The Uighurs of Xinjiang

The Uighurs, or Uyghurs, are a tribe of Muslim Turks. Twelve million of them live in the northwestern corner of China, in that country’s largest province, Xinjiang. The chief occupation of the Uighurs has long been farming. Wheat and cotton are the primary crops. Most of the livestock are sheep. Few Uighurs speak Chinese.

Xinjiang is rich in oil and minerals. It is the center of Asia, far from any ocean. The Silk Road runs right through it. A quarter of China's borders are in Xinjiang, which represents 18% of China's territory. Ninety percent of the land is uninhabitable desert. It borders Tibet, Russia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and several other 'stans.' The Mongol Empire ruled Xinjiang for 600 years before it came under Chinese rule in the 18th century.

Concentration Camps, Slavery, Organ Harvesting

China likes to call itself the “worker’s paradise.” I doubt the Uighurs would agree. Almost two million of them have been rounded up; heads shaved, blindfolded, shackled, put in boxcars, and shipped to hundreds of concentration camps. Once there, they provide slave labor for factories that manufacture products for 82 global brands such as Nike, Adidas, Gap, Calvin Klein, Apple, Sony, Samsung, BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Huawei.

Communist China is officially and militantly Atheist. It has a long history of viciously persecuting people who believe in God. Like all socialist countries, China sees religion as a competitor to the Almighty State for people's loyalties that the government must eliminate. Some people are arrested for praying. Visiting foreign websites or maintaining relationships with family members who have emigrated will do it too.

Life in China’s concentration camps is brutal. The Uighurs are imprisoned for political reasons, so the camps' official purpose is to "reeducate" them. Indoctrination into godless communism includes the forced singing of propaganda songs that express worship of dictator Xi Jinping. Any who resist will not be fed. They will also face torture, gang rape, medical experiments, forced abortion, and sterilization. China does not want any more Uighurs to be born, or even half-Uighurs.

The BBC published a shocking and eye-opening report on February 2, 2021, on the sexual torture and gang rape in the concentration camps. Several victims came forward and gave eyewitness accounts to the BBC despite putting themselves great danger.

We must be mindful that there is no freedom of the press in China or any other freedoms many Americans take for granted that Democrats want to destroy, such as freedom of speech, the free exercise of religion, freedom of association, the right to bear arms. Information is tightly controlled. Those who escape the country know that telling the truth about China will result in their beloved family members left behind being tortured and perhaps killed as a deterrent.

One woman who escaped and now lives in America, Tursunay Ziawudun, not only reports being "gang-raped on three occasions," but also of widespread sexual torture. “The woman took me to the room next to where the other girl had been taken. They had an electric stick, I didn’t know what it was, and it was pushed inside my genital tract, torturing me with an electric shock. They don't only rape but also bite all over your body; you don't know if they are human or animal. Any woman under 40 was raped. Everyone in the camp experienced this. I was also beaten—I was kicked and stamped on—once so much on my private parts that I was bleeding, and I since had to have my ovaries removed.”

The BBC quotes a woman named Qelbinur Sedik, "Yes, the rape has become a culture. It is gang rape, and the Chinese police not only rape them but also electrocute them. They are subject to horrific torture.”

A Uighur woman named Gulbakhar Jalilova testified, “Young girls are taken out and raped all night long. If you keep resisting, they will inject you with something and kill you.”

Another eyewitness, Sayragul Sauytbay, told the BBC that the police gang rape women in the camps in front of hundreds of other prisoners. In one case, "While they were raping her, they checked to see how we were reacting. People who turned their head or closed their eyes, and those who looked angry or shocked, were taken away, and we never saw them again."

China is also guilty of organ harvesting. The communist regime kills people it doesn't like to harvest their organs and sell them in a lucrative international transplant market. Some organs are harvested while the prisoners are still alive. The United States Trafficking Persons Report deems China among the worst countries in the world for human trafficking.

Genocide

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared in January 2021: “After careful examination of the available facts, I have determined that the People’s Republic of China, under the direction and control of the Chinese Communist Party, has committed genocide against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang. I believe this genocide is ongoing and that we are witnessing the systematic attempt to destroy Uyghurs by the Chinese party-state."

One month later, Antony Blinken, the new Democrat Secretary of State, testified that he also believes China’s crimes against humanity involving the Uyghurs qualifies as genocide.

International human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky, whose family members were imprisoned and executed during the Holocaust, sees similarities, calling the deeds of the Communist Party “genocide” due to “forced sterilizations, abortions and intrusive birth prevention” that have resulted in “the population growth rates in the two largest Uyghur prefectures to fall by 84% between 2015 and 2018.” Ostrovsky asserts that it is “impossible not to draw such parallels in the face of overwhelming evidence of state-sponsored ethnic cleansing and genocide by China's Communist regime.”

Joe Biden excuses China’s actions as merely having "different cultural norms." Of course, his family and many other Democrats enrich themselves from their relationships with the Chinese Communists.

The West and the United Nations Turn a Blind Eye

The world turns a blind eye to these atrocities. Not only that, the United Nations helps China enforce its code of silence. The UN denies this, but recently leaked emails show that its human rights officials provide the Chinese Communist Party with the names of dissidents who might testify as to the atrocities. The wording of the emails shows that this is considered standard practice by both sides.

