Was Muammar Gaddafi a Good or Bad Person? Facts About Libya

Late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi

The Late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi ruled Libya for 42 years, and after the uprising of the Libyan people, he was killed as he was trying to escape Libya in a convoy when NATO bombed it and he was caught and then killed with bullet wounds to his head and body.

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was labelled as a 'tyrant', a 'terrorist' and a 'dictator', but was he really a bad leader of Libya? Even though there was no democracy in Libya, the facts about Libya and the way it was ruled in the list below, doesn't do any justice to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

The list below may give you some insight into the good side of the the ruling of Libya by Muammar Gaddafi. If it is/was all true, then in the aspect of providing for his people, he doesn't really seem like a bad ruler because if he did provide for his people, then he must have had a good side to him.

Map of Libya

The list above shows that, if he actually kept to the provision of the list, Muammar Gaddafi tried to provide for the people of Libya as much as he could. It was democracy that the Libyan people wanted, but had to fight to the death to get it.

'Democracy' is a weapon being used by the West gainst the Middle East to start protests and uprising by the people in those countries, because most of the Middle Eastern countries are still being ruled under the Islamic Sharia law.

To break the mould and for the West to infiltrate the Middle East, 'democracy' is an easy weapon to use, or you could also call it 'propaganda'. Although we are in the 21st century, Islam is a religion which is forever, but when people in the Middle East look at the way Western countries are ruled, the people of the Middle East want a democracy in their countries. Islam does not support a 'dictatorship regime', so the leaders of those countries should rule with democracy. There is no contradiction here, as the truth is that in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him), there was democracy and Islam was perfect, the law and ruling was perfect. It was run according to the Shari'a Law. Islam is and has been perfected by Allah, as it is written in the Quran, but it is human beings who make it difficult for themselves.

Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century.

Not many in the West know about the good things he did. That's why I got so mad that we helped depose him but not Assad. If anything he should of been left in power because there are far worse dictators out there. He did more for his country than most presidents ever do and yet we blasted him at every step. This is because he wasn't dependet on the west and kicked them out when he took power so I'm guessing western companies had a grudge and vowed to never let him win. Western domcracy will never work in the conservative middle East though, I think what needs to happen is scholars need to sit down and rework western democracy to fit Islamic needs. Our democracy is based in Christian values and therefore I feel that western companies try to impose their beliefs in the same way that Spanish missionaries did. That is why so many in the West fear the combining of Sharia law and democracy. In the West when these idea were created I'm sure many Christians would of called them blasphemous so Islamic scholars needs to just deal with the hate and make a system that combines the best of both worlds. Then we would see revolution

Muammar Gaddafi was a great man. He did the best for his people. He was a prey of the conspiracy of the west. The west always had their eyes on the oil rich countries. They wait for a chance to invade these countries and set up their puppet governments in theses countries. And when they find no excuses to start an inavasion, they instigate a rebellion, start supporting the rebels and ultimately attack the government and conquer a country. They are a selfish regime and innocent people die at their cost. This is shameful. The world is controlled by the west. In fact they are the true dictators of the world. I feel sad for the innocent people. They have no idea what is happening. Let God save the world.

The world over has fallen to the control of the Western power simply because of the factors mentioned above, subsequently are weakened.

Otherwise, Western countries would have been defeated years ago with their evil tactics.

An allowance for every citizen born. Free housing, medical care and education, for everyone. The little unemployed there was were given good welfare payments. It was the richest and most successful country in Africa in citizens wealth and excellent hospitals and education. When the allies began to arm paid insurgents to destabilize the country over a million people marched in Tripoli and hundreds of thousands in other cities. The western media said it was a massive demonstration, this from a frightened cowed people, where was Ghadaffi's feared police and army to shoot them all? I don't think so. The western media is guilty of terrible distortion. The west has turned the middle east into a night mare, just to sell a couple of trillion dollars of weapons and seize oil and resources, shame on us for ruining these countries.

