I am old, and growing older. It is a fact of life that the days ahead are far outnumbered by the days behind.
I think, perhaps, this might be my final Hub...
I am seriously considering halting my time writing here on Hubpages. It's been almost a decade, and for the most part I have enjoyed my experiment, my attempts at being a writer/author/commentator. But lately, I am having trouble coming up with any thoughts which could be considered positive, uplifting, inspiring. I cannot be creative, original or innovative in the least. Why?
The state of the country today. Pure and simple. Politics. Riots. Politics. COVID. Politics. The lack of respect. The media. People. Oh, and did I mention politics?
For the majority of my life I have avoided being political. I have also done a fine job at being as much of a non-racist man as I could be. I have always supported, believed, lived the Golden Rule. Always. My own wife calls me straight laced, a true Polly Purebred innocent, a person who doesn't drink or smoke, who doesn't do drugs, who gives others another chance far more than most deserve. A man who will bend over backwards to believe in the best in another person, even one who has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that they do not deserve another chance, that they are fundamentally untrustworthy.
But today, I find myself having trouble being the person I have been for sixty years., Basically, I am fed up with Mankind.
I know I titled this as a question about politicians...
And how, or even if, they see us. The little people. Underlings. Undesirables. Pawns. Sacrificial lambs. The Left will have us at one another's throats, divided more deeply than we were before and during the Civil War. Hatred, anger, blind unseeing racism cutting deeply into the fabric of America. Threatening to destroy what we worked for almost 250 years to create. Encouraging Blacks and their sightless, mindless Millennial and Generation X Whites to destroy our statues, any statues that celebrate the leaders of our country, people who have been raised up onto literal pedestals as heroes, flawed people who lived by the rules and morals of their time, and who pale in the harsh light of the world today. Torn down by people of today who desire to hold dead people accountable for actions which were perfectly legal and normal during their lifetime, who demand respect yet seem unable to do the work required to deserve it. People who break the law, flaunt it and scream "Racist!" at any who seek to hold them to any form of civilized law, laws created, passed and upheld by a society which no longer believes a criminal is a criminal, yet believes those who try to uphold the law are themselves in fact lawless. Who desire nothing more than a utopia where money rains down like manna from on high, to have freedom for all to do as they please, act as they please, be whomever or whatever they please with no boundaries for anyone, except those who seek to hold them accountable for their actions.
All led by a pandering, simpering imbecile of a Democratic politician who seeks nothing more than to keep them exactly where they are: under their thumb, stupid and sidetracked by this newfound freedom to behave as though they were a two year old child throwing a temper tantrum with no parent available or able to spank their little rear ends and stop the insanity.
Portland, I am looking directly at you. Almost two full months of pathetic behavior a decent parent wouldn't allow in their child for two minutes, and you believe you have the right to question the President's decision to bring in military forces to halt the riots and looting, the damage being done to a city in the name of what, the death of a criminal who was caught in the act of committing a crime? And you think going out and destroying other's property, disrespecting your own neighbors, threatening people you live near with physical harm because of a man you never met is acceptable? Are you serious?
And for you Republicans...
There was a time I believed Republicans had their heads screwed on right, who believed that to be conservative was to be proper. After all, I am a straight laced, hard working White man who believes in God, hard work, being heterosexual and that marriage and family is as close to Heaven as a man can get while being here on Earth.
But recently, Missouri's Governor blew me out of the water. Completely destroyed any thoughts I had of the Right being right. Gov. Parsons has decided that kids need to go back to school regardless of their health, their parent's health, their school teachers, bus drivers, custodians, lunch ladies, grandparents, anyone.
His words: Get over it.
Are you f$#%&*@ serious?! Are you telling children who go to school, contract a virus then take it home, spread it to their family, both young and old, ill and healthy that you can "Get over it"? I assume you meant that THEY will get over the illness, right? And in that, you might be correct. Maybe. But will the teachers at the school, the subs called in when they fall ill, retire, refuse to work for fear of this illness? Will the administrators, bus drivers, paras, Special Needs teachers, counselors, lunch staff, secretaries, get over it? Will the children's parents, siblings, grandparents get over it?
How stupid are you Parsons?
Toss in the BLM...
And you have another separate but no less involved portion of humanity in America today, one supposedly bringing to light the injustice of the Black people. I read one article where they detail the 250 years of slavery, followed by almost 90 years of segregation. What they do not say is what followed that: another 75 years of desegregation, affirmative action, opportunities granted, university standards lowered, and mandatory hiring practices which granted Blacks opportunities over Whites in businesses and jobs.
But that is not enough; not today. Even when the article, defending BLM riots, protests, and cries for defunding police across our nation, declares and defends these actions, they say, almost in passing,
“The Black issues exist very far from here,” he said. “It’s in the classrooms when we have Black students in eighth grade who are not at an eighth grade reading level. That’s what we should be marching for.”
So I ask, whose fault is that? Is it the children's for not applying themselves? Is it the parent(s) for not enforcing basic guidelines to do something to better yourself through education? I mean, isn't that at the crux of the Affirmative Action movement for better schools? Or is it the White Man's fault? For whatever reason. Or is it the family unit for having 70% of these children being forced to live in single parent households?
Ultimately, if one desires to better themselves in America you have that chance. Free public education is available to all legal citizens, and most illegal ones as well. Work, study, try, apply and you can do better than your parent. Continuing to raise children in the mindset that "It's not my fault, it's theirs" will continue to enable people to be victims, generation after generation.
I do not know how to remain positive...
In this environment. There is no good news anymore, none. Every news cast is filled with BLM, riots, violent protests, clashes between police and criminals (yes, if you are violent towards others you are a criminal in my eyes). Filled with politics so one sided as to be not even worth listening to, politicians so removed from the reality of the majority of Americans as to be criminal itself, and lies, half truths, and blind followers so deluded as to be worthy of nothing good.
I have stopped watching the news at all. I occasionally read something, perhaps check on something I heard being talked about. It just isn't worth it to me. When I do, I become so angry, upset, and outraged that I cannot stand myself. I look at the Left, then the Right, and feel the divide between the two is wider than at any time in our nation's history; wider even than the divide between England and the colonies. As each side drifts further and further away from the other those of us who try to remain upright between the extremes find ourselves falling into the abyss.
We may or may not be the majority, but in the end it won't matter. America is in dire straits and We the People just do not matter anymore. Politicians see us as something to be used, lied to, taken advantage of. We are no more than a roll of toilet paper, a pawn on a chess board, a person to stand in front of them as they stay back and send us to our doom.
Remember those movies that show the British troops in their red coats and white cross belts, forming an X in the middle of their chests, standing upright in the open fields, waiting for the officer to tell them to shoot their weapons? That's us folks. We are in the crosshairs of someone who will shoot before we get the word, even the chance to do so.
I wish you all well, and I may or may not see you again here. God bless.

