Throughout my life, I have been greatly influenced by Nelson Mandela, the first African president of South Africa. His resilience and motivation to fight and sacrifice for his people is truly unmatched. In this world of self-centered people, how someone would sacrifice his family, children and comfort for a greater picture as Mandela did still baffles me. This man spent close to a decade just to secure freedom for South Africans. Remember he had a wife and children to take care of! Apart from this burning desire and passion to end segregation and apartheid in this country, Mandela was also full of wisdom. He is credited for one of the most quotes globally; “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” I believe his life is a lesson and role model to many: particularly on the role of dedication and passion in achieving designated goals. Nelson Mandela’s sacrifice did not only leave a notable mark on his life but also all over the world. Despite his demise few years ago, he will live to be remembered for his exemplified compassion and commitment and how these efforts worked to save an entire nation from bondage.
