Local Hubbard, Ohio Gift Shop Helps to Fight Cancer

The founder,Goldie, has been fighting what started out as breast cancer for 16 years or so. It has been just about everywhere in her body at one time or another, but she and her husband are tough and have helped each other though it all.
Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer just before 5 pm on Monday, March 25th, 2013, but her daughter continues on with the local awareness campaign.

And, on January 1, 2013 the owner's Sister-In-Law, who was only 48 years old, lost her battle with an aggressive lung cancer. She was the youngest in that family.

So, this little, local business does what it can, in the community, to do some cancer awareness and cancer patient relief fundraising.

Cancer is Scary for the Fighter and for the Family and Friends

Do what you can to offer support
Maybe that is having coffee together every week as usual.
Maybe that is helping with the chores.
Maybe that is donating to the cause.
Maybe, it is walking the dog every day for a few weeks because he/she doesn't have the strength right now.
Maybe it is a quick phone call or text to say you're thinking about him/her.
Maybe it is a prayer to ask for the strength that all of you will need.
Maybe it is going with him/her to doctors appointments to take notes and help ask questions or even just sit quietly in support, maybe just be the driver - whatever is needed.
Whatever it is, thank you !

Hubbard Ohio Gift Shop Shows Support for Cancer Fighters

Local folks, and visitors, who shop there have been getting an extra way to show some support for breast cancer fighters by stopping in and getting one of our famous, mega-sized pink ribbon breast cancer awareness pens that are so nice for folks who have bad hands and have a tough time with the regular pens.
Anyone can get one for free with any $15 or more in-store purchase!

We are just about out of them now and thank you to all of you who have stopped in for one. Not sure if we will have these every year, but we will always have some sort of "pink ribbon" items and other events for the cause here.

Please use these pink ribbon cancer awareness items in her honor to remind yourself and/or your loved ones to be vigilant.

When You Think of Breast Cancer, Who Comes to Mind?

For me, it's my Mom who is THE strongest woman that I know. (Before that, it was her Mom - my Grandmother.)

She was the reason that I took over the Hubbard Ohio Gift Shop as her breast cancer had come back after over 10 years and had spread everywhere.
She loved waiting on her customers and showing off her collection of vintage jewelry... and comes in when she can to sell her vintage jewelry and glassware so having me run the gift shop for her was my gift to her. We lost her on March 25, 2013.

If you're local, stop by at 6177 Youngstown-Hubbard Road in Hubbard, Ohio to cheer us on and help us keep our sales up so we can stay open and be able to keep donating gift baskets and gift certificates... to our various local community's cancer fundraising efforts.

On March 25, 2013 Mom lost her battle with cancer - So I have a special fundraiser this month in her honor each year

Mom, Vintage Jewelry dealer and co-owner of our little Hubbard Ohio Gift Shop - now called: Diana's Gift Shop

Mom, Vintage Jewelry dealer and co-owner of our little Hubbard Ohio Gift Shop - now called: Diana's Gift Shop

March 25, 2013 is when my Mom lost her 16 year battle with what started out as breast cancer and then came back years later in her lungs, spine, bones and finally in her liver... :(

So, there is always some sort of special event in her honor at this little shop that she started.

For all sales of items in the Hubbard, Ohio Gift Shop - called: Diana's Gift Shop each March, September (her birth month) and October that are PINK or anything in Goldie's booth, 10% of the profits from those sales will be set aside and used them so that we can continue to acquire our famous pink mega pens or wrist bands or something for pink ribbon awareness in Goldie's honor and we'll try to keep making a few donation baskets for local cancer fundraisers that are held by our good customers.

Not local? Find VintageJewelryByGramz online to see a fifty year collection.

Lung cancer awareness - I used to smoke 2-3 packs a day so I worry about lung cancer - but even non-smokers can get it.

My super brave Sister-in-Law just lost her battle with lung cancer at age 48 on January 1, 2013 (yesterday, as I write this).

Please don't start smoking.

If you are a smoker, please stop.

Yes, it can be VERY hard to stop smoking, but when you do - you'll be so glad that you did :)

If you don't want to quit for yourself, please quit for those people and pets who live around you. They shouldn't have to suffer because of your choices.

I remember when my kids were little I'd ONLY smoke on a different area than them and thought that the smoke wouldn't reach the rooms that they were in. Years later, after I had finally quit and was scrubbing down walls and windows... I was so upset by the yellow/brown gunk that was on those surfaces and realized that the smoke was coating their lungs during those years too !

Again, do what you can to show support even if all you can do is offer a REAL smile - it can help brighten someone's day.

All of us are fighting some sort of battle, be it cancer, depression, financial... so be kind.

Nice lens about an emotive subject! The positive thing is that there are now so many natural preventatives and cures that have been discovered and proven to work (perhaps one of the most powerful is hemp oil)!!!
