gets weirder... That grandpa *died* on 11 Oct 1954 and my other grandpa (my dad's dad) was born AND died on 11 Oct (1869 and 1931).

I once had a phone number only one number off from a woman whose first name was the same as mine (Joanna), so calls for her (or her son whose name was the same as my son's) were often similar to the one between you and Karen until we became so familiar with the voices of her regular callers that we could simply say "You dialed it wrong again".

Oh, and we not only lived on different streets in the same part of town, but the names of our streets were similar and our house numbers were only (surprise) one number off.

The story would end there except both of us ALSO owned a white Toyota. What are the chances? But mine was older and paid for. Hers was newer and not paid for, and apparently she was a couple of payments behind. So I was getting calls from a guy at the loan company who would NOT believe he had the wrong Joanna. He also wasn't as diligent as he should've been in double-checking his information, because by my phone number or address, he found out where I worked and showed up there one afternoon.

My boss happened to be at the reception desk, and after pointing him to my office added, with a chuckle, "but you're going to be sorrrrry...". Because she knew and I knew that the Joanna he was looking for was black and I'm not. The look on his face when he skidded to a stop in my doorway and saw me was priceless! And you betcha I couldn't resist saying "Told ya so..."! ;D

Nell Rose (author) from England on September 29, 2011:

Hi, sorry it took me so long to get back, mad day! lol this definitely sounds like telepathy. After reading this, I just have an overwhelming feeling of sadness for you. It seems that you kept what I call 'missing'. in other words, even though there were some amazing telepathic type links going on, your life kept getting out of kilter with each other. If you believe in a soul mate it seems that this man was the real one. But who knows what would have happened if you had lived together? it may not have worked out, or it could have been the best thing that ever happened. Who knows what the future might bring? if nothing else, you have a friend for life, and not many people can say that. Amazing story, and thanks for sharing, cheers nell

Gizmosgirl on September 28, 2011:

Thanks for the reply Nell. I'd like to keep it here even if I set up a hub page... your article was such an appropriate place to write it down.

There are some more twists to this...

I looked him up in 2007 - that kiss was still bugging me - and we emailed back and forth, US to SA, off and on. We wished each other in advance for Christmas end 2007 and he mentioned "they" would be holidaying in Cape Town and what were my plans for the summer holidays?

I thought about it, couldn't imagine meeting up with him when Chicago wife would be around... so I never answered that email.... I just never replied at all...

Then 2 months later we met in the airport.

Also, in 2003 he had been on my mind for a week or so for no reason (I had an old hotmail address for him then) so one day the urge to write grew pretty strong.

I emailed.

Got a reply a few seconds later....

He was travelling in Bolivia and there was a coup taking place in the streets outside. He was locked into an internet cafe not sure if they'd get out alive...

He was gobsmacked to get an email from me right at that moment of fear in his life.

Because I've lived in Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and returned to SA twice in between all that, my contact details, email addresses and contact details for friends etc weren't easy to keep up. I never had a hotmail account, always a local, national email address, which closed everytime I relocated...

The hotmail address I had for him I found on a notepad somewhere one day. When I looked him up in 2007 I found him via google and emailed his work email. He was gobsmacked again. He'd just started that job and not even his relatives had that email.

The timing of when I contacted him was always a bit "turning point in lifeish"

The last emails we exchanged were after the airport meeting in February 2008. We emailed back and forth several times. Behind the scenes I was overwhelmed by the synchronicity, worried I was investing too much hope in the meetings or going to get hurt again - he was married. It seemed an impossible situation if nobody was going to say anything. I didn't know what to do, so I stopped writing.

I met my husband in May 2008. A few months after the airport meeting.

We dated for several months, went to live abroad for a year, got married, my father died. Life was busy! When it calmed down I emailed the ex love to say I'd gotten married. I never got a reply...

In February this year he was on my mind big time again... I found out later via his brother's Facebook page that they'd had a baby in February...

It's like there's a telepathy thing going on - at big momenets in his life I'm tuned in. But it's impossible to explain the timing of those airport meetings. The sheer logistics... when i think of how randomly I chose the date to fly to Paris... and time of day...

