I like to hear of people being at the right place at the right time. There are many biblical examples of that particular theme because God is always in the business of making sure people are at the right place at the right time.
From these biblical examples, you might feel that God either has you at the right place or is sending you to the right place for such a time as this.
Joseph: At the Right Place at the Right Time
Being at the right place at the right time doesn't always mean all conditions are going to be favorable. One of the most profound stories in the Bible is found in Genesis 37-50 when Joseph was put down into the pit, down to Egypt, and down in Potiphar’s jail because of his jealous brothers.
Joseph’s dreams got him into trouble with his brothers, and he ended up in slavery in Egypt. This was God’s plan put in motion for Joseph to be at the right place at the right time. Later, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream. Here we see that the same thing that caused trouble for Joseph is the thing that caused him to be promoted to become second in command in Egypt. The brothers had to go to Joseph for food for survival. For you see, Joseph was at the right place at the right time.
Moses: At the Right Place at the Right Time
Moses was born during the time when Pharaoh had sent out a decree that all boy babies should be killed by throwing them in the Nile River. Moses’ mother hid the baby for as long as she could and when she couldn’t hide him any longer, she did put him in the Nile River, but not the way Pharaoh has ordered. Moses was put in a basket and at the right time, Pharaoh’s daughter found him. Moses was at the right place at the right time to be saved (Exodus 2:1-10).
Many years later when Moses was 80 years old, he was on the backside of the mountain tending Jethro’s sheep when God called him to be the one to deliver the slaves out of Egypt. Moses was at the right time at the right place to hear God speak through a burning bush (Exodus 3).
Saul: At the Right Place at the Right Time
Saul was unexpectedly anointed the first king of Israel. From I Samuel 9, we see that Saul’s father sent him to look for his lost donkeys. Saul didn’t want to go, but because he was obedient to his father, he went anyway.
While he was looking for the donkeys, God intervened through the prophet Samuel who anointed Saul the first king of Israel right then and there. Saul never found the donkeys because it wasn’t about the donkeys. It was about getting Saul to the right place where he could be anointed king of Israel.
Would you be willing to go looking for lost donkeys? God might want to intervene and put you on the most important path of your life. Go look for donkeys.
David: At the Right Place At the Right Time
David’s older brothers were in Saul’s army. When David took them their lunch, he noticed that the Israelites were on one side of the mountain and Goliath was taunting them from the other side. David was at the right place at the right time to save the day by getting rid of Goliath so the taunting would stop (1 Samuel 17).
Esther: At the Right Place at the Right Time
Esther was not supposed to be in the king’s palace because she was a Jew, but see how God orchestrated things for her to become the queen by default. It all started when Queen Vashti refused to dance for the drunken kings.
Esther ended up in the palace for such a time as that to save a whole nation. She was at the right place at the right time. Would you say like Esther, “If I perish, I perish, but I am going to see the king?”
Samaritan Woman: At the Right Place at the Right Time
It is so blazingly hot in Jerusalem that most people go to work early in the morning and take a long break during the middle of the day when it is the hottest. Then they returned to work later in the evening when it is cooler. Since the Samaritans were despised people, the Samaritan woman went to the well to draw water during the middle of the day when she didn't expect to run into anyone.
She was at the right place at the right time to have a one-on-one conversation with Jesus. She went for water, but He gave her living water so she would never thirst again. The Samaritan woman was at the right place at the right time (John 4).
Jesus: At the Right Place and at the Right Time
According to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Jesus was always at the right place at the right time. It was the right place for Him to be born in a manger in the fullness of time. It was the right time for Him to be baptized in the Jordan River. It was the right time for Him to teach, preach and heal.
It was the right time for Him to be crucified. It was the right time for Him to be buried in a borrowed tomb. It was the right time for Him to be resurrected from the dead. It was the right time to ascend into heaven where He now sits on the right hand of God Almighty making intercessions for us. And when He returns, it will be at the right time.
God Places Us At the Right Place At the Right Time
When God’s people were sent into slavery in Babylon, God told Jeremiah to write a letter telling them they were in the right place at that particular time. They were told to build houses and plant vineyards and settle there because they would be there for 70 years.
God told the exiles to appreciate where they were; to bloom where they were planted because they were at the right place at the right time.
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. Build houses and settle down, plant gardens and eat what they produce. (Jeremiah 29:4-5)
God wants us to bloom where we are planted because we might be at the right place at the right time.
Are you at the right place at the right time?
Being at the right place at the right time is not limited to where you are physically, but it is all about where you are spiritually.
God is saying to you what He said to the exiles in Babylon. Go on build houses, plant vineyards, settled down, and enjoy yourself wherever you are because wherever you are, God is there also. God wants you to be at the right place at the right time to see His face and to hear His voice.
Perhaps you are not at the right place in your relationship with God. Perhaps you want to be at the right place at the right time. Know that anytime is the right time to turn your life over to God.
According to Romans 10:9 . . .
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
