Cougar Women

I cut my teeth writing on Hubpages back in 2009. I've written 17 novels, numerous songs, and short stories since. I love to write love.

Beauty is ageless in the eyes of those who can see.

As I remember, from a boy's point of view, older women were more a part of young fantasies than girls. While the girls rolled their eyes at his antics, an older womanwould smile. She was smiling, not to embarrass him. She wasn't really impressed that he could juggle his shoes and hat while blowing a bubble gum bubble. She was just being nice.

Of course, he thought that one little smile meant she wanted to ravage his body, especially if she was recently divorced. Usually teachers or moms of friends couldn't resist the 14 hairs he had on his chest. The most embarrassing moments were voice changes and trying to hide swelling when his friend's mom was walking around in a swimsuit.

Boys learn how to lie from turning fantasy into a great story about having wild sex with an older woman. The boy dare not reveal her name because he is so honorable. He promised her he would never kiss and tell. Older women are simply a mystery to boys and it doesn't stop there.

When boys become young men, they are very attracted to young women but that older woman thing still lingers in their minds. If they find themselves in a relationship with an older woman, they usually screw it up by treating her like a girlfriend. A older woman can read him faster than a cheap comic book. She has dealt with men, she knows men, she is smart.

The "Cougar Woman" has been around since the beginning of relationships. It isn't a new fad, it is just talked about more through the media outlets. I wrote a song about such a relationship more than twenty years ago. Here are the Lyrics:

Cougar Woman

I was 23 and she was 41

We watched the sun come up seven days

She was too wise and I was to young

I thought for sure she would see things my way

I said, "I love you" and she said, "Boy, there's more to love than meets your eyes."

She stood up with just my shirt on and said, "Let's make a good...goodbye."

Time takes beauty to the heart

And brings it out again

We were some 18 years apart

If I could go back to then

We would still be lovin'

Scroll to Continue

She is 49 and I am 31

I met her accidentally yesterday

She still looks beautiful and young

I mentioned love and she said, "It's too late."

But she said yes when she heard me say

Time takes beauty to the heart

And brings it out again

We were some 18 years apart

If I could go back to then

We would still be lovin'

I don't know for sure but I believe you have to be a man to really appreciate an older woman. I could use the old,"vintage wine" line here but it just sounds lame. I don't even think it is about sexual or emotional experience either.

I think that older women carry a kind of mystery in their hearts that men search for and never find. I just never felt that when I was dating younger women in my 20s. I see a kind of intensity in older women's eyes that takes years to develop. There is peace in her smile but one had best not disturb that peace.

I believe that an older woman can have a wonderful relationship with a younger man, if he indeed is a worthy man.

Even the "Old Days" had Cougar Women.

Loving to dance.

I am not going to pretend that I know a lot about women. I do know that women want love, respect and security. Any man who has ever claimed to figure women out is a man who doesn't know what rolling her eyes means.

Back in the 1980s, I played guitar and sang in a Country band. One of my favorite songs to sing was called,"Older Women," originally recorded by Roddy McDowell. From 18 to 80, the ladies would hit the dance floor and sing along with me.

One of my fondest memories was playing that song for them. They were all beautiful.

Paula......LOL, Thank you. Those clones would need a little more hair and less tummy.

Thanks for giving me a big smile this morning. :)

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on March 03, 2018:

Yves.....Thank you for your kind comment. I've always thought of myself being a lucky man. The women in my life, mostly my wife, Tammy, have been graceful and loving souls. I believe most women are. Thanks again. :)

Suzie from Carson City on March 01, 2018:

Tom.....Please make a public announcement when you've successfully cloned yourself a few hundred times?

Also, if you would please, make sure one of your copies is in his 60's, this grandma would be quite happy. :) Paula

Yves on February 28, 2018:

Been there, done that. Some of the best memories of my life. Lol. But more importantly, I adore your appreciation and respect for women. Your wife is a lucky lady. Thank you for a lovely and refreshing piece about felines of the human kind. I loved it.

Yoleen Lucas from Big Island of Hawaii on January 03, 2013:

I LOVE THIS!!! I admit, I'm attracted to younger men myself, and am flattered that they like older women. I enjoy the vitality of younger men. I love watching them on their skateboards, listening to them talk about the sports they participate in, and their adventures.

