Angels - Do You Believe They Help You in Times of Emotional or Physical Crisis?

Angels Cloud Angels

The Angel within us

Do you believe in Angels? Not necessarily the obvious Angelic beings that are portrayed in the Bible. There are many different interpretations of what they actually are, and whether they came down to Earth. But take away the religious context, and ask yourself the question, Angels, do you believe they help you in times of emotional or physical crisis? And what does that actually mean?

First of all let me explain what I mean by Angels. There are the obvious ones, with large white wings, and Heavenly aura, and other similar, but with slightly different interpretations. And then there are those that are a lot more subtle. Angels are sometimes another word for an unseen Being. Or maybe a ghost of a long lost relative. Even a stranger who suddenly appears, just as you are in danger, and maybe saves your life, then totally disappears back into the crowd. The latter are real people. But why were they there at that exact time? Did an unseen force point them in you direction? Maybe they were going to the movies and suddenly 'decided' to go by a different route, therefore being in the right place at the right time.

Your Inner Mind

For example, you are going to work, and being late, you run across the road. Suddenly there is a hand guiding you to safety. You look around but nobody is there. Is that an Angel? Or is it just your subconcious mind seeing the danger and halting your muscles so that you don't run under the car! What do you think? There are many books on the subject. The only trouble is, many of them lead you to believe that everything that happens, is like the story above. Automatically, your Angel keeping an eye on you.

Subconcious

The subconcious mind is a very powerful thing. A recent study showed that, your subconcious mind actually works four seconds before your concious mind can see danger. In other words, if you are indecisive about what you are about to buy in a shop, your subconcious has actually already given you the answer four seconds before you decide! So is that the answer? Well, yes and no.

Subconcious and Danger

So we now know that our 'secret' minds, are actually working ahead of time to keep us safe. We know this is true because we have all driven to work, walked across the beach, run up stairs or even crossed the road without actually being aware of what we are doing. Especially first thing in the morning. Many of us are surprised to find ourselves pulling into the office car park without actually being fully aware of how we got there. Our minds have been 'somewhere' else. Either thinking about what we are going to buy for dinner, or how to save up for our vacation. So, we work on Autopilot. Four seconds is a long time to help us notice danger. Try counting for four seconds, and see just how long it is.

So is that the answer? Are Angels just our subconcious mind saving us from an accident? Maybe.

But what happens if we are not in danger?

There have been many times when something happens that is not within what you would call the danger zone. Take this senario. A woman always pushes her baby in the pram, along a wide stretch of road to get to the park. One day she has a really horrible feeling, and decides to go the other, longer way. When she gets there, she can see, across the park, an ambulance. After talking to someone, she finds out that, at the moment she would have been walking that way, a car had mounted the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian. Did and Angel save her and the baby's life? If not, what was it?

Our Five Senses.

We all have five senses. Smell, touch, sight, hearing, and taste. We know how they each work. Some are more powerful than others. But what if we have 'Super' hearing, etc? By Super hearing, I mean that as in the example above, maybe the woman with the baby actually 'heard' the car in the distance, and subconciously realised that there was something wrong with it. Even though it was a mile away. Sounds bizarre? Maybe. What about smell? Did your subconcious smell the fire that was in the house three blocks away? Sounds fantastic I know, but maybe it is an area of science that we haven't covered yet.

Impossible to Explain

Now we have covered all the 'Super brain' theories, let's get to the crunch. Not all Angel sitings or feelings have a scientific explanation. I am a great believer in Telepathy. There are many tribes of people living in the world today who take this seriously. If you look at it in a scientific way, the brain produces electricity, and without going into how Atoms work, let's just say that it is possible that we can 'hear' our sister calling to us just before they phone. We have all mentioned someone, then a few moments later, they either ring us, or we bump into them in the supermarket. I am trying to clear away all the other explanations for Angelic appearances. So, I think that's it, unless you can think of another one!

Now we come to the main point. Angels.

