Score likes and followers with easy steps to creating a great Instagram selfie

Instagram and social media are the way of the future and if you do not have a great profile then you are a little behind the times. There are a few ways to mess up your profile which might cause slight embarrassment or it could totally earn you the worst networker title.

Many teens think it is cool to selfie every single thing that they are doing, naturally because the celebrities are doing it but what you don't know is that they are being paid to take a picture of every little thing.

For those of us who are not being paid to do this then it is completely stupid to take selfies of every item that you own or see.

Being fun and free is a great idea but there are certain things to avoid doing and great ideas to get you likes and followers....who knows, you might be the next kylie Jenner and your posts could make you millions!

Avoid the awkward smile

If you have no idea how to smile or it feels completely uncomfortable, then just act naturally and smile like you would if something was genuinely making you smile. Natural is always the best option so that you do not appear to be fake.

Try to avoid the pout or pursing your lips if you can't get it done naturally, or else you might look uptight and fake, which will get your potential followers to flee.

There is nothing better than a genuine and natural smile and a good way to get this is to tell one of your friends to say something funny.

Focus on one body part, if you are concentrating on a smile, keep your lip gloss glowing and focus your photograph on that.

If it is your eyes then emphasise your eyes with a bit of make up and some good old fashioned light.

Find good light to take your selfie

It is all about the lighting and if you are in a spot where the light is shining too brightly or too dark, you might cast a shadow or emphasize parts of yourself that you don't want to.

Fluorescent lights are the devil, so avoid this at all costs. Natural or good lighting is great even if you have no make up on, it is just finding the perfect light that takes a bit of time.

Once you have the correct lighting you are able to take a selfie that will make you look fantastic and highlight all your assets as well as give you that extra natural looking glow.

Selfie Light

The Selfie Light

This selfie light is a must purchase, especially if you want great lighting. All you have to do is put your camera into the slot, switch on the light and you have the perfect lighting for your video or photograph.

It is light enough to travel with and it is easy to set up and pack away.

Get to know your camera and when to use the flash light

A flash is not always a good idea because it might cast a shadow on your face, give you a red eye look that makes you appear to be from some sort of a murder movie.

Try to use your front flash rather than the back camera flash because it is not so harsh.

Flashes in general are only used in complete dark or dull indoors with no lighting. If you really have to use it, make sure that you take a few snaps before you press send.

I would suggest the compact selfie light as it fits onto your phone and you can use it for every photograph.

Cute Filters for Your Selfies on Instagram

Use the filters to create a better look on Instagram

Sometimes we just do not feel it but you like your look on a certain day and you really want to capture it. Use a filter to enhance your look if you are not too sure about it and the trick with this is too avoid going overboard as if you have something to hide. Just make it cute and simple so that it looks natural.

The make up filters can be too much and often, teens look as though they have painted their faces for a spot in the carnival.

Just be natural and remember that the filters are there to add to your look, not to hide it and alter the entire photo.

Filters can be fun if you use them in the right way, don't add extra smooth or filters that completely change your face because at the end of the day you want people to be attracted to your Instagram profile and it has to have a certain element of reality.

Photo Editing Whiz

Keep it Real

Selfies are meant to capture a moment in your life, they are not meant to place you in an unrealistic pose. If you were not standing next to Justin Bieber than don't take a selfie with you holding his hand. If you are not a celebrity singing on stage in China, then don't put yourself there because it is not funny or cute if you are posing with the intention to fool the crowd.

Be natural and take a selfie in a place that you are actually visiting.

I do not have to remind you to be careful when taking your selfies, we do not want to let traffickers and psycho's know where we are.

Delay your posts too just in case!

Avoid taking photographs that give away your location, your family or your friends and never ever give anyone the opportunity to meet, because even though it feels like you have loads of friends on IG, they are not really your buddies and it is just an online connection.

Great Poses for Instagram

Practice your poses

Practice your poses

Practice your poses

Get to know which angle is your best one by practicing with your camera. Take photo's of yourself in every angle to get to know which side is your best side, what enhances your features and which poses are not for you.

Once you know which angle is your best one then it will be easy for you to snap quickly and look natural after hours of posing.

Every single face is different but just remember that natural is always the best look.

Avoid looking down, don't pull up too much and when you are about to take the photo, remember to look into the eye of the camera and not at your profile or you will have a little bit of a squint look.

Try not to slouch when wearing a crop top and avoid doing the squat pose for every pic, that is getting a little old now.

Don't use the peace sign or any hand signals that you don't know, keep yourself in the moment and try not be something that you are not.

Take selfies when your face looks fresh

In general, the morning is the best time to take a good selfie because you are fresh and clean with make up that looks like it has just been put on. Hair styles are also still in place first thing in the day, which makes for a good selfie.

There is nothing worse than taking a photo of yourself when you look as though you have slept in your make up.

If you want to look very fresh and awake after a heavy night or it is an early morning, use an ice pack on your face, it will give you a glow and an appearance of being fresh.

Background and Backdrops for Good Selfie Poses

Never take a photograph in the toilet or in front of a cupboard full of clothes.

Avoid taking selfies in a dirty bedroom or a place that is a mess because people are looking at every little detail in your photograph and that hot guy doesn't want to see the girl of his dreams as a pig.

Keep your backgrounds plain and simple, a wall in your room, the beach, a garden or put a black backdrop or table cloth behind you before you take your photograph.

Avoid Being a Celebrity Want to Be

Most of us enjoy looking at Jlo's profile or Cardi B and the mistake that is made is trying to imitate them on Instagram.

Remember that they have social media professionals posting and taking photo's for them.

If you dress up and try to be one of the celebrities you will just end up looking like a bit of a fanatic, rather than your own star.

You also might get into a bit of trouble with the parents if you pose half nude and past on the make - up.

It could be seen as inappropriate for a teen to imitate an older celebrity and you will look a little desperate.

Instead, create your own look, make your Instagram your own and keep yourself as real as possible.

Use some of the celebrity looks or influence but keep yourself, you.

It is also a good idea to take a selfie with bed hair or naturally close so that people can be attracted to the authenticity.'

Don't post as if you are a celebrity because you will end up with no followers, especially if you are faking it.
