What It Means to Have a True Friend

A friend

A friend is someone you turn to when you are lonely or want to go somewhere fun. A friend is someone who understands you better than anyone else. Having such a person in one's life is the greatest gift of all.

Consider having someone you can trust with your secrets and someone who can trust you with theirs. A person who defends you in public and later corrects you if you are incorrect. That's the type of person you'd want as a friend.

Someone to whom you could confide your darkest secrets and most painful memories, but who will never tell them to anyone.

A Best Friend

Here goes my best friend. I share everything with them and they share everything with me. I know it can be hard to trust this but some people can dedicate their life to yours forever. Imagine getting married to a best friend. It will give you the best marriage life ever. This is because you share everything and hide nothing from each other.

Opinions on How to Keep a Friend

A friend should be willing to stay with you even in your darkest moments. However, we sometimes push our friends too far. It is hard to keep a friend if you keep messing up and betraying them. Sometimes, people just leave because it is too painful for them to watch you self-destruct.

If you think you are pushing your friends always, you can try to do the following:

  • Be there for them.
  • Explain your situation.

You don't have to change who you are. Just ensure that you are comfortable with your behavior.

How to Know that You Have a True Friend - My Perspective

  • True friends don't leave you when you are faced with the most challenging episodes of life.
  • True friends may not be there with you but will always be there for you.
  • True friends are kind and honest with you.
  • True friends tell you when you are wrong.
  • True friends try their best to be there for you when you need them.
  • True friends do not stay mad at you forever.

Is it Okay to Date your Best Friend? - My Perspective

It is acceptable to date your best friend. Your best friend knows you better than anyone else, and it's perfectly fine to want to date them. Most people are afraid of asking their best friends out because they are worried about how they will react.

Best friends don't always want to do anything other than be best friends. As a result, if you ask them out, things may become awkward. But it's worth a shot.

Invite your best friend out. Tell them you love them more than you should and want to be with them. The worst-case scenario is that they reject you and end your friendship. The best-case scenario is that they accept your feelings and offer to return them.

Here's the reality. You have a better understanding of your best friend. You already know how he/she will react if you ask them out. If you think confessing your feelings to your best friend will end your friendship, you don't have to.

Also, if you don't say anything, you might not know how your friend feels about you. Therefore, if you believe the risk is worthwhile, go ahead and take it.