When I was a baby, my mother always placed me in the cot beside her bed. The cot was never moved, and I had been sleeping in it for about 10 months. One day, my mother ran up the stairs, grabbed me, and literally shot out onto the landing. At that exact second, the roof just above my cot, fell in! Two seconds later, and I would have been marmalade! How on earth did she know? Her explanation to me later in life was, 'I just had this most horrible feeling'. Another time, when my mom was in the R.A.F. She decided, for some reason unknown to herself, that she wanted to change shifts with someone else. That meant taking the nearest weekend off compared to the next. Just as she was about to ask someone, a girl who she worked with, said 'Can we change weekends?' My mom was pleased and headed off to go on leave. When she returned on the Monday, the Conning Tower, where she worked had been completely blown away by a bomb. Suffice to say my mother was mortified and relieved.

And last but not least, another weekend leave arrived, and just as she was going off duty, the officer in charge told her off because she said 'Your skirt isn't correct, go and change it'. So, my mom went and got changed. When she eventually got out, she realised that she had missed her lift. Every week she hitched a lift with an American service man, who drove a lorry. Luckily she got another lift, and on the way back to her town, to her utter shock and grief, there was the lorry halfway up a tree where it had been hit once again by a bomb. I believe for some reason, an Angel was looking after her. At that time, all she could think about was her friend driving the lorry.

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel

A Hole in the Road

A few years ago, while talking to a friend, she mentioned something that had happened to her. This is her story.

'Me and my sister were coming home from a night out, and knowing the road really well we were driving along at a steady speed. The road at that time of night was nearly empty, so we picked up our pace and were going really fast. We just wanted to get home to bed. Suddenly my sister screamed, 'look out', and I looked to where she was pointing. There, in the middle of the road, was a woman. She was waving her arms about, and thinking that there was something wrong, we pulled up to stop. Taking our eyes from the road for a few seconds to open the doors, we noticed to our surprise that when we looked back, the lady had gone! There was nowhere to go. The road was surrounded by a large open field and trees in the distance. When we went over to look at where she had been standing, to our horror, we found that there was a massive hole in the road! If she hadn't stopped us, we would have had at the least, a nasty accident. To this day, we never saw her again, she just disappeared!'.

So, Was a Guardian Angel keeping an eye on them? What do you think?

Theresa Cheung

If you are interested in Guardian Angels, Theresa Cheung has written a series of books telling her story of how Angels influence her life. In this book An Angel spoke to me There are many real life stories of how Angels touched the lives of normal everyday people. I was really engrossed, it is a fascinating look at how we know little of the Angelic realms around us. Great Reading.

Great Article Nell. I apparently read this back 3 years ago. Being on my wall I reread today. As I commented once before I stated I don't just believe of Angels . . . I know there are Angels. I am happy with that. I think we just need to be open to there interactions and accepting. One could write on and on with that as a subject. Any hoot it is good to read this article again as it has given to me a great moment of pause and presented a time of pondering too. Thank you for sharing your insight :-)

I've always believed in angels and guardian angels. I know that my mother, aunt and grandfather are my guardian angels watching me from Heaven. I've been collecting angel figurines and the such for years on end. Last fall, I knew my mom helped me find my way home, when I took a different route from my gym to my new apartment. She helped me get help with new directions. I'm a true believer in angels.

Hi Nell how are you.

Once again you have written another wonderful, interesting and inspirational hub.

I believe in Angels, as you know I also had experiences with the Angels and will never forget it. I believe God sends his angels in times of need.

Scientists must always have an explanation for something or they question it. I say do not question it as the unseen is the very thing that exists in this world that may be of any comfort.

I believe everyone's stories, there is too many stories coming out to be fake. I think that in the past it was more hush hush as most people fear of thinking others would think they were crazy. However it just takes that one person to come forward.

We all get those gut feelings but some pass it off as just that, only a feeling. I believe you should always go with your first gut feeling as this is a message to heed off danger or to even follow something that may be greater than anything you have ever known.

We fear the unknown but today its what we know that leaves us in fear.

something is out there, way beyond our understanding, and its up to us to listen to it or pass by a chance that may have something so powerful in our lives we miss it.

Blessings

Laurie

Nell Rose (author) from England on October 06, 2013:

I totally agree with you Au fait, I do think there is something to the stories, but something so different that we will all be surprised. I read the bible but try to see it as a historical book as well as religious. If we really look at what was written you can see how we would interpret it differently. I actually wondered if the word Angels were in fact another word for soldiers back then! I know it sounds odd, but we have to look at the bigger picture sometimes, thanks so much for reading, nell

C E Clark from North Texas on October 05, 2013:

What a lot of interesting situations you have written about here!