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on July 12, 2012:

Thank you Maria.....I did learn respect....the hard way many times, through those who cared enough to teach me. Thanks for dropping by and keep smiling. :o)

Maria Jordan from Jeffersonville PA on July 10, 2012:

Really cool... somewhere along your 'journey' you have learned to understand and respect women...

and if you love country music, I know you're alright. Great song!

Voted UP & UABI. Have a peaceful night, Maria

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on April 18, 2011:

Thank you Nurul :)

Nurul Islam Lablu on April 18, 2011:

Fine. I agree. I enjoyed. I would like to thank you, dear writer.

Z-Lilly from Within on April 18, 2011:

Haha. That’s actually a really good idea... Thanks!

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on April 16, 2011: should write a hub about your pool boy experiences. :)

Z-Lilly from Within on April 15, 2011:

I am a young male and I can say there are truly a lot of cougars out there. Older women that want the thrill of a young man. I was a pool boy all through high-school and it was great. It was as if i was a part of a soap opera with all of the older women seducing me and luring me in with cold lemonade and peanut butter sandwiches!

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on December 21, 2010:

rx4u....thanks...LOL..."Cougar County"...that would make a great country song!

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on December 21, 2010:

Hi Bell and thank you....I remember so many times in my youth when guys thought older women wanted them. I thought it was hilarious then too. I would tell them,"Yeah...she smiles at does the bus driver."

I'm a big fan of you too. :)

rx4u on December 21, 2010:

Hey, this is great. I really have to admit, I live in Phoenix and Cougar Country is alive and well and growing. There are even special bars dedicated to this! Some day I may even have to check one out! :)

Bel Marshall from Michigan on December 21, 2010:

This should be required for many young boys. I had an incident about a year ago with a "boy" who decided that "I wanted him"...of course the three seconds in which I was in the line at Starbucks has me wanting him.

I personally happen to be a fan of grown, adult, mature men as I have found that a man that truly knows how to appreciate a woman on all levels is the sexiest man in town.

If all of your hubs are like this, I just became your biggest fan...though from the looks of things, you have many biggest fans around here.

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on November 18, 2010:

annie..thanks...I think I just might do an article on them. :)

annie on November 18, 2010:

good article, but you should have given specific examples like Demi and Ashton

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on October 23, 2010:

Thanks Dawn.....good advice...very good advice. :)

Dawn Michael from THOUSAND OAKS on October 23, 2010:

well Tom one secret to a woman in he late thirties and forties is that she now understands her body and can control her emotions better. She has gotten her "emotional kitty" undercontrol, where as a younger woman will not yet know how to use her peaks in her montly cycle to enhance sexual pleasure and to understand that you never tell a man how you are feeling while having your period, infact if you are dating you just close shope for a few days and then open up when the red tide no longer

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on May 23, 2010:

deepthought....thank you.... :)

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on April 29, 2010: kickin' high! :)

Annette Thomas from United States on April 29, 2010:

I guess it's makes me a Cougar woman..a married one! Over 50 and still kickin'!

Tammy Cornett from Ohio on April 28, 2010:

That's okay, Larkin...conquering countries in a cape is much safer than dealing with a cougar...hahaha! :D

Tom Cornett (author) from Ohio on April 27, 2010:

Dr. Larkin....LOL....capes are cool! :)

Dr. Larkin from In the portrait of a madman on April 27, 2010:

I was an odd boy, I used to only fantasize of wearing a cape and leading armies to conquer nearby countries. I eventually wizened up and realized that nobody would take me seriously if I wore a cape, so I started using trench coats instead.

Great hub

Pete Maida on April 24, 2010:

I've always been a fan of older women. I know it is terribly wrong but when I hear a story on the news about a female teacher having relations with a male student I think he was a lucky kid. She is probably a little nuts but he was a lucky kid.

Putz Ballard on April 24, 2010:

Good job Tom

ralwus on April 24, 2010:

I'm sure you know more than you're telling, sparing Tammy of course. You don't want to let on to her that you have her figured out. LOL You are a sly one my friend. Good job on this one and great lyrics too.

Tom Whitworth from Moundsville, WV on April 24, 2010:

In my one chance with a divorcee I was 13 and unfortunately for me my team mates on the baseball team were 16 and I got ignored. She was an alluring creature.
