Female Foeticide: Heinous Crime Against Women
The term female foeticide means killing the female fetus in the womb. How cruel? The practice has been followed in India for ages, a country that once described its women as godessess. For this reason, Indian women will soon get extinct. Surprised? The most active part is being played by women themselves -- why? Just for the mere want of a boy, mothers don't feel pain in strangulating their daughters in their wombs. Can anyone be more cruel?
In India, sex ratio stands at a paltry 933:1000, i.e., 67 women short of every 1,000 males. Can you imagine how bad the situation is -- in the coming times, the boys of this country will have to remain single because there will be no girls for them to marry.
Ever thought why mothers are being forced to kill their daughters even before they are born? How can mothers be so cruel to their own daughters - their own shadows? As far as I can think, the main reason behind this gruesome scenario is society - where girls are not treated equal, where girls are looked down upon, and where parents of the girl child have to pay dowry to get their daughters married of.
When a girl takes birth, parents have to bear the burden of bringing her up. Then, in today's scenario, girls have to be provided education, so the burden of educating someone who will leave the parents' house for her husband's place is too much. The mere thought of this sends a few parents shivering. Some parents feel they are wasting their precious resources on someone who will not remain their own. Besides, another reason for female foeticide is that protecting and safeguarding the girl child has become an uphill task for families, as the crime rate against women is on the rise. How bad? For this reason,a few parents debar their daughters from going outside and they have to stay home away from the rest of the world.
Women are subjected to cruelty from the male section of this so-called advanced society. Even educated women face such treatment, what to talk about uneducated, illiterate women. Then last but not the least, the bride price or dowry is a factor which is the prime killer of many girls after marriage. The greed for getting more money and resources from the girl's family pushes the in-laws of many girls towards killing them. How sad! Few are forced to end their lives themselves.
There are frequent incidents of acid attacks, rape, molestation and discrimination against girls. These are a few reasons that force most parents to treat their daughters, born or unborn, as a burden. So by killing their unborn daughters in the womb, such parents try to get rid of the burden of raising a girl child.
Sex Determination Tests
These days sex determination procedure has proved a bane for the girl child. Law forbids sex determination tests; however, despite this, they continue to have their hold in India. Many doctors illicitly collaborate with parents of the girl child to abort the fetus after determining its sex. How cruel?
What Can We Do
Today, it is the responsibility of the educated generation to stir a revolution for saving the girl child. We need to educate those educated as well as uneducated ignorant people who commit such heinous crimes as female infanticide. Raising awareness about this issue will certainly help. Every person can play a part in making others aware of this cruelty, which is a crime. Some villages in India have no girls - boys are unable to find a life partner, merely because unborn girl children in those villages were killed in the womb years ago. The statistics are only rising.
It is the duty of every responsible citizen of this country to raise awareness about the issue of female foeticide.
- Television can play a big role in awakening and propagating this message by broadcasting programs concerning the issue.
- Even advertisements in this regard can play a big role in changing the mind-set of people against female foeticide.
- Movies, theater plays can be created focusing on women and girl child.
- Government campaigns in the most vulnerable parts would also bring a change.
- Strict legal action against the culprit parents, doctors, and relatives will set a precedent.
My own story as a girl
I am a girl, who is surviving today because my parents did not kill me in the womb. They allowed me to enjoy my pre-natal life, take birth in this world, revel in my childhood, experience all the luxuries of life, study in a top school and leading university in the state, venture out to the Indian capital for further my academic record, choose my own career, and marry the boy of my choice. Yes, I had all these luxuries and liberties.
But do all girls have such liberty in this country?
Yes, I had all these luxuries and liberties. But are all Indian girls as lucky? Alas, they are not. Therefore, I pay gratitude to my parents for helping me stand on my feet and live the life I had always cherished, seeing the dreams I always wanted to realize.
Had my parents, too, killed me as an unborn child like many other parents, would you be reading this hub?
Was I not allowed to take birth, would I have been able to see this world full of beauty as well as beasts.
If this heinous practice of female foeticide continues unabated, it will be a welcome invitation to gay culture. Are we ready for that? I don't think, a country like India will ever accept the same. We are already starting to see glimpses of the advent of gay culture in India.
This is my earnest request to all those who consider daughters a burden to let their girls come in this world. Remember, a daughter is yours for life, a son is yours until wife.
