As an avid reader myself, today I am sharing a reading experience with my readers in an effort to relate to them as one of them only.
For most of us, reading is indeed a pure pleasure. But reading a well-written heartwarming love story is far more than just pure pleasure. Having a chance to read one such love story I could not stop myself from sharing with you that out of the world and ecstatic experience.
The story is about a young boy born in a very poor family of eight children. Very early in life, he is led to the world of petty crime. As he grows older, he gets bolder and gets involved in bigger crimes. He is caught and sent to a children’s home.
As expected, life there is too harsh and he manages to escape. But very soon the lure of easy money pulls him towards crime once again. This time he takes to bank robberies with a few friends, nay, partners in crime. Soon after one such bank robbery he is caught and sentenced to jail. By this time he is a grown-up person.
Once again, he carefully plans and executes his escape from jail successfully. This time he starts his life anew in a totally different city with a new name. He carefully establishes himself as an honest and hard-working person. He is not alone in his new life. A young innocent girl falls in love with him and together they live for nearly four decades raising a family of four kids. Life is complete and picture-perfect in every sense.
All these years, he feels restless at not being able to tell his wife about his past. Yet he can never muster enough courage to do so. He fears that his wife will leave him. Or she would ask him to surrender himself to the police. However, the wife never suspects anything.
But, this is a story you see, and what is a story without twists and turns. Their picture-perfect life is disrupted by the arrival of police one fine morning. As expected, the wife is shocked to know about the true identity of her husband of nearly four decades.
And as it happens in films and in stories, this wife gets over her shock very soon. She rises up to the occasion and gets going. Leaving no stone unturned, sparing no effort whatsoever, she succeeds in getting her man released from jail within a year. A story with a happy ending that proves once again that true love can and does conquer all. And the reader is happy, really happy.
But wait a second. That is not all. This story has one more thing to prove and make the reader really happy for one more reason.
That reason is the victory of good over evil. The man had waged a war within himself against the evil forces. His good intentions and hard work found the right anchor in his noble wife and he could win the battle not once but twice. The reader’s belief system that good always wins over evil gets another boost in the story and the reader is happy.
Many of you might be wondering what is so unusual in this love story. All good love stories have more or less the same elements, so why pick on this particular story.
Let me tell you what I haven’t told you till now.
The unusual thing about this story is that it is not a story at all. It is not a piece of an author’s imagination penned down and published. It is a real-life story that I had a chance to read.
It is this fact that makes this love story so unusual.
I urge you to search for Bobby Love and Cheryl Love in your Google search bar and read the real-life story in the search results. Bobby Love is the fugitive turned goodman of the story and Cheryl Love is his righteous and loving life. Together they prove that not only in films and books but in real life also good wins over evil.
I could not believe that this is a real story. In reality, in all probability, a man with a criminal record does not even think of recreating his life anew. The society does not let him do that. People knowingly or unknowingly never let him forget his shady past. Even if he could do it in a new city, with his lovely wife, doing it so well and raising a family also is possible in books of fiction only.
But that is not all. Do you think in real life any woman can get over such a shock? Wouldn’t she feel hurt and cheated? It is more likely that she would feel very angry. Any woman in her place would feel justified in leaving the man of four decades for not letting her know the truth. She would blame him for bringing her the misfortune of being a criminal’s wife.
But Cheryl Love is not like the women we see around us. A loving wife that she is, she stood like a rock by her husband’s side, did all that could have possibly been done, and made sure her man was released.
The fiction-like reality of the story is what won my heart. How about you?

Hi Poonamji, this story made for such easy racy reading. Your interpretation of the story made it even more enjoyable. It reminded me of Sati Savithri, the way that Cheryl brought back her husband from the gallows and disrepute. You are right, she was the rock and the anchor. This couple has lot of lessons to teach to society. Thanks for the heart-warming story!
