Have You Ever Experienced the Paranormal?

Mom & Dad in Signal Hill California

Mom & Dad in California

Mom & Dad in California

Ghosts in California

Mom, was in the hospital and, because we did not know the whereabouts of our father my grandparents came and took us home with them, then when Mom got out of the hospital she left the three of us with our grandparents and, moved to South Bend, Indiana and had gotten a job at H.D. Lee Company to save enough money to come for me and my two brothers and, take us to live with her and her new husband.

Mammaw and Pampa is what we called our grandparents. Mammaw and Pampa now would have six of their grandchildren, because my Aunt Sue also left her three children with them.

Living on a farm is a lot of work, there were cows, pigs, chickens and horses to be fed and, all six of us sharing the chores and worked together. We all learned to chop wood, hoe cotton and corn. Then we would gather the corn, shuck and shell it to feed the livestock. We all picked cotton and, we would go to the gin in town. Pampa would have the cotton ginned, baled and weighed, and Pampa would get paid.

Finally, the day came when Mom came for us. I can still see the green Plymouth pulling up in front of the farmhouse.

Mom had married a man she met at work and they were there to take us to live with them. Dad (our stepfather) was a wonderful father to the three of us. I can still hear him telling stories to my brothers at bedtime, and they would always say, tell us one more story, just one more, please.

Moving from Indiana to California

We moved to South Bend, Indiana with Mom and our new dad in late summer and that fall we started school. The following June, on the last day of school we came home to a packed up car and, an empty house. The furniture had been sold and left South Bend for parts unknown.

Mom and Dad had both quit their jobs when we were leaving South Bend. We traveled all summer from coast to coast and when we arrived in California, the family was almost broke and did not have enough for housing; we pitched a tent on the beach and slept there at night and by day Dad looked for a job while we played on the beach during the day. After about a week Dad found a job, in Long Beach and, after his first paycheck we went apartment hunting.

Apartments were so expensive that when we found a house that rented for less than any apartment, we were so elated.

The house, a small three bedroom house was neat and freshly painted inside and out, with new hardwood floors. It was in a small community near Signal Hill with some oil wells that were still working and looked like giant grasshoppers.

At the time Signal Hill was a small town surrounded by Long Beach. Signal Hill is a beautiful park on a hill and, in every direction overlooks Long Beach/Los Angeles. It is said that if you park at the bottom the hill with the car in neutral it will roll uphill.

Dad and Mom the day after we moved into the house in California. You can see the oil wells where we found the pigeon.

Dad and Mom the day after we moved into the house in California. You can see the oil wells where we found the pigeon.

Our new pet was a ball of fur

After a few days dad had decided to get us a new pet, so off we went to the local pet store. We walked into the pet store and a little ball of fur, seemed to come rolling across the floor towards us. It was love at first sight. Dad bought the little Cockapoo, (Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix).

The next day we were trying to find a name for our cute ball of fur. The three of us were out scouting out the neighborhood. When we were passing an oil slick, we found a pigeon, so we picked it up and took it home to Mom. Mom put the pigeon in a pan of warm water and some Pine-sol, but the bird still could not fly and, I don’t remember how it happened but, the pigeon was riding on the dog’s back, and went into the doghouse with her. That is how the ball of fur got the name Pigeon.

For the next week or so, we enjoyed our new home. I had the small bedroom about an 8 foot by 8 foot; my brothers shared a little larger bedroom on the other side of the house; Mom and Dad the master bedroom in the back of the house.

Pigeon was not fully house broken and we put paper down for her just outside the door to my room. I would leave the door open just enough for Pigeon to go to the paper when she needed to go.

Things that go bump in the night

At first I was not sure if I heard something or not, I had been jarred out of my sleep, I strained to see in the dim glow of the night light. I could not see Pigeon; she had been sleeping on the foot of my bed, now she was not there. Suddenly the light came on and Mom was standing by my door and she had Pigeon in her arms and Pigeon was shaking. What happened? Mom asked, Pigeon was scratching on our door and whimpering..

I told Mom about the bump, and I was not sure if had dreamed it. Mom put Pigeon down on the foot of my bed and, immediately she jumped down and ran like something was chasing her and, the paper floated a few feet from where it had been placed.

