Zig Even When Feeling the Pressure to Zag; Character Matters
Classy Move
This may be old news for you, if so, bear with me.
I have been trying to focus more on updating a few existing articles, while dealing with life stuff, and coming to the realization that I haven't been paying much attention to what's currently in the news.
I know, that's probably a good thing, but what I write about, the majority of the time is...
what's in the News
So I can't stay out of the loop for too long!
The story I stumbled across was about Republican V. P. contender J.D. Vance being denied campaign access at a stop in Pennsylvania. Yes, I took the bait --- I clicked and then I clicked several other sources in order to be clear on what had actually happened.
He and his entourage were denied entry into a sandwich shop, one among a chain. Another location had already made the news a month or so before, when Kamala Harris stopped in. She was not denied entry, but the visit was nevertheless controversial, because patrons were asked to leave to make room for bused-in patrons.
Back to J.D.!
Apparently, the manager of the restaurant was overwhelmed with J.D.'s genuine, grassroots fan base and she needed him (and them) to go!
He could have handled it two different ways:
By making a scene and the restaurant and manager's life a living hell in the process
Or
By graciously exiting
He chose the latter, but it didn't end there!
Before leaving, he paid for the patrons who were there ahead of him and once outside, told the crowd that he understood, and basically for them not to be too hard on the restaurant.
I don't think that any of the patrons who were already there were ever asked to leave, but I am not clear on that. I think I would have left, based on principle, but that's just me.
Vance also left money for those who are working at making a living, via serving!
Reminding them that with a Trump-Vance Administration, there will be no tax collected on tips received.
Classy!
Stark Contrast
I also came across Kamala Harris' response...or rather gloat, over this ordeal!
Sharing on social media "Unlike Republicans, Democrats are welcome in polite society."
Smugly secure with the image that while she was inside hobnobbing, he was out on the curb. The restaurant catering to the gander, but not the goose.
Never seeing, and I would suggest because she doesn't have the innate ability to see nor understand, the overall big picture!
Character in action!
A classy move.
Choosing the high road, when the low road is right there for the taking.
J.D. Vance chose not to take the low road, but Kamala Harris did not hesitate!
He zigged when many, hopefully not most but many, including Harris, would zag!
I touched on this subject matter when I updated a 'Sports' article, written a few years back.
My favorite football team, the Miami Dolphins, were up by 50 points and could have easily taken it higher, adding insult to the injury {so to speak} in doing so. Also in doing so, they would have captured the most points scored in an NFL regular season game, held the title and bragging rights.
But that's not what the head coach did.
He allowed his character to shine through instead
He chose not to add insult to the already stinging injury by choosing not to humiliate the opposing team nor their Coach, whom he has great respect for.
A lot of people, a lot fans, were disappointed with this decision, but by taking the high road, zigging when all figured he would, and should... zag, Coach McDaniel, stood apart!
Given another opportunity, he may not make the same decision; it was the right decision at that moment, in that particular situation.
Same with J.D., another place, another town, a different vibe may not garner the same reaction, and that's okay too.
Therein lies a lesson!
The Nitty Gritty
On down the road, this may not be remembered!
Odds are good, in these times we are in, that it will be remembered differently than how it actually went down. Because that’s what politics does, that’s what mainstream media does! Sadly, I must add media because they no longer report the news fairly, they all seem to have an angle.
Some much worse and much more obvious (and obnoxious) than others. But, this too has also been discussed in previous articles, so I’ll leave it here.
It is part of our job as the overseers, the Managers if you will, the Constituents of this great Republic, to make decisions which best suit this Nation.
We can’t be looking to the loudest mouth on television, the flashiest celebrities, the boldest print, we have to gather the facts, do our homework and…. always listen to our gut in making such important decisions!
How a person running for higher office responds to people, events, situations - even when they are caught off guard, says a lot about that person!
We shouldn’t have to look hard for character, it should be obvious to us!
It is my job to decipher, cut through the gunk and get to the crux of the matter.
If we cannot be bothered to do that, we shouldn’t bother to vote!
