Holy and Worthy is the Lamb
Many songs have been written regarding personal experiences with Jesus, the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world. He is Holy and He is worthy and many have put this truth to music. In today's society, there is more emphasis on worship songs, and there are churches where hymns are no longer sung.I find that many of the older hymns continue to have the power to transform as they tell of His goodness and His glory. I personally enjoy Michael W Smith singing Worthy is the Lamb, but I also get comfort from the hymn Blessed Quietness. There is peace and quietness that anyone can obtain. There is also that Holy peace, quietness and serenity that only comes upon us from on High.
Joys are flowing
- Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.
Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
Blest assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea, *Jesus speaks to me, [*He speaks peace to me,]
And the billows cease to roll.
- Everything is turned to gladness,
All around this glorious Guest;
Banished unbelief and sadness,
All is perfect peace and rest.
- Like the rain that falls from heaven,
Like the sunlight from the sky,
So the Holy Spirit given,
Falls upon us from on high.
- What a wonderful salvation,
Where we always see His face!
What a peaceful habitation!
What a quiet resting place
Blessed Quietness is a song that was in the Baptist Hymnal and sung in the church I attended growing up. This was a traditional Baptist church and I knew nothing about moves of the spirit. When we sang this song, however, I would always feel a stirring deep within but had no idea this was the Holy Spirit. Blessed Quietness was written by Manie Payne Ferguson in 1897, and is her most popular work. Ferguson was born in Carlow which is a town outside of Dublin, Ireland in 1950. The words and melody she penned so many years ago still minister today to those who qualify.The hearts that trust Jesus will find that His Spirit makes a home with them.
Joy flowing like a river
The first verse of this song is specific as it only applies to those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He promised His followers that He would send a Comforter after He ascended into heaven and He kept His word. John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 50 days after His ascension the Holy Spirit descended and filled the hearts of those in the upper room with unspeakable joy. In his song Let the rain of Yoru Presence fall on me, Bishop Clarence McClendon sings of love divine and joy unspeakable.
Rain from heaven
Michael W Smith sings about the flood gates from heaven opening up and the rain falling. The second His presence is like the rain that verse of Blessed Quietness speaks of His presence being like the rain that falls from heaven and the sunlight shining. This indeed is a peaceful habitation and a quiet resting place for those who have received the Guest send from above. In those moments everything indeed is turned to joy and gladness. His children cry out in ecstasy, Open the floodgates of heaven and Let it rain!!!!
Receiving the unspeakable joy
If you would like to experience this unspeakable joy, the first thing to do is to ask Jesus Christ to come into your life by confessing that you believe He is the Savior and the Son of the living God. Once you acknowledge His virgin birth, sacrifice on Calvary, resurrection and second coming you can be filled with the Comforter. Perhaps you believe in the Lord and have attended church faithfully but have never experienced the indwelling of His gift. Ask Him today to fill you with His Holy Spirit and He will. You will then begin to understand why you have seen your brothers and sisters in Christ speaking in other tongues, crying, shouting and running. Only from yeshua/Jesus/the Christ can you receive the blessed assurance in your soul. When the seas of life are stormy, onylHe can make the billows cease to roll.