I m from India, we don't get any free support from our governments. They tax us and then do scams of billions. If USA along with NATO are so much concerned about the human rights of the people of Libiya along with people of other middle eastern countries and the rest of the world then they should take serious steps to make people free remove the hunger by equalizing the currency system (making all currencies equal 1 USD = 1 INR = 1 GBP = 1 (any other currency) and removing the debts in terms of loans given out to poor countries by IMF and World Bank. That would be a real help to the poor people of the world because more people die of hunger than terrorism.I do not understand the concept of democracy particularly in India it is just like changing fathers every 5 years. If Gaddafi was a bad leader he would have not lead Libiya for 42 years. The problem with the people today is that they get their opinion from the main stream media. If USA says that Gaddafi was a mass murderer than what is USA itself? USA and NATO has killed millions of people in Afghanistan and Iraq. Due to the western banking system controlled by the Rothschilds, Rockerfellers and Morgans and World Bank, IMF and Federal Reserve driven policies billions of poor people are starving all over the world. If USA along with NATO launches an anti starvation or anti poverty operation in poor counties instead of killing people in middle east than that would have helped humanity. USA is serving a Zionist agenda and is acting as a puppet in hands of just few handful of Jew Zionist who just want a Jewish state in middle east just by killing innocent Muslims and capturing their land. Their main weapons for this war is propaganda warfare, main stream media manipulation especially against Muslims. They want a total domination of human race through New World Order, where they will be the masters and rest of us will be the slave of their system.

Coming to Libya, It is a wealthy & One of Richest country in Africa. The Main cause of Gadaffi Death as follows;

1. UKA ( United Kingdom of Africa ) with 50 States & Africa it self named as a country with Only One Currency.

2. If UKA sells any of its resource ( Export ) inflow Currency must be in a form of GOLD. ( NO Currency Only Gold )

As we know countries Wealthyness is depended on its More Exports less Imports & Reserves of Gold in the country.

3. As Gadaffi Funded few Nations in European Region as they are opponents to USA.

4. Gadaffi Tried to excavate UKA idea in International Con. were the leading Powers as ( USA ), CHINA, UAE & RUSSIA doesnt want to sound the same Idea in such a con. for next time as there is a chance to thinks the powers in the world against the same ideafor further.

Challenging Question to ALL:

I agree Gadaffi is not a good leader then y dont u came to roads and collapse his ruling in the country since 45 years ????????????

If he is a bad leader y he raised his idea as UKA in the Universal Important CON. ( U people know the same reason brought him to death ).

Libya was one of the last nations in the world with a state-run banking system and control over its own money supply.

I'm not Libyan so I can't confirm whether Gaddafi was a bad guy or say whether he has done terrible things but he wasn't the worst dictator in the world, definitely not the worst dictator in the Africa and not even the worst dictator in the Sahara if you count Omar al-Bashir. Gaddafi wasn't a good guy but at least Libya was an independent country that could sustain itself.

Now is a different story. If Libyans thought they had it bad before, they are in for a rude awakening.

Libya will own nothing (Gold, Oil, Natural resources, etc) because 'the powers that be' will take everything then tax you into oblivion, and it will be easy because your politicians will sell you out if they haven't already.

There was no democracy or whatever far back in the early days but still there are no doubts that some empires still became great.. Wondered did the british empire in the old days became great practising democracy.. America's government controls what we see on tv. We are lied to about the things that go on in the Middle East.

For once, I would like to know why does America go into other countries, and demand what their government should be? America's homeless rate & education system is abhorrent! However, America's government can keep finding money for wars & to tax us these high ass gas prices!

It seems to me, America just wanted Gaddafi's oil.

I wish I could have met Gaddafi & Bin Laden, so that I could know the truth about the American government. My government seems to be killing other leaders that have some truth to be told, that will make history!

Gaddafi deserved what he did. He had to die this way because he tortured his congregations. Even, it came to the news that he used to rape his female bodyguards. Hello, i'd like to leave a comment to that article above.

