Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more
In the previous article, I have started my exegesis on Psalms 119:99 and have shown us some immediate reactions and thoughts of some people about the verse. I want us to see some other points about the verse as I continue in this article.
1. The Word is that of Confidence
In “24-hour” one of the American movies that I watched, when there was nuclear melt down, a person was invited by the secretary of state having stated that he can stop the progress of the meltdown, but when he was not stating what he knows with confidence, the secretary of state was not ready to approve his action. However, he removes his nervousness and states that he can do it. When this was stated with confidence by him he was authorized to go ahead.
But when we exude confidence, God will be happy and people too would be happy with us, supporting us, giving us everything we need to achieve our dream and goals in life.
The author of this book states this with confidence, he says what he is now sure of, which he abinitio was not sure of.
2. How the Confidence Comes About
The confidence he has comes about from diligent studies of the past incidents and of course from the interactions he has had with some of the teachers who God has spared their lives.
He was looking forward to how possible it could be for him to attain their status before now, but on further interactions with them, he discovers that he has not only attained their status, but he has exceeded them in understanding.
This was the position the man called Elihu the youngest of the friends of Job who visited him during his travail was. He had been learning from all of them before, albeit during the travails and trials of Job, as wise as all his friends were, he discovered that they were unable to comfort the man, instead of comforting him they added to his plight, depressions, and sorrow.
After waiting for long with no respite coming from them, he voiced out to show that God has equally given him more understanding than they were at least on the issue at hand.
“Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
“When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
“And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.” (Job 32:4-6)
He, Elihu, got to the position that he knows he has more understanding than they all are and wasn’t afraid again to speak but he spoke with confidence and they all listened to him.
There are times we also get to such position that we shall have understanding more than our teachers or elders.

3. How Many Teachers
We shall see from the verse the numbers of teachers he has outwit by his understanding, that they are all.
“I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.” (Psa. 119:99)
In a simpler form, he has brought back to mind the knowledge he has received when he was a child, teenager, youth, and adult and could authoritatively say that he has exceeded them in understanding.
He has observed how they react and response to spiritual and physical issues and debates, he has examined their judgments to issues and discovers that they have been found wanting in answering to national issues.
It is like the case of Joseph in the land of Egypt after he was brought out of the prison, he interpreted the dream of the King, and proffer solutions to the coming crisis. Not a single soul could counter what he has said, and the suggestions given because they all knew it is superior and that he has exceeded them all.
“And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
“And Pharaoh said unto his servants, can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
“And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
“Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.” (Gen. 41: 37-40)
Those astrologers and magicians were initially wiser than him but now he can authoritatively say he has more understanding than they all are because God has vindicated him. When God vindicates us our hidden understanding shall be revealed all everyone shall agree that indeed we have been blessed with superior understanding.
I will continue with the exegesis in the next article.
