Make New Friends but Keep the Old

New and Old Friend

New Friends--- It appears easy for some people to make friends with people whom they encounter at various places. However,it is not easy for some people to be open and friendly with others. And, we all know this type of person, and from my personal experience--- they make the best of friends. Remember, when you make new friends always keep the old friends. Old friends are the roots to your "Friendship Tree."

Introverts and Extroverts Spins the World Around

Introverts--- Because some people are introverts , yes I mean shy, and this can begin at an early age and follow one into adulthood. Not that these people feel superior it is just their nature to be standoffish.

But being an introvert is not only being considered shy--- sometimes it is a choice one makes, because they like being alone to think, investigate the world around them; and to delve into the inter-working of one's mind. To work on their dream project, their life’s work, to speculate on a new invention and so on.

Introverts can be writers, artist, inventors, scientist; composers are a few examples where Introverts rein.

However, do not overlook these people called Introverts, because some very famous people were considered introverts.

And, here is a list of Famous Introverts:

  • Albert Einstein
  • Warren Buffet
  • Frederic Chopin
  • Charles Darwin
  • Mahatma Gandhi
  • Al Gore
  • Sir Isaac Newton
  • Larry Page—Co-Founder of Google
  • J.K. Rowling—British Author of the Harry Potter Books
  • Steven Spielberg—Director and Producer

These are only a few recognizable names not to be ignored by the world today. So, the point being is do not overlook the quiet co-workers, next-door neighbors, church members or anyone who is not an outgoing friendly person.

Because this may be their choice, but always ask them to be included in anything in your social or work related world. Some introverts may feel being around others on a social level---- will use up valuable time and energy--- this is how some may think, but they need other people in their lives for a healthy balance. You might be surprise what a great friend they will turn out to be.

Extroverts--- are outgoing and friendly, and love to be around people on any social level, as they seem to be able to think--- only while they are talking to others, the opposite of the introverts who can only think alone, because being around other demises their energy.

Extroverts seem to acquire their energy from being around others, and they cannot stand to be alone. When an extrovert is alone they become bored and need to talk to someone. How many of your friends stay on the phone constantly talking when they are home alone?

Here is a list of Famous Extroverts :

  • Ronald Reagan
  • Mark Twain
  • Sandra Bullock
  • Robin Williams
  • President Obama
  • Ben Affleck
  • Donald Trump
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • John F. Kennedy
  • Margaret Thatcher

Most great leaders are extroverts who are passionate, garrulous, self-confident and sociable. They appreciate being with large groups, social functions and anyplace where people congregate so they can communicate in an oral manner. They get their energy from being around other people, i.e. Presidents, politicians, preachers, teachers, actors, and the lists are endless.

One should always consider both types when choosing a network of friends, as some are very oral and the others are a little inhibited. The blend of both types makes a harmonious mix. And please remember when selecting friends---make new friends but keep the old friends. We all need our support of friends.

Sweet Memories Still Linger

What an adventure were our youthful lives

from dressing up in our mother’s clothes

to running away from home,

we did it all with a song, but were never alone.

We rode Edie’s horse named Strawberry,

He loved to take us on our trips so merry.

We always took water and carrots for him,

He was our runaway gem.

One day I took Polly our parrot---she was so neat,

We took a walking stick for her talon feet.

We visited the old alligator at the town pond,

We fed her bacon of which she was fond.

Polly we put in a tree while we visited the gator,

So once every so often I was her cater.

Strawberry ate the sweet grass around the pond,

And Polly sang from a limb just beyond.

When time to leave and go home before our parent's dreaded return,

We packed up Polly and climb on Strawberry with our treasure find---

an old muddy, smelly urn.

We waved goodbye to “Old Gator” until we came again,

We said a little prayer for her with a big AMEN.

Hi ChitrangadaSharan,

I am so happy to hear from you. I am not online much anymore since my husband has become ill, but it is always great to hear from my favorite hubbers.

Great hub and it made me think! I believe I am a mixture of both extrovert and introvert. And this may be according to the people and situations/ circumstances.

Thoroughly enjoyed going through your hub. And I completely agree with you in saying that we must preserve our old friends while making new ones.

Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed reading this because I have always been interested in the personalities of people. Thank goodness we are all different! I'm sort of an ambivert, I guess.

I wrote a Hub on this subject, Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Take this quiz and find out. May I link your Hub into mine? Thanks in advance.

Hope you have a great weekend. Bobbi

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on June 18, 2012:

Yes, I can spot the extroverts who are very popular and has lots of followers, they are a joy to watch. And the introverts who just enjoys their own little world without competing.

The difference in people makes life more enjoyable.

Your Hub Friend,

So very interesting! I wonder how many writers end up in one camp or the other? Or whether that affects popularity on writing sites like Hubpages? Your hub raised really interesting questions for me! Hope you are doing well!!

Thank you for the visit and leaving a comment. I am a little of both. I need my own space, and then I can be happy with other people.

Hi Debbie,

I am so happy to hear from you, and I hope you are enjoying all the excitement of your new book.

I really believe that I am both Introvert and Extrovert, because I do love to socialize--- but I need my space also, and alone time to think and plan.

We humans are a strange lot---but it is fun just trying to balance our lives in our world today.

You take care,

Your Friend,

I am so happy you stopped by, and I appreciate your comment. I thought you would be an introvert, and I have always preferred a thinking quiet man.

My Daddy was an introvert and he was the sweetest easy going man who lived in our town. Everyone loved him and his kind ways.

Your Hub Friend,

I too tend to be a thinker and not a social person. There are times when I can be outgoing, but my preference is to be within.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on May 04, 2012:

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool introvert with a bounty of friends. The best of both worlds. Great hub Bobbi but then I expect nothing less from you my friend.