I believe we all have telepathy in varying degrees just like we all have the ability to produce music, art, or engage in other activities with varying skill. I don't think telepathy should be mixed up with any kind of telekinesis -- the ability to move objects with no physical effort.

The angels in paintings are generally the imagination of the artist, not realistic reproductions of real angels. If you read in the Bible about when the disciples and the 2 Marys approached Jesus' tomb on the morning that He rose from the dead, they were confronted by angels guarding the tomb. They were scared to death and even fainted from the sight of the angels of heaven. The true angels as described in the Bible are not sweet cherubs or regal beings with wings. They are fearsome to see (Matthew 28).

I do also believe we each have our own guardian angel and I have been saved by an unseen power myself on at least one occasion. I believe it was an angel though I have no proof to offer.

There are also the evil angels who follow and serve Satan. Lots of people believe in Jesus yet they think Satan is fiction, and there are also people who only believe in humans.

The Bible includes stories about angels who appeared to different people as humans themselves but in fact were not.

Such an interesting hub with lots of food for thought. I especially enjoyed reading about your mother's experiences. I think when the truth is discovered one of these days about why these strange things happen, it will surprise everyone. I do not know the answer, but I think it will be completely different from what people have considered so far -- just a hunch I have.

Voted up, interesting, pinned to my 'Unsolved Mysteries' board, and will share with my followers. A great and interesting hub!

Hi skiffskoff, thanks for commenting, I appreciate different opinions, and yes you may well be right. A lot of so called 'intervention' may just be purely psychological, or a fascinating look at how the human psychy works, maybe we want to have Guardian Angels it may make us feel safer, thanks

skiffskoff on June 16, 2012:

so the guy that got hit, instead of the lady and her kid-stroller, where was his guardian angel? Or even his six sense? What about his family and babies that may live fatherless? God forbid the man be pushing a baby stroller of his own...

Come on let's face it, real bad things happen to both good and bad people, and well, really good things happen to both as well.

The science behind this I can lend thought to, but divine intervention isn't something I believe in. God could be there, but maybe has never said a word or intervened in anyway. Which kinda fits what we see with so many different religions, from different times, or ones that keep coming up in different forms with the same characters but different names, etc. Also why bad things happen to good people, and vice versa.

Cindy Lawson from Guernsey (Channel Islands) on April 27, 2012:

Yes - I have personally felt the strength and support from a source I can only think of as The Angels. I feel there are forces around us that, if we are open to it, we can tap into and allow to help us when we are in need. My mom believes. Her email address has the word angel in it, and then a random number after it. When she signed up -the system gave her some weird number so she calls that her angel number :-) I believe most of the time. But sometimes coincidences do happen. And even if you have an angel-still sometimes things won't go the way you would have chose. Angels work in mysterious ways :-) Great hub, Nell.

Tim Mitchell from Escondido, CA on April 20, 2012:

Hello Nell. :) I'm smiling thinking of bunches. I like what you have shared. Bringing many thoughts to mind and enjoying reading others experiences too!

What comes to mind is the movie with John Travolta - Michael. Particularly the scene when he goes dancing and he smells like cinnamon to one and something else to others. A great scene with the soundtrack by Aretha Franklin.

Another is the movie with Nicholas Cage & Meg Ryan - City of Angels. Sounding odd, I really don't believe in Angels, since I know there are Angels.

(Long Pause) - I think I will reread your article :)

This is beautiful. I have seen too much to not believe in angels. This past Christmas my family and I went to a very elaborate church service with an astounding choir. They began to sing and my then 2.5 year old daughter got very excited and stared at the balcony. She started saying angels, angels.. She never used this word before. It made me cry in church. I believe!