I have no doubt he loves his wife like I love my husband. But the big love? That was him and I. And I think one day we may have to meet for a drink and talk and talk and talk... even if we never act on anything. Just to express the sadness and how much we have missed each other. Just to get all the emotion and truth out.

I have thought of writing a book about this. In a way it'd be easier to write the book and then tell him to read it than to talk... And when I hear Adele's song, Someone Like You, it gives me goose bumps.

Nell Rose (author) from England on September 28, 2011:

Hi, Gizmosgirl, Wow! before I say anything I think you must copy this and make a hub of it, its already there! no work needed, its so amazing! let me know when you have done it and I will delete this so its not a regarded as a copy. Now back to your story, Wow again! this could be a film, I think you two should definitely be together. Every single time you got together, one or the other of you put that 'straight face' thing on, hiding your emotions, after that kiss, the last one, and you said, follow your heart, I think he was going to tell you the truth, that he loves you. Is there any way you can find him now? if that's what you really, really, want then go for it, even if it doesn't work out then at least you will finally know. What a story! thanks for sharing, nell

Gizmosgirl on September 28, 2011:

Great article. I'd love to know what you make of this synchronicity!

In 1995 ex love and I say a very tearful goodbye at Johannesburg airport. He was moving to work in London and I'd taken a job in Johannesburg (we were from Cape Town).

He had brought up marriage after 1.5 years together and I had shown I wasn't ready. I was still conflicted about a previous relationship. I loved him - a lot -, but I was young, commitment phobic due to family baggage and thought the world would be full of guys like him.

Things then started going badly between us when he discovered his dad had been cheating on his mom. Then for some weird reason I encouraged him to land a job in London, which he did. Once the job was finalised talk turned to how he wanted me to "wait for him". I said if he wanted that we should get engaged. He said no, after a year.

The goodbye was a fake "split" - we still wanted to hang on but were very young and dealing with a lot of individual family havoc. He wanted me to wait a year for him ie have a long distance relationship. Not my thing and I feared he would meet tons of girls (very attractive guy).

We kept in touch over 1996 but the calls were stormy. Sometimes he'd call and accuse me of seeing someone. I wasn't. I stayed single... heartbroken, but I didn't let him know how much I missed him. I was full of pride and hurt over he'd changed towards the end of 1995.

In early 1997 I'd landed a job in another country and visited London to see my brother for a week. A week became 5 when I got pneumonia and wasn't allowed to fly. I saw ex love for a few days after I recovered because my brother picked a major fight with me and things were so unpleasant my ex offered me a place to stay.(that's a story in itself but things were platonic). My ex love was cool in person the entire time I stayed at his apartment, which he shared with flatmates. I was hurt, but didn't say a thing about it. On the day before I was due to fly out I discovered exactly why he'd been acting so cool - he'd cheated on me with a girl back home at the end of 95 and he'd fallen for a Chicago girl he'd met one night in a bar in London. I found letters and photos and resolved to say nothing. My whole body shook with hurt but at that point in my life pride was everything. I went to watch a movie to escape from the pain.

After the movie I packed my bags and moved to a friend of my sister's for the night. She invited me to go out that night so I went clubbing till 5am and woke up late the next day.

I rang my sister in law to say goodbye and she told me my ex love and been calling her 10 times that morning, frantic because I hadn't come "home" the night before.

By then my heart had turned to ice and I decided remote control was the best way to play it. I rang my ex at his office and told him I was leaving for the airport. My voice was cool, no longer open, vulnerable etc.

He could tell something major had happened but had no idea what. I decided he could live with the questions like I had had to...

He ended up crying on the phone - his voice was breaking and he said "please stay in touch". I said "yes" lying through my teeth, the hurt was too great to break down the newly built wall of ice.

I flew off and never stayed in touch. My heart broke a thousand times in the years following because I never let myself process the grief at the time properly.

7 years later I was back living in Johannesburg and at 10pm at night on a Tuesday, had flown back from a day in Cape Town on business. I was waiting for colleagues in the terminal, having just gotten off the plane. I heard someone call my name.

