I ran across the inspiration board shown about at Here Comes The Blog under their Country Western Wedding Theme section. I love just about everything about it from the handmade quilts that would be perfect as a table runner or to lay on the hay bales where the bride and groom sit at the ceremony to the wrangler jeans and the beautiful bride with her cowgirl hat. Yes - this is a rustic style wedding, but isn't that what going country is all about. Using vases full of wildflowers as centerpieces is the perfect way to pull a bit of the outdoors to an indoor reception facility. And using old-fashioned canning jars to serve up some sweet tea or lemonade is an obvious choice for the Southern bride.
Even if this board is a bit too rustic for you, poke around online until you find a board that suits your tastes because the more ideas you have, the more easy it will be to plan the wedding that you've always dreamed of!
Country Western Invitations
If you are tying the knot Western style, then be sure your invitations reflect your personality and that Western style. Some of my favorite country style invitations feature horse, horseshoe, cowboy boot and spurs, and rope motifs. You can find one of my favorite collections of country western wedding invitations at Weddings by Dawn. They have nearly 30 different designs to choose from.
Another fantastic option is to create your own invitations - this is a great option if you are having a rustic wedding and you are on a budget. You can find lots of templates and ideas at doit101.com so check them out!
How To Make Western Wedding Invites
Western Wedding Decorations

Many brides and grooms that choose a Western wedding theme choose to have outdoor tent or indoor barn receptions so in this section, I'll outline some ideas that could be used in both of those scenarios. In either case, be sure that the tent or barn is large enough to accommodate all of your guests and that you have plenty of restroom facilities for the event. You'll want to have room for both dining and dancing so take that into consideration as well.
Once you've chosen the venue, you'll want to make it a romantic oasis for your guests. Make sure that the lawn area is well groomed and utilize haybales to form the entrance to the barn or tent. Big pots of plants and/or vases or wildflowers can also be used to mark the entrance area. Inside, you'll want to provide plenty of lighting so use twinkle lights wrapped around the tent or barn posts and/or rafters. Also hang old-fashioned battery powered lanterns throughout the area. Use battery powered votive candle holders on window ledges and on the reception tables. Long white-washed picnic or rustic tables covered with cloths to match your color scheme are a great choice. Using large glass vases, glass cowboy boots or galvanized buckets full of flowers are a great way to bring the outdoors inside as well. Finally use western accent pieces to decorate the walls and tables. Large wagon wheels on the barn doors or leaning up against hay bales look great. Other accent ideas include horse shoes, tulle, saddles, lassos, hay bales, old cowboy boots and quilts. The possibilities are endless!
And no reception would be complete without a country style ho-down or at least some romantic country music. Check out the video below to hear 30 country wedding song favorites.
Country Western Wedding Accessories
No western wedding is complete without some country style wedding accessories. As usual, I am going to recommend that you buy a fully coordinated wedding collection set that includes everything you need....that way everything matches. The wedding collection shown to the right is available from Wedding Favors Unlimited. Brown and cream colored satin is accented with a cowboy boot charm to provide a Western flair. This particular collection includes a flower girl basket, ring pillow, unity candle, guest book and pen set, and the wedding garter. You can also find many other western style collections online.

Send your guests home with wedding favors that have a country flair. The little cowboy hats shown to the right are sized perfectly to fill with candy or other little trinkets for your wedding guests to enjoy. Other ideas for favors might include hat or boot shaped cookie cutters, mini hay bale shaped blondie brownies covered in shredded coconut, cowboy boot-shaped vases and even lucky horseshoe key rings.

Country Western Wedding Cakes
Another find from the Here Comes The Blog - Wedding Blog is the collage of country western cakes shown above. Nine cakes with nine different unique and distinct styles are represented. Everything from western style belt buckles to lucky horseshoes to hay bales are part of these cake designs. My personal favorite is the hay bale cake in the upper left corner. It appears that square cake tiers were frosted and then covered with a layer of toasted coconut to get the hay or straw bale appearance. Then edible rope and twine along with cowboy hats and horse shoes were added to embellish the design. Finally a western style wedding cake topper was added for the finishing touch.
You can find many country western cake toppers at Wedding Favors Unlimited. Cake toppers are a great way to finish off the cake design and they make a great keepsake that you can cherish for years to come. Below, you can see one of my favorites - the western rodeo cake topper which features a humorous couple. The bride has roped her cowboy groom - too funny!

So cute! My friend had a barn/cowboy wedding and it was really cute. The only thing about a barn wedding is that they can get really warm in the summer with a lot of people in there. So I'd suggest if you're doing that to do a Fall or Spring wedding for sure.

I want another wedding too - I would totally do a country western theme! I would love to have a horse and carriage ride for the bride and groom, square dancers entertaining the guests and two step lessons before the big day. Excellent suggestions!
