5 Ways Trump Poses a Threat to National Security

Whether it be his handling of classified information, his undermining of the United States intelligence services, his erosion of alliances, or his yielding to dictators like Kim Jung Un or Vladimir Putin, it's becoming obvious that Donald Trump has become a threat. Below, we'll look at five specific ways Trump has become a serious threat to national security.

1. Trump Lies

It's become painfully clear that Donald Trump cannot be trusted. There are numerous sources that exist that have fact-checked Trump on many statements he has said. Many sites have counted well over 3,000 lies or misleading statements in his first 466 days as president.

He's admitted that he made up things when speaking with leaders of other nations and that if his policies go bad, he'll just make up some excuse. About North Korea, he said: "I may be wrong, I mean I may stand before you in six months and say, 'Hey I was wrong,'" said Trump, before adding, "I don't know that I'll ever admit that, but I'll find some kind of an excuse."

On top of that, the reports that Trump gave Russia sensitive intelligence on a Mossad operation in the Oval Office call into question his ability to handle classified information. Add to the fact the reports that he finds security concerns too cumbersome to stop using his personal cellphone and you wonder about the national security of the United States.

Having such a dishonest and distrusted individual in the Oval Office is not only disheartening but dangerous.

2. Election Meddling by the Trump Administration

Another important point that comes to mind is about election meddling. Every intelligence service in the United States has come to the same conclusion: Russia, without a shadow of a doubt, interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

Why then, on June 28, 2018, did Trump issue the following statement on Twitter to his followers:

"Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election! Where is the DNC Server, and why didn't Shady James Comey and the now disgraced FBI agents take and closely examine it? Why isn't Hillary/Russia being looked at? So many questions, so much corruption!"

When an American president sides with such a corrupt figure as Putin over his own intelligence services, that's borderline treason and certainly opens himself up to questions of why. It makes many believe he was complicit in the assistance Russia gave his campaign.

The second point is that if he is sending out that message that there was no interference, how secure will the upcoming elections be? That's a real concern for an American public that believes he colluded with a foreign government to become elected to the highest office in the world.

This is where he becomes a national security threat. Is he undermining future security improvements to ensure his political party remains in control of government? Is he encouraging Russia to meddle again to instill representatives that are sympathetic to policies that benefit that country?

Many wonder....

3. Irresponsible and Dangerous Rhetoric

Trump has been hammering away at the media since his run began, calling them fake news, the enemy, and even posting video of himself attacking Vince McMahon with a CNN logo superimposed over his face.

On June 26, 2018, conservative political commentator Milo Yiannopolous texted a pair of journalists and said that he "can't wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning down journalists," and they made that comment public.

On June 28, 2018, someone gunned down five journalists. Cause and effect? You decide.

4. Deal-Making With North Korea

Trump met with Kim Jung Un and declared that he solved the problem with denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. There are reports coming out this week that North Korea is making rapid improvements to a nuclear facility.

What it sounds like is North Korea is doing what they've always done, pledging to halt their nuclear program and then ignoring what they say.

Where Trump becomes a national security issue is that he didn't get anything that backs up that pledge. No inspections, no sanctions for breaking the agreement, no specifics. North Korea got a halt to military exercises by South Korea and the United States in the area.

So Trump gave away something on the word of a dictator that seems to be dubious, at best.

5. Broken Alliances

Trump continues to erode the alliances the United States has with many nations. He's alienated many countries in a series of different ways.

The first was his stance on climate change. He pulled the United States out of the Paris Accord, saying it was unfair to the United States. Every other United States ally remains committed to that accord.

Trump has imposed tariffs on allies and gone after Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada at the G7 Summit. Right after, he met with Kim Jung Un and embraced him as a strong leader, even saying he wished the American people had the same level of respect for him that the North Koreans have for their leader.

Trump's stance on immigration and separating children from their parents has been declared a human rights violation by the United Nations. The Trump response? To withdraw the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council.

So true. We need to tighten up laws and enforcement pertaining to election and general public opinion meddling ASAP. This includes US corporations with their astroturfing campaigns. But, Trump isn't interested in any of that because it makes it look like maybe he had a little help from the Russians. Well, he did.

If they get their Justice, its past over.

Maxine Waters is one who's had Trump's number from day one. Just like Hillary.

"There is a common thread which runs through all these RW zealots: Hate of Clintons. The target in Citizens United (full acronym was C.U.N.T.) was Hillary. Mix in a black man rising to power, and you have a strong, strong motive to cheat. It lies in wait in their DNA."

Mix in a black woman who fights Trump....can you feel the seething anger?

The Confederacy rises.

This has gone past party lines. Its support democracy or support tyranny. Anyone who continues to support Trump is blind and has no idea what our nation stands for. When your government no longer answers to the people its no longer democracy. If tyrany follows then you will know what having no freedom will become. Most of all the wrath of the majority and those who believe in what America has stood for will not be silent for long. When the people realize they have no due process and no rights to be heard they will fight back and it will be ugly.

You mean the Maxine Waters that encourages people to follow and harass people? Doubtful anyone would apologize to her. Better question, why has she not apologized to the American public for being such a divisive political hack? Please tell me you are not trying to make a series point with ANYTHING related to Auntie Maxine.

Maxine Waters got such a serious death threat after Trump responded to her, she had to cancel a speaking engagement.

Klannity-Hannity blamed the shooting on Maxine Waters.....

There won't be an apology from me. When he calls the press the enemy (of the United Sates), some nut jobs are going to see that as a green light.

Today a newspaper was shot up. Trump calls journalists the enemy of the people. Alt right hero milo yiannopolis said it’s time to start gunning journos down.....2 days ago. A right wing chick on twitter said the civil war has begun.

If you live in America, you know the confederacy never died. You know they want a war, that’s why they stockpile guns. 3% own most of the guns here.

There are 2 people on hubpages who openly call for the tree of Liberty to be watered with the blood of liberals.

This man Trump needs to be removed, and his white supremacy regime dismantled.

We are under domestic terrorism. Just ask any African American.

Time to get real. Time to stop coddling terrorists. And I’m not talking ms 13, I’m talking international organized crime, of which Trump is a part.

1. Who is checking the fact checkers? I believe them as much as I believe pollsters. And if you get any of that info from the news, particularly CNN, well, we know them to be blatantly biased and not factual. Does he lie? Yep, sometimes. I don't know anyone in politics that has not or does not. Reasonable Americans don't care what he says, it is what he gets done.

2. The Mossad operation exposed ISIS plans to use laptop bombs. A better question is why didn't he tell EVERYONE this? Sharing information that my thwart a terrorist attack GAINS trust, no erode it.

3. LOL...I doubt any compartmentalized secret information is on his cell phone, you know, like on an unsecured and blatantly illegal server was chocked full of. Unless you were RAGING about that, then your current outrage is fake and ideologically drive.

It was an interesting first paragraph though, it was just not convincing.

All wrong, Tom? Go ahead and disprove the trust one for starters. And you're not allowed to use the words Obama or Hillary since I didn't either in the article unless I was quoting Trump directly.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 28, 2018:

Well, and he's getting us into a huge conflict with Iran, to please his side piece, Bibi.

His main man Vlad is already helping him steal the midterms. And Mnuchin met w some Russian official to discuss sanctions relief.

Not only is he a threat, hes a MENACE.

He needs to be impeached like yesterday.

Which he would have been had a D been in front of his name.

This republican Congress is derelict in its duties of putting a check on this madman.

They are as much a threat to national security as he is.

Throw the bums out!