Okay so wherever u got these information from, i am sorry but i have to say, you gotta also be sure that they did happen or not.

because none of these things that '' gaddafi '' said, was actually done. and actually instead of doing these things, he promised us and promised the world he'd do in libya, he killed, rapped, stole and murdered Libyans for no actual reason. he took away homes instead of giving them, his son '' Seif Al Aslam'' Rapped newly married girls just they were attractive to him. he stole money and never gave the Libyan citizen his right, instead of helping and giving out money. and yes maybe education is for free, but can give a real number of well educated Libyans IN LIBYA? not a lot.

he panned English for a while, and they he started letting us learn English is grade 7 or 8.

we had to study his Green Book, which is the country's stupid Constitution.

if i could write up here all the bad things he did for the Libyans for 24 years, i swear i'd take forever.

so i just want people to know how angry we are, and how bad he was and that he does not deserve anyone's pity.

and i guarantee that Allah, allowed and let us kill him that way, only because he deserved that.

Thank you :)

I agree welfare in Libya, but sometimes, people expect more and that is freedom of speech, liberal governance administration. In USSR and China they tried to keep people in communes or self reliant human colonies but later it failed. So people can not be kept in Barracks, they always want free breathing and that is freedom.

The government sponsored killings or atrocities make a way for uprising or plots against government or ruler.even though he/she claims Messiah of the community

Greg you need to do your homework before you post such lies! Have you read the Quran fully and understood it?

Have you read and understood the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)?

I do not know where you got your info from, but you are wrong on all counts.

Islam is perfect? Democratic? Read it again.

a) 'Prophet' Muhammad is the only 'Prophet' who managed three wars in his life. Killed everybody to obtain their golds. Not to bring peace.

b) Islam has got nothing to do with human rights. The Quaran/Sharia law accepts FOUR woman's witness over ONE man. Is this equality? Democracy? Perhaps, Allah is a man, too, if exists.

c) Dignity? 'Prophet' Muhammad is the only guy who married to a girl 6 years old when he was 43. How shameful is that?

And do not twist the words. Libyan situation and Islam are different things. Do your homework before post.

On this topic

I'm Libby and I live in Libya Now I am 45 years old did not leave Libya

Bread really cheap in Libya

14. 25% of Libyans have a university degree.

Yes it is true

dumindu89 from Sri Lanka on November 24, 2011:

Actually me too amazed with this case. Why some Libyan people celebrated his death.I saw it in TV.

I do not accept the way of western people. They didn't do anything against Israel about their huge unacceptable attacks to Palestine. I guess the reason is greediness for fuel resources.

Ali on November 12, 2011:

Thank you for understanding G Miah......and yes it's true...Gadhafi was killed becuz he was trying to make the gold dener....whatever they say..that is the truth.

BUT..on the other hand......I think we would rather live under a colonised country rather then under that have no idea what it was like.....we were unable to do anything......sometimes people would ask about a friend who would just go missing without anyone knowing what happened to him.....every time the people travel to Egypt or Tunisia we would have to bribe the soldiers who are patroling the borders as well as on the main road....The Mayor of my city (Benghazi) hung stydents on University of the students didn't die so she caught on his legs an PULLED him down stranglling him....these are just stories I know about.

To me they can occupy, take, feed off our petrol as long as they let the people live proper lives.

Gous Ahmed (author) from Muslim Nation on November 10, 2011:

The thing with this post is that the list makes Gaddafi look good and the Libyan people bad. As the Person who lives in Libya highlighted above, Muammar Gaddafi never stuck to his words, and it is all a lie, so that is another reason why the people of Libya were angry. Nobody blames them, because every human has a right to live peacefully, and not how someone else wants them to live.

No politician keeps their word, and when these leaders/politicians start milking the money that comes to them, they only think about themselves and not the people they are there to serve.

It is similar to the government in Bangladesh, they just milk the country out it's money and the people die of starvation.

Craig T from UK on November 09, 2011:

Can I just point out that NATO didn't kill him, so the conspiracy theories can end on that one, he was killed by the Libyans who hated him.

amuqeet on November 09, 2011:

agree i think that is the reason why he was killed the way he was killed

Elderyoungman from Worldwide on November 08, 2011:

One thing and one thing only resulted in NATO's invasion of Libya. Money. All of the points about Ghadaffi are true, but the reason he got executed is the same reason that Saddam Husein got executed. Both men were "OUR" mad dogs...we supported them both. Both men made significant moves towards ending the petro-dollar, meaning that in order to buy oil from either country, the transactions would have to be done in a currency that we don't print. Saddam switched his to Euros, but Ghadaffi was working on the gold denar. Ghadaffi was also in the process of creating a United States of Africa (google all of this stuff!), which would have aligned most of north and central africa into one power block, with the gold denar as its currency. This is why he was executed.