So, my dear friends, especially Indians and all those would-be parents, do not nip the bud of baby girls in the womb, do not snatch away the right of taking birth from your daughter. She deserves to see this world as much as your son. May be she will be the one who will change your life for the better. On the other side, if girls are continued to be killed in the womb, your sons or the Gen-X boys will not get brides. If you do not want such a scenario to take place, kindly ignite the love for daughters in this world and make it more beautiful!!!!!!
Save the girl child - save this world!

I am a 09 (nine) year old boy and I have 02 (two) elder sisters one has just started her higher education for medical course and the other is in the nearby school.
Having elder sister is great and amazing. They are gifted with ocean of affectionate, caring and lovingly. I feel I must be the lucky child with the God almighty " DONYI POLO gifted these soft spoken and cute smiling sisters in my family to whom my parents also lots of love and encouragements.
One of my friend have 03 (three) elder brothers and also a married elder sister. Two of his elder brothers are married and are in govt. job and lives away from home. Both of them become master drunker and brutally tortures and even beats their parent and demands their share of properties whenever they comes to home on long live and in those days my friend's parent have to pass through most of the times sleepless nights.
His elder sister who is also married gives lots of love and affection and gives time to time visits and taking care of any problems. Her husband is truly kind and caring of their in-laws always comes with something, taking my friend's parent for outings and leaves them in happy mood. Whenever she comes she does all kitchen and household works too.
I must also agree that "a daughter is for life, a son is until wife". But it must also be agreed that all sons are not equal and most of things matters with how we build our society where we are living and part of it if you accept or rejects being a human being, we have to protect our own rich values of life cumming down from the generations, any the scratches in it or practicing artificial of things in this and that pretexts are ruing our human values and the real face of affections and compassion as we daily noticing people quarreling about that my religion is original, more powerful and genuine or largest, riches and make rich or fulfill all desires of those who worship or converts to such religions and in such way creating panic, distrust and law and order situations through which all have to burn this and that ways. So the girls or women are mostly getting victimizing and the impact of such inhumanity also not sparing the boys too of immorality and artificiality who meant their life and happy all rest in wealth and PAISA and doing them care that also hurts and kills others and thereby infects like an epidemic disease. These are all happening in the society. Does the so called people's government only to resolve this out of the savings from cancerous scandals and Scams through which even buys during elections even those of most intellectuals of their selfish concerns. Unless these virus and bacterias come to the purification terms of humanity things may remain in the law books and electoral slogans and poster and banners by even so called social workers making money and fame with ground level zero and seen mostly in the TV channels shouting in the air condition rooms, cars, offices and charming firm houses and resorts and have no ground realities about tru Indian habitats and people living hand to mouth and burning under the flame of soaring market prices, corruptions and insecurity of life become the order of the days.
Let us respect our sentiments and perceptions at our level and sort out or hammer out the real creams for the good of the future generation and save earth and Girl Child in India atleast.

" ME AND MY SISTER " --- The Assamese feature film which will release on 29th june 2012. The film deals with the impact of the act of female foeticide on the child. An educated couple are shown to be troubled , harassment of women and panic at the thought that their coming child would be a girl. They even think of killing the foetus. The internal conflicts and anxiety of the pregnant women throws light on the issue. But as , it happens, the woman bears the foetus of twins, a MALE and a FEMALE. The twins talk inside the womb about the world outside where women are not secure. The story artistically depicts today's burning social issue like female foeticide, stressing specially on the rights of woman in the perspective of the changes taking place in the 21st century. The film , shot in Cinemascope 35mm , Produce by Nipon Dholua under banner NBDK PRODUCTION.
The film, ‘Me and My Sister’, deals with the impact of the act of female foeticide on a child.?Geetartha, Chandana and their only son Akash are living their life with all happiness. Chandana is carrying and is now at primary stage. Geetartha makes sincere efforts to boost up her spirit and confidence while Dr Jharna, a gynecologist and their family friend, provides her with all medical care to ensure smooth and safe birth of the unborn.
A responsible government officer, Geetartha, one day finds a young lady refusing to accept the award ‘Woman of the Year’, a state award of high esteem. Back home, Geetartha shares his feelings with Chandana, who, on hearing the name of the lady and then seeing her photograph, comes to know that Dolly, the lady, was her best friend during college days.