It was my ex love. We hadn't seen each other for 8 years. We stood and stared. He was living in Cape Town (with the Chicago girl, though he never mentioned her) and had travelled up for business. After the initial shock we began walking towards the baggage pick-up but I had to veer away towards the parking lot exit - I had no baggage. My colleagues had called to say they were in the car already. I told him I had to go and he seemed shocked we wouldn't have much time together.

Suddenly he spun around, planted a very "time stopped and I have no idea how long it was" kiss full on my lips and then begun marching rapidly away.... without a word.

We'd exchanged mobile numbers and we did contact each other a few weeks later when I was in Cape Town but I decided against meeting up. He had flu so I'd suggested a Saturday a few days later to meet for coffee. he'd saud "That wouldn't go down very well..." meaning the girlfriend wouldn't like it.

I thought, after THAT kiss and the history, I deserved a bit more, despite the girlfriend's feelings, so although I said I'd call again I didn't. Old hurts came bubbling up... I just left it.

Oh and I knew that he and the girlfriend had agreed to live in SA for 2 years and then the US for 2 years and after that decide where to live in the world. So after 2006 he'd no longer live in SA. I took a job that didn't offer travel to Cape Town again and our paths didn't cross.

Well, till early 2008... 4 years later.

Except this time he was visiting Cape Town on holiday but living in San Francisco... and I was living in Johannesburg and flying to Paris on holiday....

I had just exited passport control into the international departures duty free section when I heard someone call my name.

Again... mind shock. It cannot be... But it was.

And he was travelling on his own, although they had been out together.

He suggested we go to the bar to chat. His flight was leaving in 20 minutes... Mine to Paris was leaving in 40...

We chatted and I tried to stop my hand shaking when he lit my cigarette. He had been incredibly anti smoking when we dated and now he was smoking... My shock just didn't wear off.

He asked what I was going to Paris for... then guessed it was a French boyfriend. I said yes. He said he wasn't happy living in the US but didn't know what he was going to do. We were still on that topic when they called his flight. So we stood up to hug and these words just popped out of my mouth: "Just follow your heart".

He sort of jolted, stepped back and looked me in the eyes. I was terrified I'd let my feelings slip and played "blank face" looking back at him.

What a ridiculous masquerade. Holding onto the mutual fear of being hurt over the years. Who knows what could have or should have been said that day?

And here's the final synchronicity twist:

When we'd bumped into each other in 2004, he had married Chicago girl a year later.

When we bumped into each other in 2008, I had married a year later. Not to the new French boyfriend though - each time I bumped into him I was actually single!

I still think of him and I wonder often if we were given very generous, unusual chances to change the course of our lives? Were we meant to be together? Could we have had another chance? What was fate trying to do?

How would other women have handled this?

I'd love to hear readers' thoughts on this incredible repeated synchronicity. The odds of that last meeting must be a million to one. I've only been to Paris twice in my life! He was flying from cape Town via Johannesburg airport to San Francisco. the timing of it all is incredible.

I'm also an astrology fan and one very unusual thing I've found in our charts is that we share the same vertex degree - the point of fate.

Hi, Hubpageswriter, they are strange aren't they? perhaps we see to much into them, or maybe not enough! thanks again nell

Hi, Ashantina, I do wonder if the universe affects our way of life too, everything else balances out in nature, so maybe the universe gives us a nudge too! thanks again nell

Ashantina on December 24, 2010:

I always look forward to coincidences in my life, I view it as confirmation that I'm on the right track or some guidance from the Universe showing me that I need pay extra attention to whatever is being presented... great hub!!

hubpageswriter on December 23, 2010:

Such a perfect hub and a well delved topic too. I'd say some coincidences are really well-time and planned out. Not necessarily in a forceful order though. I call it irony, fate, luck and many too, among others. But I don't mind. Some coincidences are purely random and are welcomed very much. Hub up, Nell.

Antoine Van Hove on December 18, 2010:

Nell, that last addition was kindly meant, you know.

Not sarcastic or anything...

Antoine Van Hove on December 18, 2010:

BTW, allow me this one small addition:

Is there something "supernatural" going on?