By this time everyone was awake and up. I grabbed my pillow and blanket and spent the rest of the night in the living room on the couch with Pigeon on the foot of the bottom bunk of my brother.

The next day, we decided that I had heard something in a dream but, that did not explain why Pigeon still refused to go in my bedroom. The next night I went to sleep in my bedroom and Pigeon slept on the foot of brother’s bed.

Scroll to Continue

All was well for the next few nights, then in the middle of the night, I was Jolted out of my sleep, by a big bump, I lay there frozen, not knowing if I should get up and turn on the lights or what. Then like the first time I heard the bump, Mom switched on the light, then we were all standing in the living room, and we all heard the noise, the sound of something being dragged across the floor overhead, but there was no floor just the attic.

Mom laughed and said we must have rats in the attic. Everybody went back to bed and, when morning came we were in for a shock. From under the crown molding some kind of liquid was running down the walls in the living room, staining the walls in reddish brown streaks. Dad went to have a look in the attic and found the pull down steps had been nailed shut. He pulled the nails and climbed the steps, he was not gone for very long and when he came down, he put the nails back and told us that the only thing up there was dust, but that day we went looking for an apartment, and we slept in the new apartment that night on air mattresses on the floor. We heard that the house was torn down shortly after we moved.

I don’t know if I believe in ghosts, never having seen one but, something was definitely not right, some kind of paranormal energy was in that house and, I don’t think it was good.

Thought I'd see if I could bring some attention to this story since Halloween is just a week away. Perfect for Halloween because it's not only scary, but TRUE!

Posting this to FB & AH

Blessings, dear friend. Stay safe . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on April 19, 2020:

I think I'm experiencing the paranormal now, as are we all with this sociopath in charge of our country, Can only hope once we drive out the demon that things will come back to normal, but I fear it will be a new normal less desirable than our previous normal.

Posting this article to FB & AH.

Glad you survived this event you've written about and I hope we all somehow get through the terrible things that have come to pass since Trump was elected. Blessings dear friend. Be safe.

C E Clark from North Texas on October 22, 2019:

Halloween is now only 9 days away. This is a great story to read if a person wants a scary story. Knowing it's a true story and could therefore happen again to someone else should make it a great Halloween story. Posting this to FB & AH.

Hope you're enjoying our cooler weather. Blessings, dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on October 04, 2019:

Now Halloween is just 27 days away. This is an excellent story for that night. Super scary because it isn't just another story. It really happened, and knowing that things like this can really happen is super scary.

Hope all is well wih you. Be safe and healthy. Blessings, dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on October 04, 2019:

Now Halloween is just 27 days from today. This is an excellent story for that night, because it is super scary -- due to the fact that it is true, and not just a story someone made up.

Hope all is well with you. Be safe and healthy. Blessings . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on September 04, 2019:

Halloween is about 2 months away and I thought I'd post this story to FB and Awesome HubPages earlier than I usually do so that maybe more people would read it. I think this is one of the scariest stories I've ever read, and it's all due to being a true story, as I mentioned in my most recent comment.

Blessings dear friend. I hope all is well . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on October 30, 2018:

Going to praise this story one more time because tomorrow is Halloween and there's nothing scarier than a story like this that is true. It's one thing to tell stories that in all likelihood have never happened and are just someone's imagination in an effort to scare themselves or others, but this one really is scary and it's due to the fact that it's true.

So glad you got out of this house before something horrible happened to you or another family member. Take care dear friend . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on October 19, 2018:

Hoping to bring attention to this excellent article again since Halloween is so close. I think it's a pretty scary story myself, most of all, because it is true. If people only knew all of the strange, unexplainable things that exist, and occur all the time in this world of ours! This one you've written about is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Hope you are well dear friend. Blessings . . .

C E Clark from North Texas on October 15, 2018:

With Halloween so close, this is a great story for that night. I'm sorry it's a true story because it would seem to have been a close call for you and your family.

Unfortunately, with Trump in charge, we're having our worst Halloween everyday and it's become run of the mill. Will be nice when our modern "Dark Ages" is over.

Take care dear friend and stay warm.