Chandana is deeply concerned about the trauma and agony in the life of Dolly and her little daughter Shikha. Along with her husband Geetartha and son Akash, Chandana provides mental support to Dolly and thus she becomes involved with Dolly’s life. Sometimes, one or two disturbing incidents in Dolly’s day-to-day life fetch Chandana mental anxiety, tension which is harmful for her at this very stage of pregnancy.
In the mean time, Dr Jharna after a routine check up of Chandana finds that she is carrying a twins. This makes both Chandana and Geetartha ecstatic. But Akash is more excited about his sister to be born.?
Days pass on and the event of the award presentation function is nearing. Dolly is adamant in her decision not to receive the award because she does not believe that this award could neither change whatever already has happened to her life nor will bring any change to her future life. She simply and silently leaves the township along with her little daughter Shikha.
One day, Chandana suddenly falls ill and starts feeling labour pain. At the hospital Dr Jharna tells Geetartha that she is not in a condition now to deliver birth to two babies, and, therefore, one baby in her womb has to be spoiled. Geetartha has no other means for the sake of life of Chandana.?When Chandana is taken to operation theatre, Dolly and Shikha drop in at the hospital. Geetartha, stunned on seeing Dolly after her sudden disappearance, is elated to know that Dolly has come back only to receive the award which will be presented in a glamorous function that evening by the Chief Minister. Dolly tells Geetartha that she will receive the award not for her but for and on behalf of Chandana, the lady who has undergone so much of pain and agony while standing beside unfortunate Dolly and Shikha. ?The operation is successful and it fetches Chandana another son. Geetartha is happy to see his wife Chandana alive perfectly and also to find one more son coming to his family. Back home in Geetartha-Chandana’s place, Akash still waits for his sister who, in fact, was already committed from their life. Forever……………………………….

SAVE GIRL CHILD--- BETI BACHVO
SUB: COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS TO CURB FEMALE FETICIDE
I Dr Rajni contractor M.D (Gynaec) practinsing as a private Gynecologist since 20 yr, proud to be father of having only single girl child age 17 yr.
? Census 2011 shows decline number of girl in population in matter of great & serious concern to us.
? Latest UN report says 50 million girls are missing from Indian population. As a result of gender discrimination.
Recently few days back “Thomas Roiter foundations trust law for women, in their survey “most dangerous countries for women in world are
1 – Afghanistan, 2 – Congo, 3 – Pakistan, 4 – India, 5 – Somalia
Where the female are not safe before & after birth
? According to British Magazine Lancet approximate 1 crore female feticide done between 1980-2010 in India.
? According to the study done by UNICEF 7000 female child are being killed everyday in India.
? In Rajasthan about 6 to 6.5 lakh feticide have been done in the past five years.
? In Devda village of Jeslamer district of Rajasthan at present there are only 12 girls in the 25,000 population which shows how significantly lower the female sex ration is in that village.
? In Varacha area Surat district of Gujarat the sex ratio is 780 females per 1000 males.
? In Delhi 5000 females are reported to be lost in the last 6 months.
? In Punjab 275 girl are killed daily before they born
? Following states where female sex ratio at birth & 0-6years are below than expectations
Female feticide inhuman barbaric & illegal crime committed by highly educated and respected person of civil society whom some one consider as role model- doctors gynecologist and radiologist in so many states/ UTS .
Way in which female feticide are done by our colleuge doctor is really painful & disappointed & deeply hurt all of us lot.
Being gynecologist I know modus operandy of sono/gynecologist it’s very difficult to catch but I have a master action plan (MAP).
So many medicines openley sell in the market with out doctor’s prescription use for female feticide is a clear cut violation of MTP ACT 2002 and MTP RULE 2003.
“BETI BACHVO – SAVE GIRL CHILD”
(1) Special “PNDT CELL” should be established.
(2) “CENTRAL TASK FORCE “should be formed under chief secretary of health family welfare dept.
(3) “ STATE TASK FORCE “ formed under chairmanship of state appropriate authority to monitor and checking of nursing homes & imaging sonography diagnostic centers were sex determination is being done & MTP center.
(4) “DISTRICT TASK FORCE “under chairmanship of collector include SDM / SP/ CDHO/ BHO as a member.
(5) Team of intelligence Network and informer (private gynecologist) / NGOs/ ash worker should be established give secret and confiditionatal information to state appropriate authority confidentinally.