Sorry, but I like this one so much!

How about life itself?

How more "supernatural" can you get, do you think?

Antoine Van Hove on December 18, 2010:

Hi Nell,

My life is literally filled with so called "Coincidences" and synchronisity.

Coincidences to me are signs our mind identifies and recognizes as the difference to what is expectable or not. Or to what it has projected in front of itself, as what was to or would be expected.

Synchronicity is the challenge the Devine puts constantly in front of the fragmented self, that considers itself all knowing and all powerfull.

The mind recognizes this, and has a desire to deal with it.

Herein lays the danger, however!

One can easily start fooling him/herself by starting to look for "signs" everywhere. And if it looks well enough, it will of course find all kind of signs.

Being "off course", this time the mind is confronted, not with synchronicity, but with its own projections!

The "signs" have become some sort of self created abstractions. Our ego just loves doing this!

So how to distinct the difference between the two?

Simply change your attitude from active to passive.

If you actively seek, then it is your ego fooling you.

If it "just falls accidentely and completely unexpected in front of you", then it is synchronisity.

Now there might be still even a deeper catch to all this:

Even the synchronisity, in which we seem to fool us, might as well be the synchronisity we need for our evolution. As everything we meet in life is.

Since, it helps us, be it sometimes after many, many "self, as synchronisity created projections, to become aware of the process. To enable us to learn the difference.

As all things that cross our path probably do...

So, looked at it that way, everything in our experiences is synchronisity!

But is only recognized as such by our minds, in rare moments it experiences the contrast as being "to good, to much coincidence to be true", through seemingly impossible situations that defy logic and probability.

It is my conviction, the Devine calls us permanently to become more aware and awake to our true nature. We just are not aware of it most of the time!

Thus, that which we recognize as "synchronistic events" are only those wake up calls of the Devine part of ourselves, which draw and "catch" the attention of our mind temporarely.

Because the mind experiences them as being more "exceptional" than other circumstances we "usually" encounter.

And which we may recognize as such. Or not!

Depending on our level of awareness.

(ourselves, or ourselve; in the end, there is only one conscious at work)!

Thanks for the HUB! I discovered it "by accident!"

:-) :-) :-)

Hi Nell- I just loved this Hub and serendipity itself. I love the Einstein quote and the Mark Twain coincidence.

Nell Rose (author) from England on December 16, 2010:

Hi, Martie, thanks for reading it, it was strange wasn't it? that's a great idea, I might just do that! I will have to get my thinking cap on! ha ha thanks as always, nell

Hi, penny, thanks so much, we are connected, and there may well be more to coincidences, I would love to know! nell

pennyofheaven from New Zealand on December 15, 2010:

Meaningful coincidences. Since we are connected what seems random may very well not be. What seems like coincidence may very well not be. Excellent hub. Thorougly enjoyed Thanks!

Martie Coetser from South Africa on December 15, 2010:

I believe in Telepathy – many-many times it proved itself to be true in my life. Coincidence... well, many things happen coincidentally... Perhaps it is God’s way to keep us aware of his existence. I mean those twins dying on the same day separately on one road. That is too weird to be mere coincidence. Nell, what about challenging all hubbers to write a hub about their personal experience of telepathy and coincidence? That will be so interesting to read, don’t you think so?

This was an enjoyable, very interesting, read. Lots of hugs from me to you.

Nell Rose (author) from England on December 15, 2010:

Hi, Lightning john, thanks for stopping by, Wow, what a funny coincidence! it is so strange how these things happen, as you say we all seem to have so many that we could talk about, there must be something in coincidences, maybe fate? thanks nell

Hi, mysterylady, isn't it funny? I have done that several times, and I often wonder why that is, some people would just say it was a random thing, who knows? cheers nell

mysterylady 89 from Florida on December 15, 2010:

I enjoyed this hub, Nell. At one point, I made a list of coincidences and was amazed at the number that occurred in just a week. The most recent: I read drbj's hub on Cleopatra, watched a rerun of Jon Stewart's Daily Show he had made on the same day I read the hub, and caught his interviewing a woman who had just published a biography of Cleopatra. The next day Parade magazine had an article about that same woman.