C E Clark from North Texas on July 04, 2018:

Think we've all been experiencing the paranormal since Trump was elected. Evil does its best work from within the church, and from within any organization, such as our government. Anyone who would torture babies and toddlers and children of any age is clearly evil as are that person's supporters who condone such actions.

I really hope these people who try to masquerade as Christians will wake up before it's too late. Torturing children is not Christian -- EVER. Conservatives seem to be letting the world know that they have no moral standing and will do anything, and I do mean anything, for the sake of money and material things. Things that have no value in God's world, and so the collection of these 'things' by any means possible, will only serve to convict them both here and in the next life. But it seems clear these evil ones don't really believe in a 'next life,' because if they did, they would be scared to death about what they are doing right now, because there is no question that it is wrong, Shame on Republicans and Conservatives in general for torturing children for their own political gain among themselves.

Blessings and hugs to you dear friend , , ,

I have experienced the paranormal several times over the years. Maybe I'll write about them someday. For now, I'm just glad you and your family got out of "that house."

Anita Hasch from Port Elizabeth on April 04, 2018:

I don't think I should have read this hub so late at night all by my lonesome self. Just had a strange paranormal experience, although I'm sure there is a logical explanation. Just can't think of one now. I like burning a candle when I type at night while the lights are on. Makes it look more cosy. Anyway, I'm down to my last one so I thought I would blow it out. I did. And a few minutes later the candle came on by it self.

Just like a ghost telling me. Hi, you are not alone. Spirits just love me, I get the feeling they want to communicate with me. Pity I am so scared of things I can't see.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on November 08, 2017:

My dear friend, please forgive the time it takes me to reply to your comments, I don't seem to be able to get back on track after Kevin's brutal murder.

I do appreciate your comments and sharing on Face Book.

It still hurts, that I can't talk to Kev just any time I want.

Hope all is well with you.

Blessings and hugs always

Going to share this on FB again since this is Halloween weekend. With Trump in office it almost makes incidents like this one you write about seem ordinary! Just kidding -- sort of. But more people than you might think live in constant fear of nuclear war and having their SS taken away, and other horrible things since Trump. He's worse than a fright.

Hope everything at your house is the best it can be. Blessings and hugs dear friend . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on October 20, 2017:

Au fait, thank you for the comments and for sharing of FB and AH.

Well Kevin's ex is giving every thing that could have been his daughter's legacy to the lawyer to get a little for herself.

Hope all is well with you.

Blessings always.

C E Clark from North Texas on October 14, 2017:

This is definitely a scary story and I'm glad you didn't stay in that house. This makes for a good Halloween story and with Halloween just 17 days away, people who like scary stories should definitely read this one. The fact that it's a true story makes it all the scarier. There are a lot more strange unknowns in this world than a lot of people realize . . .

Sharing this on FB and AH.

Hope you and yours are all as well as possible. I'm sorry there are so many problems with the Kevin's ex. Sometimes it seems like some people live only to cause as much trouble as they can for the people around them. Hope everything turns out well in the end. Blessings to you both. Take care dear friend . . .

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on June 05, 2017:

Au fait, thank you for the comment. trump is a witch, actually he is a warlock (i.e. an oath breaker) and he can dish it out, but he can't take it. I think some of the people who voted for trump would protest anything that might jeopardize a Republican seat in the Congress or Senate.

Hope all is well with you also, Many Blessings my dear friend.

C E Clark from North Texas on June 05, 2017:

Think we're all experiencing the 'paranormal' or at least something weird and scary since Trump got into office. Think he may be something loose from the underworld. Have to say, I don't remember people hating Richard Nixon as much as so many people hate the Trumpster. His supporters are loud and raucus and the noise makes it seem like there are more of them than their actually are.

Wondering what "they" are doing that they don't want us to know about while they have all of us riveted on Trump and his endless bad deeds. He has and continues to do far worse things than I thought he would, and I knew it would be bad, just not this bad.

Hope all is well with you and John and Chipper. Take care, dear friend . . .

You are the true story teller the way you write because it kept me reading your 'true story' to the end. Very good thanks for sharing.

