Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more
Earlier I have talked about some of the things which when they are constant with us shall always make us the best among our contemporaries as revealed by the Psalmist in the three verses I am writing on in these articles.
These are what the Psalmist enjoyed, which he also wants all to enjoy therefore, he shared those words with us because those words he cannot keep unto himself because the word has become like a fire in his bones that he cannot hid.
“Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.” (Jer. 20:9)
It is my strong believe that if we can do as he did, we shall get to the status he has attained because he is a man of like passion like we all are (Jam. 5: 17) as we shall always be operating at the apex which will draw people from near and far to us for assistances and deliverances.
In the next couple of articles I want to share with us how he possesses understanding more than the ancients as found in verse 100 of Psalms 119.
What Makes the Ancients Stand Out
Everyone knows that what makes the ancients to stand out is understanding, and like what one of my spiritual sons used to say, where we thought we shall find understanding and wisdom if we do not find it there we become devastated and worried.
“With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.” (Job 12:12)
The Hebrew word for ancient here is “ישׁישׁ” which when romanticized is yâshı̂ysh (phonetic spelling is yaw-sheesh') which means old man, aged.
I have to share this because some may think those who are speaking here implies God, for in some places God is used as the Ancient of Days. The author here is talking by men, women, someone who has grown old on earth and says with such kinds of people we get understanding, we also get wisdom.

How do those People Get Wisdom and Understanding?
These ancient ones get their understanding from the experiences they have had on earth. They have passed through so many things on earth by which those things have been developed. Jesus Himself while adding credence to this says that, when the people look at the cloud they can deduce how the day will look like.
“And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” (Mat. 16:3)
This the children cannot do because they have not by experience learnt that it is the elders who have by experience learnt that.
Therefore understanding and wisdom come from experience one has passed through in life and by such one could educate others, forecast among other things.
Little wonder that Elihu the youngest of the friends of Job became worried when those who he thought he will find understanding with them, those he thought he will gain from, those he thought would alleviate the suffering of Job their friend added salt to the injury of the man and he cannot withhold himself back from speaking after their discussion has gotten to a stage.
“I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.” (Job 32:7)
When he discovered that their length of days have not shown them wisdom for whatever reasons that may be he decides to say that
“Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.” (Job 32:9)
Having discovered that age wise they could not proffer solution to what is on ground, what has happened to their friend, he thence offers his own suggestion.
“Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.” (Job 32:10)
From the foregoing we shall discover that sometimes people who we look forward to that they will give us good counsels would fail us, therefore, we have to move close to the unfailing God who shall always supply us good and better things.
In the next article I shall be continuing with the exegesis of this verse.
