What Is His Beef?

At first, he was protesting the killing of blacks by police. The group BLM seems to have an impact on him. Now, it seems he is protesting our founding Fathers and our history. I am beginning to wonder, if he knows what our history was? And what exactly he is protesting about.

Nike should be ashamed of itself. They used this man for profit. Create a controversy, get some free publicity, start people talking and sales goes through the roof... This latest shoe design is a case in point.

A Better Way...

If Colin Kaepernick really wants to make a difference, he should take a lesson from Peter Westbrook. An Olympian Fencer, who used his fame and accomplishment to help thousands of inner city, underprivileged kids. He started a Foundation that is doing good in his community. What did Kaepernick do with his fame?

Book Review...

Peter Westbrook wrote a book about his struggle growing up as a black kid in Newark, NJ. The title of the book is

Harnessing Anger: The Inner Discipline of Athletic Excellence

In Harnessing Anger, Westbrook tells how he came to be the first African American to win a national gold title in sabre fencing. The son of an African-American father and a Japanese mother, Peter was aised by his mother alone in poverty in a Newark ghetto. Becoming a fencer at an early age gave him the confidence and the discipline to use an ancient martial art to his advantage both in fencing and when facing the challenges of daily life in the inner city.

His foundation was his way of giving back. While growing up poor, he showed talent in the sport of saber fencing. He was given a free membership at the Fencers Club and took lessons from maestros. Having achieved Olympic fame, he wanted to give the same opportunity to other inner city kids in NY to learn discipline and competitive fencing. Many have become Olympians in their own right.

If Black Lives Really Matters...

Why is this flag from our history a controversy?

I don’t get it. Apparently, it was not while Obama was inaugurated President in 2009.

Where was Colin then? Or Nike? Or BLM?

Check out these flags...

Colin Kaepernick, you are a fake, phony and a fraud. Shame on you.

If BLM really care about the killing of blacks, they will do more to avert the violence in Chicago. They will vote out the Democrats who control that crooked city forever. They would hire Rudolph Giuliani to revamp the police department.

Summary

How should our country deal with this situation? My advice is to use our pocketbooks. This is the free enterprise system. As consumers and citizens, our power resides with our dollars. If Nike, wants to go down this road, fine. I will shop elsewhere. There are plenty of over prices tennis shoes that are just as stylish and just as comfortable...

Jack....I have not wasted my precious time nor energy to try to learn what it is that offends this goon so terribly. I simply do not care. I could spend the next few minutes to list what offends me about him (and those who follow him, like the empty-headed sheep they are,) but again....I can't be bothered to give him even a smidgen of my concern.

Shortly after Nike made their tragic error, I pulled out a huge box from my attic, loaded with Nike products. I raised 4 athletes. One can only imagine the massive bucks I gave Nike, Put them all out front on a lawn table with a "FREE" sign. The local scavengers picked them up within minutes!

Good article. Poor Colin,,,,pathetic loser. Peace, Paula

Jack,

The great irony is that Betsy Ross was an abolitionist. Here is an excerpt from the article I will supply below "a slave named James Armistead represented the color blue because his vigilance as a spy led to America’s victory in the final battle at Yorktown in 1781."

Colin Kaepernick is a whiny bozo who is still a boy, not a man.. He is bi-racial, was adopted by white parents and lived a privileged life. He made 7 million a year in the NFL and is worth 20 million today. But apparently, all the wealth he has gained due to being an American isn't good enough for him. What a jerk. I have zero respect for him.

wba108@yahoo.com from upstate, NY on July 05, 2019:

If I had to guess, i'd say he's probably drank the usual politically correct cool aid about racism but more importantly is trying to boost his sales numbers as a necessity to compensate for his disappointing career.

Jack Lee (author) from Yorktown NY on July 04, 2019:

What a disgrace. He could have done so much good to help his people. Instead, he chose to stir up more divide and hatred for our country.

breakfastpop on July 04, 2019:

He is , or should be, irrelevant. He has nothing going for him now, so he has turned hatred of America into a career. Shame on him and shame on Nike for their ugly decision. The flag is a symbol of liberty, and Betsy Ross in particular was an abolitionist. The left doesn' know a thing about history. If he hates our nation so much, I suggest he hop over to Venezuela and try things out.

Linda, I am sorry you took offense to my comment. i have relatives that live in Seattle, and I visit that city quite a few times. My comments speaks to the truth. If you find it harsh, I can’t help that. I just see a growing problem there with the homeless. It may not be on target with this article I readily admit it.

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on July 03, 2019:

Jack, your comment to me is off topic and not everyone who lives in the State of Washington is in support of the sanctuary city/state status. I was kind to you; why did you feel it necessary to post a negative response?

Jack Lee (author) from Yorktown NY on July 03, 2019:

Mike, you may be right. I think he exemplify a new generation of Americans who were never taught our history and our Constitution...

They are called “snow flake” generation which gets offended at the drop of a hat. They don’t know oppression until they see where it actually exist today in Cuba, Africa, south America, Middle East, and China...

Jack Lee (author) from Yorktown NY on July 03, 2019:

Brad, you are a word of wisdom. Thanks for checking in.

Readmikenow on July 03, 2019:

Jack, I would say on the surface it appears as if Colin Kaepernick is offended and that is what is in the news cycle. I think the reality behind this is how he is getting so much attention. More attention means more public speaking opportunities and increasing awareness of his brand. People who hate him will hate him but the people who love him are now buying a huge amount of his gear to show their support of him. His book sales have increased dramatically. Just like when he took a knee, he is making money off of this attention. I believe this is a concocted news story designed to increase awareness of the Kaepernick brand. I bet if interviewed he may say he thinks Betsy Ross actually invented a bicycle company.

Brad on July 03, 2019:

Slavery of blacks is in our rear view mirror.

The fact that Colin is in the professional football and is known says that he is beating a dead horse.

Blacks are the majority of players in many professional sports, and those sports were while only until the 1950s. They should be grateful to all those people, white people that gave them that opportunity.

They should be angry at their African heritage where it was the Africans in Africa that sold their ancestors into slavery.

Most of the problems of being black today has to do a lot with the actions and attitudes of blacks, not the government or the white people.

Jack Lee (author) from Yorktown NY on July 03, 2019:

Linda, good point. Where does it stop? I think your State and Seattle is just too liberal and your city council may mean well but look what it has gotten you. The homelessness and trash on your streets can’t be good for anyone.

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on July 03, 2019:

I agree with your position. I'm sure you and I can agree (without a doubt) that slavery was wrong, it was horrible, but it was a part of our history and it was who we were. But we are many generations removed from that now. We can't change the past. If the only means of solving this is by erasing every reminder of 200 years ago, I guess my state (Washington) will have to be renamed.