Dear Beautiful Paula, I am glad you got to know me a little more. Pigeon was so cute, I have a picture but could not find it when I wrote this, I wish you could see it, Pigeon had turned a small garbage can over, found a dog food can almost as big as she was and she took it to the steps but could not climb them. Yes we have been lucky, my brothers and I and Dad to be close. Do you have siblings?

Have you written about your spiritual experiences? I would love to read about them.

Thank you for inviting me into your dream, strange that we talked a lot because I am not much of a talker, but I am a good listener. I don't look like that anymore, my hair is blond now (the grey does not show as much as it would with red (lol.) You can see what I looked like when about six in my hub "The Last Hoedown" and what I look like now in "Lost in Thoughts - 1st in the Good Thoughts Project," holding my great grandson. Yes my hubby is John.

I dream nightly also, I love to dream, I have such great adventures and I have learned to wake myself up if I do not like my dream and change it.

You are welcome, maybe you can visit me in mine.

Blessings and Hugs my dear friend.

Suzie from Carson City on September 07, 2016:

Shyron.....I enjoyed learning a little about your childhood with your grandparents & working on a farm. I can just imagine how cute your dog was and I love the story about how he got his name! :) You & your brothers were lucky to have so much family love, including a step-Dad who cared so much for all of you.

I can't help but think that he must have been upset with what he saw or sensed in the attic. It was best you all went elsewhere.

I've had a few experiences in my life that can be described as "spiritual" (or not of this world) but they were not at all frightening. In fact they were comforting. Other than those events, nothing of the paranormal type.

I do need to tell you something you may find as interesting as I have. Just 2 nights ago YOU were in a dream I had! That part was very clear to me. I knew you were "Shyron" & of course you looked just like your profile pic because that's the only you I've ever seen! LOL.....Wherever we were, there were a lot of people (no faces, no names) & a lot of activity but I don't know what was going on. You & I talked almost non-stop, yet I have no idea what we talked about! By that, I mean, nothing I recalled when I awoke. Also, I was aware your husband was there, but he had no face (sorry! LOL) and I did call him by some name but you corrected me and told me his name was "John" (so at some point, I'm sure I read in one of your hubs that John is his name?) I think I referred to him as "David." ?? so anyway Shyron, thanks for visiting me in my dreams...even though I have no idea why or what we talked about !! LOL Who knows, maybe you'll stop by again. I dream nightly. I always have but don't know why I have such an active subconscious. It doesn't interfere with my sleep but if I have an upsetting or frightening dream, it weighs heavily on me throughout the next morning.

I thought you might like to know where you & your husband were 2 nights ago!!! LOL!! Peace, Paula

I never had any experiences but my mother did when she was a child. I heard lots of stories too as we lived in a neighborhood more or less surrounded by cemeteries.

Voted up, awesome, and interesting.

Have a blessed evening.

Don A. Hoglund from Wisconsin Rapids on September 07, 2014:

There have been couple of things that might be paranormal or not in my life. In our previous house there was a stairway leading up to a deck and our front door. Sometimes people would hear footsteps. A visitor asked if our house was haunted. Since there was a ravine in back of our house, I think sounds from the other side of the ravine might somehow have been heard by us. I just don't know. voted up and shared.

Jaye, I can't wait to read whatever you write, a good fictional mystery sounds great.

You have a great weekend also, wonderful Sunday. Blessing to you and your family and friends.

Jaye Denman from Deep South, USA on July 26, 2014:

That's a good idea, Shyron, but I think if I wrote about the discomfort I experienced in that house--the strange feelings and fleeting sights that seemed just out of reach--I would probably use it as the basis for a fictional story. So, thanks for the suggestion. I have a short story contest deadline coming up soon, and a hint of the paranormal would be a good addition to my entry.

Have a good weekend and stay cool. (Isn't A/C the most wonderful invention for hot summers?) Blessings to you and yours, my friend...Jaye

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on July 26, 2014:

Jaye, did you write about the house? It would make an interesting story, thank you for telling me about it. I was divorced also when my 2 sons were small. So I know what you are talking about.

Thank you my dear friend for your comments, up votes ++

Blessings always.