(6) NIMC – national inspecting monitoring committee
SIMC—state inspecting mentoring committee
Should be formed including very intelligent officers.
(7) NIMC –should surprise and secret visit to different States/UTs to see state activity regarding prevention of female feticide.
(8) SIMC should visit city and village to see appropriate authority doing their duties regarding
PC & PNDT act properly or not.
(9) NIMC -- SIMC should do more string opperation of doctors who are doing such inhuman crime in sting operation including doctor as a team member because doctor knowing smart ness, cleverness, & weakness of doctor very well.
madam I and my wife Krishna and my only daughter Rajvi work very hard and go to many cities and villages and make public awareness about Beti Bachhoo and save girl child theme in navaratari mela & religious festival since five year .
NRHM PROGRAM I am working very hard regarding HIV-AIDS / TB program / Thalassaemia / sicklecell anemia / Jannisuraksha independently I do not belong to any orgnation and NGOs.
I help in adoption of 12-18 new born girl child to infertile couple including 1 is my sister.
I have prepared Hardcopy of 40 pages How to Implement PC&PNDTact by appropriate authority include various section of PC&PNDTact violated or not
FORM.-F is filling by doctors properly or not
How-to do proper &correct PANCHNAMA at time of sealing of sonography Machine.
madam I have enough technical legal knowledge.
PNDT section -23 /1 fine of 10000 and 50000 ,3yr impriosment & 5 yr impriosment for first and subsequent offence my suggestion is 3lak and 5 yr impriosment / 5lak & 10 yr imprisoment if possible implement.
PNDT section 23/2 state medical council shall suspend registration of RMP till the case is dispose onces the charge frame by court.
About PC&PNDTACT MTPACT I have taken so many lectures to Govt authority& doctors sir sonography was DISSERTATION in my MD exam I know sonography better I make up my mind that not bring sonographi machine.
I am glad to inform you that I have managed to convince & change the mind set of about 37 Doctors of different cities of Gujarat. I have full proof evidence & accurate details, Name, address and telephone nos. of the patients to whom they might have violate PC & PNDT Act.
I am happy to inform you that I have received Positive and Satisfied Response from many Doctors and we have even recorded in many nursing home of Gujarat the Case where in a Woman have delivered 3rd Female after delivered 2 female babies earlier.
In my 20 years of private practice from day ONE to till Today have not brought USG machine
No one doctorscolleuge- govt authority points a finger towards me regarding female feticide or other illegal activity so my integrity is never question by any one.
I & my Dr. Friend make a DVD of 25-minits in which “MISSING GIRL” tell her story to doctor & public don’t throw me in a dustbin. I have a full right to live as you are. It’s a really good opportunity to watch & it effect deeply & change the heart & mentality of the so many people & doctors have tears in there eyes & take an oath that they will never involve in such in human crime.
Female feticide Is a violation of both PC/PNDT /MTP ACT are the two side of same coin.
60-80% MTP done in unregistered MTP center by unqualified doctor.
10-20% maternal mortality are due to MTP complication.
My MAP will definitely help govt. authority to curb the female feticide & catch the culprit & able to make strong case against culprit in court.
Approximate 42200 USG machine registered under PC & PNDT act, in India 900 machine were sealed. Only 55 have a conviction so conviction rate is only 5%. It worries all of us.
Respected sir I have a hard copy of master action plan (MAP) which is highly effective justifiable and viable within the full legal respects of PC& PNDT ACT, MTP ACT to stop female feticide easily without harassing doctor community. In addition, it will save thousands and lakhs of girls who are being killed in the mother’s womb without mercy.
sir if we all are not serious about female feticide this time in future it will give rise to dangerous adverse effect on HUMAN DEVLOPMENT INDEX, MMR, IMR,FEMALE CHILD SEX RATIO. And social crime likes RAP, DOWRY DEATH, HONOR KILLING, etc…
Violation of the PC & PNDT ACT is a clear cut violation of ARTICLE-14, ARTICLE-21of constitution.
With all my positive spirit, faith & up to best of my knowledge in the field, I am forwarding this information to your capable hands to take this matter further.
sir it is my humble request & will be my pleasure if I will be invited to meet & share my views & document to appropriate concern person through your channel.
Thanks & Regards,
Dr. Rajni H. contractor MD (Gynaec)
