Adam & Eve: Multiply and Replenish

Sometimes writers distance themselves from religious subjects when writing. Religion is still taboo to speak about. Read about it instead.

Together, Adam and Eve represent the crowning creation of God, mankind. This high esteem given to the human family is in part because God made humanity in the likeness of Himself. Eyes and ears, He gave them. Mouths and noses gave He to them. Legs, arms, and parts worthy of Himself gave God to these creatures He calls His children.

Not only did they look like gods, but they have the power to act like Gods. When they acted contrarily to the laws of God and partook of fruit poisonous to their systems, death entered the equation where they exercised the power to act as gods knowing good from evil with the power to choose the good and live with God again.

Telling, it is, that Adam and Eve acted as gods in favor of the commands of God until they partook of the fruit. There is no definitive time-length they spent in the Garden before going out into the lone dreary world. It could be minutes or eons. People of integrity, Adam and Eve did not falter from God when He told them to make His word known to their children and to kept His ordinances and statutes.

With this power to act called agency, humanity could learn step-by-step how to become like God and take their place in the presence of God from the Plan of Salvation presented to Adam and Eve in their premortal and mortal lives.

Adam and Eve's injunction to Multiply and Replenish the world was one of the four commandments God gave:

  1. Do be industrious, fruitful
  2. Do not eat the forbidden fruit
  3. Do oversee the Garden and the Earth
  4. Do populate the Earth with people

Time & Eternity

Adam and Eve had a unified covenant relationship, married for all time and eternity in Eden. When they were punished with expulsion from the Garden, God did not change the other blessing bestowed upon them. Adam and Eve's marriage was not adjusted to death do they part.

All of their children would be linked to them forever due to that marriage covenant with God. Because of this binding covenant of love, God's word to teach the gospel to their offspring engendered more urgency because the children had claim on them as did they on God for the truth.

Marriage was never meant to be for time only, but forever. With priesthood authority from God, marriage ceremonies like Adam and Eve's are the right of each human born on Earth. Agency is the only thing that can and has interfered with that sacred blessing going to each of the people of humanity.

Posterity, The Human Family

Adam and Eve had children, many children, who, as they grew, began to pair off in marriage and produce children themselves. Several groupings of children came into being who produced children as Adam and Eve continued to produce along with them!

It is important to note that no other group of humans existed with the family of Adam who did not owe their existence to Adam and Eve. Again, Adam and Eve are the grandparents of all humankind making all living humans relatives, cousins.

Adam is the first of a long line of humans on this planet, but he is not the first human ever to exist. However, he is the only human to which all humans on this planet owes existence.

Interestingly, all religious notions pieced together about the first humans on this planet approach to the truth because all humanity began with one family and branched out from there. It happened twice, once with Adam and Eve and again with Noah and his wife, three sons, and three daughters-in-law. The difference of those experiences is the existence of four couples to repopulate the Earth rather that one to replenish it.

One Human Family

Dr. Robert L. Millet, a professor of ancient scripture and emeritus Dean of Religious Education at Brigham Young University in Provo, wrote;

When it came time to begin our second estate, it was appropriate for God our Father to call upon Michael to receive a tabernacle of flesh and become earth’s first inhabitant. Luke’s genealogy of Jesus ends with a noble description of Adam, “the son of God.” speaks of the preeminence of Adam, which by default includes the glorious Eve.

Humanity's first inhabitant of the earth was Adam, then came Eve, and then the rest of humanity. It is conceivable that uncles married nieces and cousins married each other because there existed no other humans that did not come from Adam and Eve. The bloodline was clean and disease did not exist upon the earth as virulently pervasive in the time of our first parents as it does now. Again, the operative phrase regarding Adam as offered by Moses in Genesis and Robert Millet agree that Adam appeared in mortality as Earth's First Inhabitant.

The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force.

— “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”

No other humans lived outside of the union of Adam and Eve's family.

Brothers married sisters. In today's society, incest is against the law and is considered an abomination under God's law. In the beginning, it was not so!

Many philosophers and scientist attempt to explain the existence of dinosaurs and the fossil record of pre-Adamic life of humanoids. The truth of the matter is these people speculate because they lack knowledge that they could acquire from God. God created the world and all things on it. He knows the answers to the questions the irreligious and religious speculate about. God has not revealed from where dinosaurs have come, but He has revealed where humans originated on this Earth.

The problem with the speculative detractors of the existence of Adam and Eve is that they acknowledge the God-concept by using words like 'pre-Adamic' but deny the possibility that God, in truth, exists. In this manner, it is easy to dismiss the creation and the Edenic experience as fiction.

Moses testified of the creation of the world and its people in the book attributed to him, Genisis. Also, other scriptures corroborate Moses's story due to extra-Biblical writers and their experiences independent of Moses's theophany.

The Judeo-Christian-Islamic concept of Adam and Eve as the first humans is correct and all other concepts are incorrect. Other philosophies are manmade. Other religious interpretations are distorted or expressly incorrect about the origins of humanity.

Adam's transgression (and Eve's) is his own and does not apply to humanity in general; therefore, the idea of original sin is a farce--a misunderstanding of what Adam and Eve experienced in the Garden.

Perspective

Genesis 1:28-31

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Now that injunction is binding on all of the seed of Adam and Eve until God says "It is finished!" The verses reveal so much potential information but four things stand out, four commandments God gave to Eve the woman and Adam the Man, 3 does and a don't:

  1. Do be industrious, fruitful
  2. Do Not eat the forbidden fruit
  3. Do oversee the Garden and the Earth
  4. Do Populate the Earth with people

Not only does a ceremony needs performing by a man with the authority to seal things on earth and in heaven to make relationships eternal, but there is also a caveat. The late Elder Robert Hales, an apostle in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said the following about family and its eternal nature:

How we conduct ourselves in this life will determine what we will be in all the eternities to come. To receive the blessings of the sealing that our Heavenly Father has given to us, we have to keep the commandments and conduct ourselves in such a way that our families will want to live with us in the eternities. The family relationships we have here on this earth are important, but they are much more important for their effect on our families for generations in mortality and throughout all eternity...

By divine commandment, spouses are required to love each other above all others. The Lord clearly declares, “Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else” (D&C 42:22). 1

As did Adam and Eve, all of God's children have the privilege to enter into that holy marriage covenant that lasts for eternity and produce children born in an eternal covenant linking family all the way back to Adam and down to the latest generation as disciples of Jesus Christ. "Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward." [Palms 127:3 Berean Study Bible]. Families are meant to be one of those things sealed in heaven and on earth. Because of Adam and Eve's marriage, all of humanity is united together as their family.