Jaye Denman from Deep South, USA on July 25, 2014:

This is a very interesting story, Shyron, but I'm disappointed that your stepdad never explained why he nailed the steps to the attic shut, what he saw there and why the family moved next day. The facts that the house was affordable in a high-rent area, plus its being torn down after your family moved, point to the possibility that others had experienced the same phenomenon, regardless of what caused it.

While I am skeptical about a lot of things, I also realize that there are very many mysteries in this world for which humans do not know the answers. So I am open to hearing explanations and giving them thought.

When I was 28, my then-husband and I bought a home about 13 miles from the small town where we'd first moved for his job and, for a few years, rented an old house.

I didn't like living in the country, but the house was a nice brick structure that was like brand-new, and no one had ever lived in it. Not only that, the sales price was less than the appraisal for the house and land. (This was back in 1971.) It seemed like a terrific deal, but I really didn't want to live in the country.

The realtor said the builder ran out of money and needed to sell the property quickly. The land around the house hadn't been cleared off, except for small front and back yards. The rest of the property--several acres--was thick with tall pines and hardwood trees.

I liked the home's exterior and interior, plus there was one of those bright lights on a pole that kept the outside from being pitch-black at night. This helped me adjust somewhat to living in the country, though I still didn't like the (to me) oppressive silence broken only by the sounds of crickets and tree frogs. (The road was paved, but had a low volume of traffic. There were several other homes fairly close by.) Also, the interior was roomy and nice. I enjoyed having new appliances and AC/heat pump system.

My youngest child had started to school, and my husband worked in the town 13 miles away. Since I wasn't working at a job or going to school then, I was at home most of the day alone except for weekends or when I occasionally played canasta with some friends.

When I was home alone, it didn't take much time to finish my household chores, so I read a lot or played my piano. Here's where the 'strange' part begins. While I never heard any unexplained noises, something kept occurring that made me uneasy and for which I could find no reasonable explanation.

There was a hall that led from the living room door past one of the bathrooms and three bedrooms. On numerous occasions, just as I would walk into that hall, I seemed to catch a glance--with my peripheral vision--a flash, it seemed, of someone disappearing around a door frame at the other end of the hallway. I always hurried to the room where the shadow/wraith/whatever seemed to go, but it was always empty. I began to feel more and more uneasy and avoided as much as possible that end of the ranch-style house while alone, leaving the living room door closed. For some reason, I developed the idea that the house didn't like me! I've always been somewhat intuitive, so I trusted my feeling, but hesitated to tell my husband because I knew he would laugh at me.

I finally got so uncomfortable about the house that I did tell him, and--I was right--he did laugh at me. So I made up my mind to just live with it, though I never felt comfortable or 'at home' in that house.

Within two years of the day we moved in, my husband had an affair that destroyed what was left of our marriage, so the children and I moved out soon after my 30th birthday. I've never had an experience like that again.

I haven't thought about that house and how unpleasant it seemed to me in years. After moving away from it, I told myself it must have been something about a 'trick of the light' through the windows or shadows caused by the nearby trees that caused the sensation of movement around the door. I'll never know.

Helen, thank you for the comment, I will go and read you story. Thank you for stopping by.

Very interesting story, Shyron! I too have lived in a haunted house and it was not a nice experience! In fact I have a hub on it if you're interested!

C E Clark from North Texas on July 25, 2014:

This is a pretty scary story. There is evil in this world that many people don't seem to realize. So glad you got away from there. Posting on FB, sharing on HP, and pinning on AH.

Hope all is well. You were pretty quiet yesterday. Blessings for you and John . . .

Tried twice. For some reason this isn't showing up in the feed. Have you put comments on approval?

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on May 09, 2014:

Barbara, I am so glad you enjoyed this and came back to read it again. Please let me know if you write about the house you lived in.

Thanks again for you comment.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on May 09, 2014:

Au fait, my dear friend, thank you for you comments, votes, sharing and pinning.

We only got enough rain to dampen our spirits, and our power was out for a bit. No PC, TV. So we did some shopping.

Did you get a lot of rain? I saw on the news this morning that Oak Cliff got a lot of flooding. I will give you a call after you get home from work.

Barbara Badder from USA on May 07, 2014:

I've read this before, but I enjoyed it the second time too. We've lived in a house like that too.

