Cleansing the Inner Vessel - God is Good

True Christian Principles are not the property of a faith, but the heritage of ALL true religion, even if not of apparent Christian origin.

Jesus speaking to His disciples about an incident where He was judged of the Pharisee and the Scribes about other disciples they witnessed eating with unwashed hands said,

...there is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. Mark 7:15

In this article, the goodness of God is a way that we as seekers of goodness can learn how to cleanse our vessels to become pure and clean spiritually. The key to learning about God's goodness is seeking to be good. Because our behavior is what comes out of man.

What does it mean to be good? In today's society, the definition of good means acceptable and pleasing. Is that what God is: acceptable and pleasing? Is acceptable and pleasing what the prophets spoke of Him only?

No. God is good in that he shares all creation with His creations. In the scriptures when it refers to the goodness of God, it refers to His willingness to give things to His Children, sharing. God is good because He delivered the Israelites out of bondage. God is good because He created a plan to make men happy. God is good because He sent His Son to atone for the sins for the world.

Good God

God is good God is great

Let us thank Him for our Plate

By His hands, we are fed

Thank Him for our daily Bread.

God is Good because He Cares

God is a person who cares. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon Him: for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7-8

In order to understand that God is good, it is our privilege to understand that He is a person with feelings, passions, and parts. Love is the overarching emotion that permeates the universe because of the goodness of God. All the elements of creation love and honors God because of the effort He took to organize them into intelligent creations.

God Expects His children, His followers to be as He is because "the children of God were commanded that they should gather themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who knew not God.: Alma 6:9

God loves all people and cares for the salvation of all people which is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and atone for the sins of the world. Because He cares what we do each day, what thoughts we think, and how we experience life, God gives a method of living that promises success if followed. Because He cares He offers redemption. Because He cares, He offers perfection.

It is possible to have true peace and love in this life if we fully commit to living the principle of love of God, family, our fellow men, and ourselves in that order.

God is Good because He is Just

Providing each of His creations with exactly what they deserve, God does not play favorites when it comes to the importance of His children, humanity. Knowing that humanity is a fallen and lost people because of the many mistakes that we make on a daily bases, God provided a compensation plan for sins. All of the creations of God were organized and watched by God in the beginning until they formed the structures He commanded of them. The elements came together to form light, earth, water, heavens, vegetations, and creatures on many worlds, though Earth and the Sol Star System is the focus of this article.

Because the information in the Scriptures are written in archaic English in some translations, the complexity of the creation of the Sol Star Systems is relegated to a story that most people think is a myth. It cannot be helped. There is no scientists among the human race capable enough to perform a test using the scientific method to recreate what God accomplished here, yet.

Because all the things God created obey him save one, His children created in His image, there is a decree that all things that do not obey cannot exist as perfected physical beings. In other words, the wages of sin is death. The elements that make up our bodies crumble back to the simple elements that constitute life leaving only the finer elements that make the spirits, or spark of life in each living thing.

All the elements honor God's words because once he decrees something, that thing will happen. Since humans sin, disobey, the elements that compose our bodies are not obligated to remain cohesive for eternity. That is only just and fair.

Thankfully for humanity, God sent a sinless person to pay the ransom for the mistakes of mankind in Jesus Christ.

God is Good We Must Be Too

Jesus of Nazareth instructed His disciples to "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 4:48. He then commanded after His resurrection and subsequent visit to the ancient Americas "Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect." 3 Nephi 12:48

The command was for all people to live their lives in such a manner that they will become like the Father after this life is finished and they are resurrected as was Jesus Christ. The perfected Jesus had accomplished His life mission to atone for the sins of the world, ushering a way for human beings back into the presence of God.

What is our life mission? It is to be good. God is fair, so we must also be fair. God is caring, so we must also be caring. What we are not, we can become because we are given many opportunities to be fair and caring each day.

King Solomon in his dedicatory prayer for the temple at Jerusalem petitioned,

That all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none else. Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day. I Kings 8:61

What was King Solomon referring to? Of course, he was speaking of the children of ancient Israel and the sacrificial ordinances of the Law of Moses. Today, his plea means the sacrifice of the human heart. The Savior, Jesus Christ said to the ancient Nephites, "And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost." 3 Nephi 9:20

Let our hearts be perfect, complete with the Lord. Let the things that we do not divide our loyalty to God's plan of happiness for us. Let us be good like Him, completely.

Songify my Poem: Holy Spirit Guide Me

Holy Spirit Guide Me Poem

Every hour every minute every second of the day

I reflect upon my Savior and What he did for me

He has freed me from the monsters of sin and death and hell

He showed me how to reach Him just beyond the veil.

To let the Holy Spirit Guide me

Feel His presence up inside me

Let His Holy Spirit Guide me home to my Father above.

The Good Shepherd

I have seen the darkest corners living without God in my life

I have also witnessed Jesus in the face of my wife

I have tasted of His Goodness and joy by doing what is right

For my faith, His Grace rewards me with a position at His side.

I let His Holy Spirit guide me.

Feel His presence up inside me

Feel His holy presence guide me home to my Father of love.

The way is prepared for all men and women who have trust in Him

To lead their lives to the right.

O, Savior, save me from my sins with Thee perfection will begin

As I come closer to leave this life.

I let the Holy Spirit guide me

Let His light shine all around me.

Feel His presence lead and guide me home by the sign of a dove.

To repeat, the Light of Christ is given to all men and women that they may know good from evil; manifestations of the Holy Ghost are given to lead sincere seekers to gospel truths that will persuade them to repentance and baptism.

Thanks, Pamela for our words and your mini-sermon! We all do fall short of the glory of God which is why I am tremendously grateful for Jesus Christ who suffered for our sins so that we can be the purified silver if we endure the fire of repentance and allow Jesus to remove the impurities from our lives. I love that comparison. I heard it once, but it means more to me now after you described it here.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 20, 2018:

There is much to think about in your words. You are right, God is good, but we all fall short unfortunately. The Good News is that he forgives us when we repent.

I try to treat everyone I meet with kindness and a smile, but I if I am overly tired or in pain it is not as easy to be good to everyone. I get angry when a car is tailgating me on the freeway, but I do get out of their way.

One time my brother told me I would be like a pot of silver that is on the fire and the impurities boil to the top and boil off. I don't know if I have those words exactly right, but I am sure a better person now than I was way back then. Thanks for the sermon. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
