Ali Yakubov: 9 Month Old Russian Boy With Quran On Body

A 9-month old Russian baby boy has left doctors baffled in Dagestan, Russia after phrases from the holy Koran (Quran) began appearing on his skin.

These sayings from the Islamic holy book are said to appear on nine-month-old Ali Yakubov's back, arms, legs and stomach, before fading away and being replaced with new sayings.

Ali's parents were left stunned when the word Allah appeared on Ali Yakubov's chin soon after his birth. Since then scores of writings in the Arabic script have appeared almost all over his body. Medics have denied that the marks are from someone writing on the child's skin.

The kid's mother, Madina Yakubov, said that she and her husband were not religious until the words started appearing on his skin.

Ever since the phenomenon started, the boy has become a focus of Muslim homage in his home province of Dagestan, close to war-ravaged Chechnya in the south of Russia.

Local MP Akhmedpasha Amiralaev said: "This boy is a pure sign of God. Allah sent him to Dagestan in order to stop revolts and tension in our republic."

The mother of Ali Yakubov said, "Normally those signs appear twice a week - on Mondays and on the nights between Thursdays and Fridays.

"Ali always feels bad when it is happening. He cries and his temperature goes up."

It is impossible to hold him when it is happening, his body is actively moving, so we put him into his cradle. It;s so hard to watch him suffering."

Update: Journalists and thousands of Muslims flock to Ali Yakubov's town

Thousands of Muslim pilgrims are flocking to the home of the 9-month-old boy Ali Yakubov in Russia's southern republic of Dagestan to see the verses from the Koran that seem to appear and fade on his body every few days. Religious leaders in Dagestan say the verse "Be thankful or grateful to God" appeared on Ali Yakubov's right leg in Arabic script earlier this week, according to Reuters. By the time foreign journalists had arrived, the verse had faded to a single letter.

Update #2: Wahabis promised to burn down house of Ali Yakubov

Wahabis have reportedly been threatening to burn down the house of Shamil and Madina Yakubov, the parents of the Russian baby boy Ali Yakubov with Quranic Verses on his body who is from the Dagestan village of Krasnooktyabrskoye.

"They found it only unnatural that Allah showed his signs through a Russian boy born with Arabic writings on legs and arms and rest of his body, in a family of a police officer! Wahabis consider us kafirun (the unbelievers - IF)," Magomed-Kadyr, the boy's grandfather said as quoted by Komsomolskaya Pravda daily on Monday.

I found a new Ali Yakubov news update on a Turkish website. However, the website translator is not doing a great job at translating it into English, so I've left it up as it is, in Turkish.

Update #4: December 9th, 2009 - Russian Boy with Quran on Body Disappeared?

Update: December 9th, 2009. It seems as if this story has vanished off the face of the planet. I have searched all the major news sources and none have reported any new developments after November 1st.

Let us not resort to making assumptions as to why the family has gone silent all of a sudden, but rather pray for the little boy, Ali Yakubov, and hope he is in good health.

If anything does pop up regarding this, I'll be sure to post an update on this page.

Update: It is now January 12, 2010 and there are no new reports or news about this story. Let's hope the boy Ali Yakubov and his family are in good health.

Still no updates as of July 23, 2010.

Controversy: Ali Yakubov a hoax?

Another "balloon boy" like incident, only much more severe?

Inscriptions of Prophet Muhammad regarded with the same reverence as the Quran appear and then disappear on the body of a nine-month-old child born in a small village of Krasno-Oktyabrskoye, the Republic of Dagestan, RIA Novosti news agency reports.

According to a representative of a local musk, the signs in Arab first appeared on the body of the new-born Ali Yakubov a few days after his birth.

The child's mother, Madina Yakubova, said that the boy was born with a hematoma on his chin, and when the bruise healed, the word 'Allah' written in Arab appeared.

"The inscriptions appear on Mondays and Fridays, the boy runs very high temperature and cries. The inscriptions gradually disappear after three days and then new ones appear," the mother said.

The parents did not tell anyone about this until they saw the inscription saying 'Show these signs to people.' The woman added that Ali was her second child, and this never happened to her daughter.

A representative of Dagestan Spiritual Governance for Muslims did not provide any comments. He said he was surprised like everyone else.

The imam of the village musk believes that these signs are "God's signs."

Medics do not believe in religious miracles, of course. Ludmila Luss, a local doctor, believes that the story with the inscriptions is masterminded by the boy's parents, Utro.ru website wrote.

"They might have treated his skin with irritants, such as pepper and salt, or medications, which trigger skin inflammation and leave red traces in the shape of Arabic characters," she said.

