The LAST SUPPER with Jesus

The LAST SUPPER with Jesus

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a Chaotic Time in the History of the World. . .

History recalls that the public ministry of Jesus Christ lasted only a few short years starting when he was "about thirty years of age" (Luke 3:23). He had spent His life learning and patiently preparing for the destiny that awaited Him. All the Gospels report that he had already become known as a religious teacher. When it was the appropriate time, the Holy Spirit called Jesus and moved Him towards His designated purpose. Jesus began to preach but it was during a time of great political turmoil, social strife, and religious conflict in the land of Judea. He started to assemble the key people that would help Him forever change the course of human history for all time to come.

Those people were. . .

At a recent Bible study group, it was interesting to see how many people could correctly name all of the first (12) Apostles that worked directly with Jesus during His ministry; the ones that were with Him up until the time of His arrest before the crucifixtion. Many people remembered the "four fishermen" who were called directly by Jesus at the Sea of Galilee and some were even able to remember a few more, but that is where it got really amusing to find out who people believed were the other Apostles and why they thought so. We tend to remember the mental image of the "Last Supper", when Jesus had His final Passover meal with the core group of disciples and what transpired afterwards, but for some reason many still do not know who all of the people are depicted in that painting or what is listed in scripture. Some of this confusion is that scripture lists different names (or variations) for the same person depending on the event being referred to and who the account was written by.

The chain of events that followed that fateful meal culminated in betrayal, denial, suicide, the scattering of the disciples, and after Christ's crucifixtion, the remaining Apostles also had to choose a replacement for the missing member of this elect group (the 13th Apostle). Not many people remember all of these details or even what happened in the earliest days of the "Church of the New Covenant" with the establishment of the foundation for Christianity to come.

That is what we will reveal here in the following set of articles for your benefit and interest.

Interpreting Your Score

If you got between 0 and 7 correct answers: TRY AGAIN - That is less than 1/3 of them correct - *HINT* = a common misconception is that the writers of the (4) Gospels (Matthew-Mark-Luke-John) were all members of the original twelve Apostles (BUT-it was only two of them!).

If you got between 8 and 15 correct answers: TRY AGAIN - That is almost half of them correct - *HINT* = (2) of the Apostles are the Brothers to (2) of the others (all four being members of the original twelve Apostles).

If you got between 16 and 20 correct answers: NOT BAD - But that is still just over half of them correct - *HINT* = (4) of them have the same First Name (2 sets of 2 names), and of these, one had his name changed by Jesus - TRY AGAIN.

If you got between 21 and 22 correct answers: ALMOST THERE - You've gotten most of them correct - *HINT* = Some of the original (12) Apostles had alternate names - TRY AGAIN.

If you got between 23 and 25 correct answers: GREAT JOB! - If you Scored 100% that means you also correctly answered (Matthias) as the disciple choosen to replace (Judas Iscariot) as the 13th Apostle!

Rev. Teddy C. Ryan III (author) from a life in sin saved by the Lord's grace - we are blessed with the ministry in Florida & Georgia on February 07, 2011:

@Tamarajo -Glad you've enjoyed it and great job! The reason I started this series was because with a study group I spoke at recently, most people we doing good to get between half and two thirds (even with tips and let alone knowing the 13th Apostle). Keep up your own excellent work in the Lord's service as well. With blessings... Rev.Ted