Ali on November 08, 2011:

Nothing to be confused about amuqeet, you can ask me anything and I will reply with an answer.

I live in Libya.....I was here whene he attacked my city Benghazi...feel free to ask.

But Libyans were living in a very bad country ruled by a dictator that did not care for his people even though we are the richest country in Africa.

amuqeet on November 08, 2011:

well actually i have heard the things told by hub author that to from Libyans them self so now u are making me confused any how what's done is done cause indeed Libya belong to Libyan people and now the only thing i want is to make sure that this thing don't get repeated again i.e democracy prevails

Ali on November 04, 2011:

I am Libyan and have lived in Libya all my life.....all the above statements are false, except for the electricity is for free.

40% of Libyans are unemployed....if a Libyan works for the government,he/she gets a salary that barly keeps them going for the month. We have NO infrastructue, education is BAD,healthcare much wrose.

PLAESE people, stop spreading false information about something you do not know about OK.

Freya Cesare from Borneo Island, Indonesia on November 02, 2011:

Wow! Now you making me confused, Brother! You really is!

What is really happening with the world?

Craig T from UK on November 02, 2011:

Overall it's a very confusing topic and I suppose it depends what sort of person you are as to what you think was right.

He apparently did all those nice things that you listed above, and lets face it, with him in charge in Libya organisations such as Al-Qaeda weren't really getting a look in...but was that enough to get him off the hook for all of his cruelty, oppression and even attacks against the West in the past?

At the end of the day the Libyan people wanted him out and it's their country and their right to choose how they live...but with reports of Sharia Law being implemented throughout Libya now and even Al-Qaeda flags being waved in certain places, it does look that for Western interests as a whole, him keeping his iron fisted rule would have been the safer option..

Annie on October 29, 2011:

I don't understand why Libyans would want to be free of Gaddafi if the long list of the worthy things he did for Libya are true? He appears to have killed a lot of citizens but why would the majority want rid of him if he did so much for them? Would really like to hear a more balanced view of this man. He really should not have been killed on his day of capture - many questions could have been asked and hopefully answered by him.

amuqeet on October 29, 2011:

the Libya is in the worst turmoil then ever you know why because know they are leader less wanna know why its simple they don't have the mental capacity to lead since opportunity never arised in this crucial stage it a ka boom bomb it may go for the best or for the worst any way all the best for the libyan but i do know this one thing Pakistan has suffered a terrible loss

californialawyer from Georgia on October 28, 2011:

The post really surprised me. Whenever I watch television or read news, in most cases I read negative things about him. I think we should always look at the both sides of an issue. We do not know much about him or about libya because most of the time we are just concerned of ourselves. Thus, we do not have the right to judge. Whatever happened, I am sure the reasons are behind that of what we have heard and seen.

Gous Ahmed (author) from Muslim Nation on October 28, 2011:

Whatever he did, he was probably guilty of, we can't be sure. And if he did what is listed above, then good, but if he didn't, which may be most likely, then it won't be a surprise.

When a leader kills his people, that is the worst crime. Being a leader of people in a country means you have to look after their health and wellbeing. It's evident he didn't, but then again, looking from the West, we don't know exactly what the truth was. There may be some political issues and that is why the West went to liberate Libya, and NOT Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon etc where the same thing was and is still going on!!!

Cathy Nerujen from Edge of Reality and Known Space on October 28, 2011:

These are curious and interesting things that I never knew before. But what about the flight that blew up over Lockerbie in Scotland, and the American and Scottish people who died because of it? Did they deserve this?

What about the sale of weapons to the IRA? Or the man who was attacking his own people. There are other things there too, I am sure.

I hate war and violence. No country leader should attack his own people. I know there is lots I probably don't know about Libya. And the future is uncertain for the people of Libya who are living there now...I would like them to have the right to choose their own leaders and their own future. Is that wrong? So many people can already have that right. I would like it for people in Libya to not have to live in fear or ever be afraid. Fear can be the worse weapon of all some times...