C E Clark from North Texas on May 07, 2014:

Thought I'd give this another look since I haven't checked it out lately. So glad you got well away from this place.

Voting this up, AI, and sharing. Also pinning to AH.

Hope we get a good soaking rain tomorrow as predicted and that you and John are well and won't have to be out in it . . .

Thank you dwelburn, I had not before we moved in this house. Glad to say I haven't since. Thank you so much for stopping in and leaving a comment.

David from Birmingham, UK on March 23, 2014:

Very interesting story. I have never experienced anything paranormal, but my mum and my girlfriend both claim they have. And I've known other reliable people make the same claim.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on March 20, 2014:

Thank you Hackslap for you visit and comment. I reall appreciate your compliment.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on March 20, 2014:

Thank you Ruby, for your visit. You are right that was the best thing that could happen, the house was beautiful, but I don't think anyone could live there for long.

Harry from Sydney, Australia on March 19, 2014:

I've certainly experienced things .. and have also been 'ghost-hunting' and on ghost tours ... they're just energies like us ...except they exist in a different plane ... great article!

Maree Michael Martin from Northwest Washington on an Island on March 19, 2014:

Old houses do tend to hold onto paranormal stuff it seems. Stories from old mansions that are haunted, I love to visit. Sounds like that is the best thing to happen to that house was being destroyed. As much as I love old houses, some of them hold some nasty energy that can't be cleansed by any means. It is a strange thing to be around for sure. Glad you all made it to a safer environment.

Thank you Au fait for recommending, Moonlake's hub, I just read Billrrrr's hub. I have heard of some very strange things.

Also thank you for the upvotes and sharing this hub.

The payout was a surprise, I had forgotten about it until we talked.

freefogging from Florida on December 29, 2013:

I grew up in a house that was haunted. It was built on an old indian graveyard. I guess the Indians were stuck between worlds or something. They never tried to harm me or my family. Just showed up dressed in full Indian attire, usually in the upstairs of the house, where the bedrooms were. I spent my childhood sleeping with my parents because I was so scared! They would usually show themselves at night...very scary!!

Barbara Badder from USA on December 29, 2013:

When we were first married, we lived in a house where strange things happened and two of us even heard a woman's voice. She was friendly, but it was odd how things turned themselves off and on. No one would babysit for me for more than an hour or two, because of it.

C E Clark from North Texas on December 29, 2013:

As you know, I've recently read about some strange things here on hubpages, by Moonlake (The Strange Light of Watersmeet) and Billrrrr (What's In Your Swamp), and I thought I would revisit this article because it is about something really strange too. Our world has some very odd, unexplainable, downright scary things in it. I've experienced some of them myself and maybe someday I'll write about them too.

Voting this up and awesone/interesting again, and sharing with my followers. Also, want to congratulate you again on your first payout from Hubpages!!

Also voted up and interesting.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on September 06, 2013:

This is really interesting, Tom, I have listened to your mom many times on the recording on your hub. I have heard a lot of stories but never saw a ghost. Only the strange things that went on in the house in California.

I had a friend, Stacy who said she would come back to see me and that I should not be afraid, (this was about 2 weeks before she died) but I have not seen her. My mom died in 2008, September 18, she had ESP and saved my grandparents house from burning down, while we were out in the cotton fields working. She had a premonition the the house caught fire and was burning, She called a neighbor to go and see about the house and when the neightor got to the farm house the fire had just started in the kitchen and he put the fire out, before to much damage was done.

I will listen to your recording again, but not tonight, we worked outside all day and I am wiped out.

Thank you again Tom telling about all this. I really appreciate you.

Thomas Byers from East Coast , United States on September 06, 2013:

I do know some of the ghosts I see Shyron. In the house where I live now a woman who owned the house died by falling out the back door at the one end of the house. It was said she was probably going out that way to get help. She died of a heart attack. She sewed for a living making quilts and she had a old pedal sewing machine here in the house. Her son sold the sewing machine and many years later I bought the house and remodeled it after her son died. But she sews on the sewing machine many nights especially when it is raining. You can hear her and I've seen her in my bedroom many times. I built my master suite on where the door she fell out is at. I and others have also seen the son here on the property.