I also believe I experience mental telepathy, but only with some people.

lightning john from Florida on December 14, 2010:

Hi Nell, Great Hub! I once had a friend that told me that the time 11:11 would be very significant for me. This was in 1999 when she told me. Since then when something major happens in my life, I look at the clock and it's, 11:11. She was killed in a car wreck in 2004. But I feel as if she is with me some how, in some way.

I am also very connected to my soon to be wife. Many times she has called me to tell me to get an item from the store, and at that very moment I will have already have it in my hand in the grocery. It gets even better, that's just one example, don't want to be a bore. I love this hub, and there is no coincidence that I came across it at 2:40 A.M. after going outside to skywatch.

Nell Rose (author) from England on December 14, 2010:

Hi, Audrey, I know what you mean! I must have a messed up telepathy gauge too! lol I have often dreamed of something happening to somebody and I got the person wrong! strange! maybe we are like radio's, picking up the signal but the stupid brain gets in the way! lol thanks again nell

Audrey Kirchner from Washington on December 14, 2010:

Wow, Nell - that's some weird karma! I have some dates that are coincidental I suppose but I try not to associate too much to them!

I do get weird premonitions sometimes and have dreams about things that are going to happen. Sometimes they flip - meaning the thing actually happens but it happens to someone other than who I dreamed about - so my predicting is right on but it's for the wrong person! What kind of a talent is that? I think I have a crossed wire in my telepathy gauge!

Interesting hub, though - as always!

Hi, Ivorwen, wow isn't it strange? coincidences are really spooky sometimes, thanks so much nell

Hi, Petra, thanks for commenting, it was the strangest thing, I must admit at the time I was surprised that she knew the telephone number of my brothers house, but then I just thought, well, I must have given it to her, nell

Hi, Mike, wow, now that is a story!I wonder if it was telepathy or fate? maybe that is another word for coincidence. Fate! thanks nell

Hi, Hello, I am sure that there must have been loads that have happened to you in the past, but we try and forget them because they are just too strange! thanks nell

Hello, hello, from London, UK on December 14, 2010:

There are certainly some mysterious thing happenings which can't be explained. Several things happened to me.

Mike Marks on December 14, 2010:

many moons ago I was so in love that for at least a year I couldn't hear the sounds coming from the sights of other people's moving mouths, my inner voice was so deafening loud with the replay of her saying goodbye. During that year I did not visit her, telephone her, or accidenally run into her. In an attempt to resolve her I spent a few days putting all my love and pain, my thoughts and feelings, onto a canvas. For those few days I was fully concentrated on just her and the touch of my painting tools. When I finished the painting, I knew, KNEW, that I was going to coincidentally, accidentaqlly, run into her, so I walked to the bank to get a couple of bucks in my pocket, and on the way to the bank I did run into her and gave her the painting.

Petra Vlah from Los Angeles on December 13, 2010:

Great hub, Nell. Many times I asked myself if this or that was just a coincidence. Your phone conversation was just great - the most bizar coincidence I would say.

Ivorwen from Hither and Yonder on December 13, 2010:

The story of the lost brothers is amazing to me!

Walking into the mall, with my now husband, I saw my best friend from high school. He was on his way out of the mall with his now wife. For a moment, we both forgot everything and hugged, then remembered who we were with, turned to introduce our significant others, who both replied, "I know."

Hi, Rema, thanks for stopping by, it is a very difficult thing to differentiate between telepathy and coincidence, sometimes it is obviously telepathy, other times there is no way it can be, interesting, thanks nell

Hi, prasetio, thank you as always for reading it, Telepathy is real, and maybe that is why coincidence works, we feel the other persons mind, and then we see them, nell

Hi, Polly, what a horrible thing to happen, and it is amazing how many times this sort of feeling occurs, I have often suddenly thought of someone and then seen them for the first time in ages, or even more so dream about them, there is another hub there somewhere, because it is so mysterious, take care nell

Hi, dashingclare, Wow, that was lucky, or a coincidence! a similar thing happened to my mum in the second world war, she was in the Airforce and was supposed to come home on leave one saturday, but she changed it with another girl, and the following week she came home instead. When she got back to camp, the conning tower where she would have been, had been blown away! thanks nell

Rosemary Amrhein on December 13, 2010:

Hey Nell<

The things that interest me prob the most, are when someone was "meant" to die in an accident and barely survived, and doctors say it was a 'miracle' and it sems to be, like maybe they were menat to live and finally accept Christ, or to help someone, to have a mission. It seems that eveyone is like cause and effect, people change you for the better or worse and you may think God used a bad thing for good, etc.