Hi Nell, Thankyou for sharing your Hub, I'd just like to add that years ago I had to go into hospital to have a major operation, and at the time I was working to pay my rent, I was so worried that I wouldn't heal in time to get back to work. That night, as I lay in bed, half asleep half awake, I turned and there stood the most beautiful Angel with wings, she was pretty, blonde, and all I saw was this face and wings and then she was gone the minute I saw her!.....It was a sign that all would be right and she would be looking after me, and I was, and back to work in time. There was another occasion when I was married, but I am going to write about it in my hub. It's about a demon that came to me in an icon.

I KNOW there are angels, and demons, and no one on this earth will every tell me otherwise.

Nell Rose (author) from England on February 01, 2012:

Hi, Minnetonka, that's an amazing and wonderful story, I am so glad your sister saw your mum, that must be such a comfort, I have dreamt of my mum saying we are fine, but maybe it was just a dream? who knows, thanks nell

Linda Rogers from Minnesota on January 31, 2012:

Hi Nell-I loved this hub because it's comforting to think there are angels that watch over us. I believe in angels because my late parents, brother and other visits have happened to me. None of us will know exactly how much is our brains versus the spiritual angel but either way, it's comforting. My twin sister was awakened one night shortly after our mother died. She saw a bright light coming towards our bedroom. Once the light came into the room, it took shape and was our mother in a white wispy flowing dress. She told Laura that all five of us kids would be ok. She died of alcoholism and my dad at that time was still drinking heavy. We had tough times but knowing mom came to tell us it would all be ok and work out, was very healing and comforting then and years after.

Hi, Cyndi, the whole thing just fascinates me! ever since I was a child, I have had strange experiences, and now I try and see them in a scientific way, but sometimes you can't catagorise them, thanks again nell

Cynthia B Turner from Georgia on January 14, 2012:

You have had some very interesting experiences with the extraordinary. Glad they have been, for the most part, positive for you and that you have the gift of being able to write about them to share with others.

Hi, SimpleGifts, that sounds really fascinating about the Angel in the road, amazing! thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! cheers nell

SimpleGiftsofLove from Colorado on November 23, 2011:

Great hub about a great mystery. I had a similar experience with an angel in the road. She looked sad. And then she was gone. I have had other encounters, one at a filling station, many in situations where I know my life was saved. Up and interesting as always! Have a lovely Thanksgiving!

Hi, Jennifer, I am so glad you found it helpful, I really do believe that we get help sometimes in times of need, and thanks so much for reading, cheers nell

Jennifer Essary from Idaho on November 23, 2011:

Excellent Hub Nell! I stumbled across your profile and at first I couldn't decide which Hub to read; they all look terrific. After reading some of the titles I chose this one in hopes that I could share it with a friend who is going through a tough time right now. She and I both believe in signs, angels, and intuition. Voted up and sharing.

This is a beautiful article Nell. I am using it as a backlink in the article I am posting later today. I wrote about my guardian angel experience. Perhaps you may be interested in reading it.

Great hub Nell. I like to believe that something always has our back. In times like today, Lord knows we need it. I can say one was with my son when he was born. I know he was watched over. Powering and moving hub Nell.

Hi, chspublish, thanks for reading, I know what you mean about certain people, they seem to appear just when you need them, It does make me wonder sometimes! thanks nell

Hi, Kari, maybe you did? our gut feelings are a strange thing, they must come from somewhere, and Angels seem like a good explanation, at least I think so! lol I would love to believe it, thanks nell

Kari_24 on July 18, 2011:

Loved this Hub :) Ever since I was a child I have believed in Angels. I swear up and down I used to see them as a child, as well. To this day, I think I hear things that aren't there or I have "gut" feelings about things and make an opposite decision.

chspublish from Ireland on July 17, 2011:

Angels or not, we have to feel blessed and special from time to time while we are here. It's hard to know what or who helps us at times. I have met, on occasion and unexpectedly of course, people who seem extraordinary in their kindness and helpfulness, who seem to possess a kind of knowing, who look right into my being and have me think they are 'special' messengers, special people. Are these 'angels' - people with 'extra' ordinariness, who go beyond the call of duty and share their humanity in a way that is breathtaking and inspiring?

Thanks for the hub and for provoking such a great response from so many - truly inspiring.

Hi, smith, I think you are right, it is one of those things that some people believe and others don't, but there is definitely something going on! thanks so much nell

smith624 from Raceland, louisiana on June 25, 2011:

Absolutely. I have been told many stories of people seeing angels in time of need. Although I have not had this experience, I think GOD does send us the help of his angels when He knows there is a need for them.