I also see my Mom's ghost here, on my friends property and at her old house. My mom is one of the most active ghosts I have ever seen. Do a search here for Virginia Walker and you can hear her tell a ghost story she told all her life. An amazing ghost story I recorded I think in 2008. She passed away in 2010 on January 6th.

I've been doing ghost hunting now for almost 50 years and the first ghost I ever saw was when I was 4 years old. I'm now 63 so that was a long time ago. I could always see them as could my mom and my neices. I know other people who can see them to. Other people for what ever reason can not.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on September 06, 2013:

Thank you Tom, for your complements, comments and sharing my story, so glad you enjoyed it.

Do you know who the ghosts are, when you see them? Do you recognize them?

Thanks again Tom.

Thomas Byers from East Coast , United States on September 05, 2013:

Voted up and shared. A great piece of writing Shyron. You did a great job with this one. I really enjoyed your story. There was a lot of feeling in it. Great work.

Ghosts are very real. I see them quite often. Some people can see ghosts and some people can't. I just had one walk thru here a few minutes ago.

I have indeed experienced some weird things that I never want to experience again. This article describes some really horrible scary things too. Thought I would share it again and voted it up and awesome too. I'm so glad you got out of that place!

vwriter, thank you for your comments. I have had other experiences but nothing like the one in california.

vwriter from US on July 20, 2013:

Interesting article. I'm glad you are out of the house. I've had experiences, but of a little different nature. When someone has passed, they have let me know things were okay.

Thank you Rajan for your comment, I do know that feeling.

And when the dog would not enter the room something is not right.

Rajan Singh Jolly from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar, INDIA. on June 26, 2013:

Something was certainly not well about the house or maybe your bedroom. I once lived in a house where there was something weird about the room that was on the terrace. And even the stairs leading to the terrace gave an eerie feeling.

Thank you yankeeintexas, for reading and commenting on my hub, and thank you for the following.

yankeeintexas from Lubbock, Texas on June 16, 2013:

I moved my family into a house in the country once. As soon as we moved in my wife, and children kept saying that they were seeing people in the house who should not not be there! I did many room to room searches during the time we lived there. So, finally one day I challenged the entity to show it self to me (I will never do that again)! That night I kept seeing a person in the window, and the dog kept freaking out. Like Queen Hypatia I believe in demons, and immediately moved my family! I do believe that my faith in God protected my family from any violence that could have come from it!

Thank you moonlake for the comment and up vote. Yes it was spooky and we never knew what was in the attic.

Enjoyed your story but I know it must have been spooky for your family to go through that. Voted up.

C E Clark from North Texas on June 15, 2013:

I have experienced strange happenings, but now I just created a new board called, "The Paranormal," so that I can pin this strange, scary article on it. Going to share also.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on March 16, 2013:

Thank you Au fait for your comments. I don't think I wanted to know what was in the attic.

C E Clark from North Texas on March 04, 2013:

Such curious things in our world. Too bad your dad never told you what he found in the attic. Nowadays you could call the local cops to check it out, or the FBI. Interesting that Pigeon would never go back into your bedroom. That would suggest that whatever was in the house was in your bedroom.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on February 12, 2013:

Au fait. It was very scary and now days maybe they do DNA testing to find out what it was.

C E Clark from North Texas on February 12, 2013:

I've had some bad experiences of this nature, but never one quite so close to evil as I believe you were to have that gunk oozing through the ceiling. I'm so glad you escaped to tell this story!

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on February 09, 2013:

Thank you Au fait. I am glad we got out also.

C E Clark from North Texas on January 26, 2013:

I have experienced the paranormal and I think most people do to some extent even if they don't realize it, because the 'paranormal' encompasses a lot of different things. Very good story and interesting to know these things really do happen to people. I have heard of things and read things similar to this before, but never actually knew the person recounting it, but I do know you, so I know that this really happened. I'm really so glad you got out of that house.

Shyron E Shenko (author) from Texas on January 20, 2013:

Thank you Au fait, for your comment. I have heard som hair raising experiences. Glad we go out.

C E Clark from North Texas on January 20, 2013:

The answer is yes, I have experienced 'the paranormal' as you call it, and in a lot of different ways. Glad you didn't stay long in that house!
