10 Fun and Silly Things for Couples to do Together

Being silly, having fun - isn't that something that only kids do?

Aren't relationships supposed to be serious, I mean - how can we have romance if we're dancing around acting like 10-year-olds?

No, you probably wouldn't picture acting like a kid and being romantic in the same sentence, would you?

What you'd probably picture when thinking about a romantic date with your partner is dinner and a movie.

Not so? Boring...

But, that's not ALL that romance is about!

And no matter how long or short you've been together... there's nothing quite like surprising your partner with a fun, unexpected date!

Remember how carefree you were as a kid? Everything was fun, bright and filled with endless possibilities.

Now, remember those butterflies you felt in the pit of your stomach when you started dating your partner?

Sure, they might not be the same today as what they were back then, but that doesn't mean there's no room left to add a spark - or element of surprise to your relationship!

Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine. — Lord Byron

Feel like a kid again... with your partner!

Why can't you run around like an idiot with your partner on the beach like a couple of crazy kids?

Why do you need to get dressed up and go somewhere fancy for it to be considered spending quality time together?

Listen, you fell in love with your partner - not because they looked great going out or because they knew how to pick a good movie (well, maybe not the entire reason), but more than anything, it's because they made you laugh.

Here are a few ideas that can give you some inspiration on having some silly fun with your partner, and bring out the kid in both of you.

If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good. - Dr. Seuss

10 Ways to have CRAZY FUN with the one you love!

  1. Plan a Fun day at the Beach. Even if it's not summer, take the afternoon and hit the beach. Have a sandcastle building competition, race each other down the beach or into the water, eat ice-cream and splash each other in the water!
  2. Play a Kids Game. When was the last time you played Hide and Seek , the card game "Go Fish" or Charades ? You can even add some romance if you want to as the prize for the winner, e.g. the winner gets a half hour back massage.
  3. Get Physical. Choose an evening to play your favourite video games. Maybe you still have a Super Mario Brother's game hidden somewhere, or you have itchy feet to try that Dance Central game you've only played once by yourself.
  4. Visit an Amusement Park or Carnival. Go on the scariest ride and scream your lungs out. Laugh until you cry - release the kid in you!
  5. Have a Sleep Over. Yes, in your house - in the living room in front of the TV. Get in your PJ's, make popcorn, bring out the sweets and have a movie marathon evening with your partner. Watch comedy favourites that you both enjoy - maybe something silly like Dumb and Dumber, or what about your favourite childhood cartoons on the Cartoon channel? A
  6. Have a Pillow Fight! Remember how much fun it was jumping on the bed and whacking your brother or sister with a pillow? Of course you'll want to make sure you don't break the bed by jumping too hard, or hitting your partner so that it becomes a real war. Have fun, but be light and gentle about it.
  7. Bake Cupcakes. When last did you actually bake (or enjoy baking) cupcakes? I know - what guy enjoys baking cupcakes, right? Well - why not make it fun like it used to be when you were growing up. Throw names in a hat with the following - flavour, colour, decorations and wrapping paper style. You each choose two. Then visit a baking supply store and get creative! Get ideas for cupcake designs by visiting a few cake bakeries in your area. If he's lucky - he'll get the decorations and can make superhero cupcakes!
  8. Run in the Park. Pack a picnic filled with the things that you used to enjoy as kids - ginger snaps, lemonade, sour worms, hotdogs, etc. Take a blanket and find a (fairly secluded) grassy park with little hills. Feed each other, run around and play touch, roll down the hill, have a tickle war - just go crazy!
  9. Go out for a Banana Split. Remember how good these were? If you can't find a place that serves this, go out for chocolate cake, or even a milkshake! On the way in the car, play games like "I Spy with My Little Eye" to keep things fun.
  10. Get Spooky. Similar to the Sleepover idea, except the theme for the night is Horror movies. Light the fire, or bring out the old Fondue set. Eat chocolate, roast marshmallows, have hot cocoa. See who can tell the scariest ghost story!

Okay, now that you've seen a couple of fun and crazy ways to get silly and romantic with your partner, which one would you do?

Choose from the poll below!

Make your pick!

Love these fun activities for couples to do together. Sometimes the routine things can lose the excitement and tend to be the same old things, so it is always great to explore new ways to have fun.

Hi Dianna! :) So good to be back here again. I haven't tried the cupcakes one yet... although I was thinking about having some fun making ice cream sundaes at home. That could be quite interesting, lol!

Good to see you Mel! I'm all for the sleepover and movies. Can we also bake cupcakes to add the enjoyment -- perfect ending! Love your ideas that will help couples build a great relationship.

Interesting hub indeed...sometimes life becomes so boring for couples with day today chores and same routines. Your ideas are fun filled. I liked running on the beach and pillow fight most :)

Haha! Thanks Bill... and don't worry, I don't take offence because it's really been THAT long since I've been here. But, I saw Cyndi came back and thought - well, I missed writing here a lot. I missed the community of it. And I'm not bothered with the other stuff anymore - the reason I left in the first place. Hope to catch up on some of your inspiring hubs too soon. :)

Okay, I have a confession to make...when I saw this hub pop up on the feed I had to take a second to figure out who Melchi was. It's been awhile since you wrote a hub, so I don't feel too bad for my temporary memory lapse. Nice to see you with a hub again Mel, and the message is a great one...couples need to re-discover the fun in their relationship. Well done!