Hang in there, Mike. Recognition of the problem situation is the first step to a resolution. Best wishes!!

Cheyenne and Dr Bill, thank you. With all that is going on right now in the world, and all I am dealing with in my new job, I am getting overwhelmed. I took a job that puts me in charge of a large condo association and what I am seeing in the people who have been in charge for years is depressing as hell. People who have placed themselves so far above their peers, who have taken such advantage both in power and in finances, who have set themselves up so that no one can separate them from the business they were charged with caring for. I might have to literally tear the entire business apart in order to try and save it, to go back to bedrock and start completely anew. It sickens me to no end the depths people will go to serve themselves at others expense. And when I add in the politics, this damn virus, the BLM crap, the media not playing fair in the least, I have to wonder if we are even going to make it out of this decade.
I appreciate your thoughts and well wishes, and hope I can get through this, but I just don't know. You take care my friends, and know I will be thinking of you and keeping us all in my prayers.

I agree with Sha, Mike. Hope this isn't your last post, but, take a break. I have. Look after yourself and your family. One day we will get back to being concerned for the common good as well as ourselves. In the meantime, be safe, be healthy, be positive, live with love, as billybuc likes to remind us. ;-)

Very well said, Mike. I can't say I don't disagree with you. America as it was meant to be, is no more. Will we survive? Who knows, but I will do what's right for me and my family. I'm the only one looking out for my well-being, so that I will do to the best of my ability.
I sincerely hope this isn't your last post. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