The parents may not have used any substances or medications, if the child suffers from urticarial dermographism, also known as skin writing, - a skin disorder that occurs with five percent of the nation's population. It is one of the most common types of urticaria, in which the skin becomes raised and inflamed when stroked or rubbed with a dull object. Therefore, if the child has such a disorder, writing anything on his skin is a piece of cake.

"Some people suffering from gastric pathologies have extremely sensitive skin. If you draw something on their skin with a little stick, for example, the drawing will later appear," Ludmila Luss said.

In the meantime, the clergy of the Northern Caucasus do not doubt that the boy is a divine phenomenon.

anonymous on January 09, 2013:

@anonymous: 5. As a medical professional, you must certainly be aware that dermatographism presents differently in different people.

6. Dermatographism isn't the only cause, or even the most likely cause.

7. The parents' unwillingness to have him scrutinized by the scientific and medical communities is evidence of a hoax as well as child abuse

8. To induce skin abrasions and fevers definitively warrants the child being taken from his parents.

9. The only miracle I can find here is the unprecedented amount of unadulterated idiots eager to accept blatant child abuse as a sign from Allah

10. Finally, IF this is a miracle of Allah, then Allah is an awful, heinous, evil god to make an innocent infant suffer such as he does and not worthy of being worshipped.

Do you not think that if 'god' was going to give us a sign, it would be a little more spectacular than writing on a Russian baby?

For this to be taken seriously there would need to be rigourous tests, done in public, with the child constantly monitered. If they still appear then I'd question what was happening.

It's a sign from the Goddess, Eris. All hail the Discordian way. Mischief, mayhem and discord are not optional. Booya.

I am a very clever scientist. I believe this MUST be a miracle because God speaks to the gullible, the ignorant, the stupid, the easily conned, the uneducated, the fools, those who can't think for themselves, those who WON'T think for themselves.

anonymous on January 23, 2011:

@anonymous: That is the problem with Islam, I was very unfortunate to be born into a muslim family, i was forced to have certain ideals in the muslim was from childhood, only when i grew older and reached my teens i started to think for myself, i realised most people have strong muslim valuee and identities because they have no choice and its instilled into them from a young age. Anyway I find it disgusting that you should actively encourage people who do not have the same belief system as you to disregard everything they believe in and turn to your path. Who gives you the right, I am sure and I have even witnessed this, if anyone tries to show a muslim that they might be wrong and should consider changing their faith, they go beserk, accusing them of all sorts.

I have been fortunate to have developed a very logical mind, and in my honest opinion vast majority of events and anomilies can be explained in a rational way, those that cannot be exlained at the moment does not mean they cannot be explained at some time in the future as we learn more and more. you just have to look at our past and see how primitive we were 500 years ago, even as early at 200 years ago, we know now things we could have never known then, to the people of 500 years ago, things we take for granted could be interpereted as magic, devine, impossible. things like tv;s, ipods, ps3's. I am pretty certain with technology taken from the shelf now, i could pass off as a god or messenger in the year 1000 ad. So people in short, keep your faiths to yourself.

anonymous on January 23, 2011:

@anonymous: you must be the worst doctor ever, the mother says he suffers from a fever when it happens, there have not been any independent reports confirming this, if the mother and father are perpetrating a hoax its only reasonable to assume that the mother is not entirely truthful about the fever. your only argument seems to be based on this misinformation, please do some proper research before you spout garbage, are u even a medical doctor?

anonymous on January 12, 2011:

@anonymous: The parents SAY the child suffers from fevers and cries, but as I imagine no one but his parents sees him when these writings supposedly appear, the symptoms could also be fabricated for plausibility.

anonymous on January 09, 2011:

This can not be dermatographism as I myself a professional medical doctor have this skin condition dermatographism or "skin writing", This is my research:

1: On basic medical evaluations dermatographism "skin writing" Do Not cause FEVER! Increase in body temperature! (as the boy Ali always has).

2: Symptoms of dermatographism is painless with rare itches. The boys symptoms always include fever and crying which indicates of not being well, his body is having a more severe reactions internally. His mother describes this as he´s suffering!

3. I could go on with more medical evidence that would differ dermatographism as I myself have with this reactions of the infants body of writings from the Holy Quran (Truly words from Allah, The Only one God).

4. I truly faithfully believe that this is a message from God (Allah) to the mankind.

@Abseaz LM: Ancient Arabic did not have the small symbols to denote vowel pronunciation. It was only consonants. The text here has small symbols. This has to raise a suspicion. The Infinite God of the Universe is too Great to show a sign by causing irritation in an innocent baby, when He can write Arabic in sky, or Lunar Surface (like symbols in Nazca in Peru) for His Greatness and Level.
