Becoming First Among the Equals on Earth #7

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

I have shown us in the earlier article that the man was not proud but he has confidence in what he has been given by God, anyone without confidence will not be able to present himself right, yea, such a person would not be able to pass his message across.

Let us dig the verse a little bit deeper.

4. How Does the Understanding Come About?

We may be tempted to ask how he comes about possessing such outstanding understanding and the answer is not elusive to us, the answer is in the verse,

I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. (Psa. 119:99)

The followings we shall see from the verse:

(i) What is the Testimony Being Said Here?

The testimony here in is the word of God, the words of the law that has been handed over to them.

(ii) Being Instructed from Childhood

It is no understatement that from the childhood phase, the children of Israel have been instructed by different teachers and tutors in the way of God. As it is today that children are first exposed to teachings and instructions from their parents and before going to schools to learn more things about life.

(iii) He Keeps the Testimony of God

What he has been doing with the instructions with which he has been instructed is keeping them even from his childhood phase till he becomes adult.

(iv) Through The Testimony He Gets His Understanding

Since he has not allowed this testimony to leave him at a time, he goes back to the message/testimony when things become tight to know the mind of God on what he wants to do and as he was looking back into those words he starts to get more understanding because God himself comes to instruct him having known that he fears him via his words.

(v) His Constant Meditation

The Hebrew word used for meditation in this verse is “שׂיחה” which when romanticized becomes śı̂ychâh (phonetic spelling is see-khaw') which means reflection, devotion, prayer.

And on seeing how he looks from the Mirror of the word of God, anywhere that needs adjustments and corrections he would make the adjustments and the corrections. He is not like a person who after seeing how he looks like in a mirror will not adjust and would procrastinate as Apostle James says in his book.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. (Jam. 1:23-24)

Since he has been regularly adjusting, after reading and listening to the words of God, Yahweh also has been following the trend and could say of him as he said of Abraham that he fears him always and he is ready to instruct his wards to always fear him.

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. (Gen. 18:19)

God Following Us

The social media have introduced new dimension into the world, and it is called following. If you are not following people on the social media, people will follow you. It is the same spiritually, God is also following us whether or not we follow him and he knows all of our activities and actions, and when we are doing things to make him proud he will be there for us and would give us deeper understandings than our instructors and teachers anyone, anywhere irrespective of what they may have attained in life.

(vi) Though Cannot Be Carried Around

Although the tablets of the then law cannot be carried around like we have Android phones todays, books etc. that contain the words of God which we can always carry around, but it is sure that this man carries the testimony of God around. How? He carries it around in his heart, deep within him he reads, recites the word always.

(vii) What He Always Resort to

This testimony is what he always resort to for consultation on any issues before contacting anyone at all. The word gives him continuous assistance.

I will continue with the exegesis in the next article.
