Bible Verses on Letting Go and Moving Forward

In order to move forward to an abundant life and the life God has called us to live, there must be a process of letting go. What exactly do we have to let go off. Everyone has their personal journey of finding out the things in their own life, their past, the deep struggles that they need to let go off. Here are bible verses to aid in that journey of knowing God's perfect plan and love.

Your Past may have been a bad childhood experience, (physical, sexual, verbal abuse), lack of love and nurturing from parents, lack of affirmation from loved ones, moving from foster homes, a bad marriage, divorce, drug addiction, alcoholism, the death of loved one, gambling problems, financial problems. Even though your past may have been like this, your today's and tomorrow's does not have to be like that and you should not be defined by your past.

Isaiah 61:7

For your shame you shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

Philippians 3:13-14

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

God the Father has a specific plan and destiny for every individual who will come to Him and fully surrender their entire lives into His hands. But it would be quite difficult to press forward and into the high calling of God unless you first learn to let go of your past.

Isaiah 43:17

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.Behold, I (God) will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

John 10:10

The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Song of Solomon 2:11-12

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

Psalm 37:1-7

Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be envious against the workers of iniquity.2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed.4 Delight yourself also in the Lord: and he shall give you the desires of your heart.5 Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.6 And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not your because of him who prospereth in his way.

Hebrews 12:1-2

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Letting Go of Unforgiveness

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Forgiveness Hub

To forgive is to release and let it go. It has very little to do with how we feel or even trust. Forgiveness is a decision to let go of our regrets and our right to punish another and gain justice on our own. As God forgives us, we should have a merciful, gracious attitude toward others.

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retains not his anger for ever, because he delights in mercy.
He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18-19)

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Romans 12:19)

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. (Luke 6:35-36)

Let Go of the bitterness, anger, resentment and retaliation for a much peaceful life.

We also need to forgive ourselves for unwholesome and unwise decisions we made in the past and to stop blaming ourselves. As God forgives us, we should forgive ourselves.

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. (Hebrews 8:12)

We should choose with God's help to make choices that please and glorify our Heavenly Father. We should also be patient with ourselves and strive to do the best we can and to improve our life and relationship with God and others by learning from our mistakes.

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered. (Proverbs 28:26)

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Philippians 4:6-8

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.7 And the peace of God, which passess all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he (God) careth for you.

Matthew 6:25

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Proverbs 3:5,6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

Proverbs 4:25-27

Let your eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove your foot from evil.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.12 Then shall you call upon me, and you shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.13 And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.

Another way we can let go and move forward is to 'Let Go of Comparing Yourself with Others.' This can include comparing your life with others, comparing your relationships with others comparing your job, salary, children, appearance, house, possessions, spouse, clothes, accomplishments, hard times with other people's life.

Let Go of thinking that everyone has a better life than you or that you have a better life than anyone. Appreciate your life, your blessings, yourself and the journey you are on.

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. (II Corinthians 10:12)

Galatians 1:10

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Neither shall you desire your neighbor's wife, neither shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is your neighbor's.

Philippians 2:14-15

Do all things without murmurings and disputings:That you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world;