Wow, Nell this is a great hub.I've always felt that some things happen for a reason.I believe in premonitions, like being somewhere and feeling that you've been there before,or seeing someone and thinking you know them, and you don't.I want to believe in reincarnation, maybe we've been here before, who knows? anyway, some food for thought.Thank you for opening the door to what if.

I love strange husband was telling me recently about night years ago he was talking about an acquaintance that he worked with that suddenly disappeared...we wondered if he was still alive...the next day he saw him pumping gas next to him at a gas station...this was at least 20 years after he had disappeared....only a day after mentioning his name, he saw him.

Rema T V from Chennai, India on December 13, 2010:

Hi Nell,

Very interesting hub; would make anyone stop and think. Well I have had a few experiences with coincidence or telepathy I'm not sure. My mom and I used to say the same thing at the same time when I was much younger, and now my daughter and I go through the same thing, strange but true.

Telepathy maybe--because same thoughts occurring at the same time is called so. Expressing it at the same time is perhaps coincidence-am I right? Not sure really, but these things do happen in life. thanks for the lovely hub.

prasetio30 from malang-indonesia on December 13, 2010:

I love something related with supernatural and I found this in your hub, Nell. I believe there are a few people have this ability. But by using telepathy they could send the message and they might be know what happen next. I am glad to know this from you. Take care!

Pollyannalana from US on December 12, 2010:

I think synchronicity is somewhat different from coincidence, did a study on it years ago and goes really weird, synchronicity that is. I have personally had a couple of sort of premonitions, one was about my husbands niece, she was thirteen and we never thought about her or talked about her, much older than our kids but one night I couldn't get her off my mind and told my husband about it but we just dropped it, just a strange feeing. She was killed in a car accident the next day, right in front of her grandparent's house.

Anaya M. Baker from North Carolina on December 12, 2010:

Wow, this was great! I love the phone conversation story especially! I firmly believe that there's more to coincidences than just chance...serendipity, divine intervention, karma or grace, whatever you choose to call it, there's just so many ways that life never ceases to amaze)

WeNdYpOoPoO from Hudson Valley NY on December 12, 2010:

things are certainly strange..Have you ever had a dream and sometime later either that day or cown the road you actually have it happen in real life I have. I have always wondered about this. Cool HUB Nell

dashingclaire from United States on December 12, 2010:

I don't believe in coincidences or random acts. I do believe things/events happen for a reason. We may or may not ever discover why. My administrator was scheduled to attend a meeting at the Pentagon on 9-11. Being anal, she was always super early but not that day. Totally out of character, she stopped to answer the phone. It was the call about the World Trade Center. She started making calls and never left for the meeting. That's only one example.

Katie McMurray from Ohio on December 12, 2010:

WOW you've both blown my mind and woke me up to many an ah ha moment of my own as I think about it. Hmmmm very interesting. I'll def be reading this again. Peace :)

Thanks for sharing these very interesting examples.

msorensson on December 12, 2010:

Awesome, Nell!

My take, there are no coincidences...

The number of synchronicities in our lives is directly proportional to our open mindedness.

Hi, daughterson, that was fascinating, how wonderful to have a rose bloom on your daughters birthday! thanks so much nell

Faye Mitchell from Columbus, Ohio on December 12, 2010:

Great hub -- I enjoyed it very much. It has inspired me to write about a dead rose bush that bloomed in January on my daughter's birthday, no leaves just one big beautiful rose.

I too believe in telepathy, for all the reasons you mentioned. I have had more than my fair share of experiences since a was a small child. It comes and goes with intensity.

Your hubs are always very interesting.