Nell Rose (author) from England on June 24, 2011:

Hi, Jama, thanks again, I really appreciate all your reading, I do know what you mean, it was like today, for some reason I got all dressed up in my 'work' clothes, just to go down the town, I never questioned it, just did it, as my brain told me to do! lol and lo and behold, there was a boutique job, just being put in the window, and I went straight in! she has taken my number, and we will have to wait and see!

Joanna McKenna from Central Oklahoma on June 24, 2011:

There are so many things we don't understand about our access to other dimensions that "unexplainable" events could be explained by any of the possibilities you describe.

My own cosmic assistants - can't really call them "angels" - tend to be mostly utilitarian by nature. Keeping me out of stressful situations rather than yanking me from death's door. My car keys will mysteriously disappear from their normal spot, and by the time I've found them (in a place *I* couldn't possibly have put them), I'll have missed being stuck in a traffic jam on the freeway. Or a car will *just* be backing out of the parking spot closest to the store I'm going to, saving me having to drive round and round the block. That sort of thing.

Hi, Polly, don't worry, everybodys opinion is great! we all think differently, to be quite honest, I have no idea why or what happens sometimes when we get help or feel as though we do, in the book I am reading, she states that her idea of Angels is either, the real type Angel or even our own Spirits, which she just puts under the same title, it could well be our own brains that are helping us, somehow, who knows? but the idea is a lovely one, Angels being around, thanks again nell

Pollyannalana from US on June 22, 2011:

I apologize Nell, I was discussing the angel thing with my husband and years back we studied the bible together and although I knew of the scripture about helping people out for you may be entertaining Angels unaware but he has informed me that an angel freed one of the apostles (he thinks Peter) from prison so I am so wrong, there are visiting Angels today although it would be my opinion that this would be for a reason and something to think about. The Holy Spirit inside us is for our sake and faith in living but if a physical thing needs done He would still need or for whatever reason, use, an angel? It would keep miracles and magic well separated. Worth looking into if I ever get an extra minute. So just wanted to say sorry to God and you, and so glad to know this is true. I want to believe in today Angels, I do, I do! So now I can.

Enjoyed your hub. I believe in angels and often talk to them. I also believe that when your time comes your time comes and not even an angel will be able to help you it's God's will.

Ashantina on June 19, 2011:

I believe there are Angels looking out for us... Ive experienced it in my own life sooo many times and I am truly grateful to these guardian beings for protecting me and guiding me, with this great energy of love and selflessness, through messages from people, circumstances and events.

They are v real.

Up/beautiful

Liz Elias from Oakley, CA on June 19, 2011:

It's all about manifesting the powers of the universe by means of positive thought and drawing energy from the cosmos.

There is also something to be said about the 'self-trance' when we go on "autopiolot," as mentioned by the previous commenter--even my psych prof. spoke about that...you know, when you're driving home over a familiar route, and all of a sudden, you're 3 miles down the road closer to home, and don't remember seeing your usual landmarks....

An angel can also be just a person who happens into your life when you need them most...my current husband is my personal angel; my soulmate. ;-)

As for any other kind of "angels," I don't believe in angels...or demons either. Like angels (positive energy), demons are simply bad sprit energy/negative thoughts or nasty, evil people (think Hitler, et al).

Interesting hub--voted up.

CMHypno from Other Side of the Sun on June 18, 2011:

Hi Nell, interesting hub. When we go on autopilot we are actually in a hypnotic trance, so our subconscious mind is in control - and it can do a better than our conscious minds! But I also believe in divine protection and that we get help from our guides and loved ones in the spirit world.

Wayne Brown from Texas on June 18, 2011:

There have been enough experiences in my life to say that either angels or some combination of angels and the subconscious mind are at work. Sometimes when I decide to pick up a particular item or take a particular route if that choice is a "life-changing" choice. It always makes me stop and think but seldom do I redo my choice. Thanks for a stimulating discussion on this subject. WB

Another great write up Nell Rose. I believe in angels. I believe that all of us have an angel inside of us that wants to reach out to help others.