United Nations whistleblower Emily Reilly first exposed this scandal. She proclaimed that the UN’s actions are “criminal” and “complicit in genocide.” Dissidents exposed by the UN are imprisoned, sometimes killed, and their families may also be kidnapped and tortured in retaliation.

What is amazing is how the Woke Democrats of America rage daily about slavery in America—that was abolished nearly 160 years ago—but totally ignore or even excuse the largest slave drivers in the world right now. The Wokesters rail about phantom discrimination in their own country while a regime they admire and want to replicate, much like the Third Reich sets up concentration camps, enslaves human beings, commits genocide based on race and religion, and plans to rule the world with a master race of Han Chinese instead of Aryans.

President Trump signed The Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act in 2020 to try and stop the genocide. Apple and other global corporations had fiercely fought against the bill. It would seem that any “woke” company would come out against slavery. Nike’s slogan is “believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything.” But it makes no sacrifice of even one cent of its profits from slave labor by moving its shoe-making plants to a free country. It maintains what one thinker calls “a covenant with death.”

Disney appeases the Chinese communists by giving them approval over its scripts and film editing. It even made a movie not far from the slave camps in Xinjiang. Thus, our corporations profit from slavery, torture, human misery, and genocide, with many hallmarks of the Holocaust. All while they openly despise America, the land of the free that has made them fat and sassy.

Corporations, the media, our universities, Hollywood, and Democrats love China far more than America. Because they admire China’s totalitarianism and communism. They loathe God, as do the Chinese socialists. They long to make America like China with its political correctness, group think, thought police, and the ultimate cancel culture. And they see China’s one billion people as the customers who will grow their profits in the 21st century. That is the side their bread is buttered on.

Ken Burgess ~ Very interesting observations. I agree with your analogy of "America is playing Britain's role of fading Empire." Let us hope that we will be able to keep our country together as Britain did.

Ken Burgess from Florida on March 31, 2021:

James, this is indeed true, and far more than most Americans realize.

And this is not new, but something the CCP has been working on for decades now.

If one looks at China's development, one could easily parallel it to America's development. How it is committing atrocities today that America committed during its expansion, while also creating strong alliances with those nations aligned with its interests.

One could say that while today China is playing the American role of growing global power, America is playing Britain's role of fading Empire... China will come to dominate at the expense of America, its just a matter of how many more years it will take.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 31, 2021:

Ken Burgess ~ Thank you for that link. as you say, "military, that is not how China will win, they will win through financial, economic and societal/scholastic domination/subversion. ... they are already entwined in all things American, from the biggest corporations to the most prominent politicians to the most renown Universities."

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 31, 2021:

Vivian Coblentz ~ Thank you that information. I'll see if I can wiggle my way on somehow.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 31, 2021:

MG Singh emge ~ I enjoyed and learned from your comments to Ken. It is a distinct pleasure to hear from someone on your side of the world about this subject. I especially appreciate the enlightenment from you about this: "50% of the Chinese population still lives in poverty, and secondly, the one-child norm has had a very deleterious effect especially in the military. ... Another reason is that almost 50% of the Chinese land area especially Tibet and Sinkiang are populated by a hostile population."

Ken Burgess from Florida on March 30, 2021:

Thanks James,

@ MG Singh emge

I believe your observations have merit, but they do not represent where the government plans on taking China. You are thinking in terms of military, that is not how China will win, they will win through financial, economic and societal/scholastic domination/subversion.

This clip starting at 15:40 explains the CCP's plans in detail, they will be successful, they are already entwined in all things American, from the biggest corporations to the most prominent politicians to the most renown Universities:

Ken Burgess ~ Thank you very much for reading my article. Your comments bear repeating: "China will soon take the reigns of global leadership from America. The world will come to reflect China's values and ideals, in the way much of the world took on America's in the latter half of the 20th century. This global shift will now fast-track now that Trump has been removed and Biden's willingness to smooth China's ascension is in place."

Vivian Coblentz ~ I appreciate you reading my article. I can certainly appreciate your visceral reaction to it. Like you, I think "What the Chinese do is so base, vile, & bestial, that it is beyond human....these people are animals filled with demons. The worst part, our socialist "leaders" are in bed with these people and would do the same thing to us too, if they could get away with it."

I am grateful to you that you have "shared this article on all my social media platforms." Thank you!

James, I saw your response to AB about not being able to comment on articles. I had the same issue. It seems that if your article is in one of HP's niche sites, there is no comment box. You have to see the new hubs showing up in your feed and comment from there.

MG Singh emge from Singapore on March 28, 2021:

Ken, I don't think it's going to happen and in my view, it's never going to happen. There are so many reasons for it and some of these are based on my personal experiences when visiting China. In brief, first, 50% of the Chinese population still lives in poverty, and secondly, the one-child norm has had a very deleterious effect especially in the military. Do you know that 40 to 50% of the Chinese army is conscripted? They are the only sons of their family and they are mighty scared that in case they die and that includes the parents the entire family lineage will be finished. That is the reason that in the recent face-off with India in eastern Ladakh when the Indian generals were itching for a fight with China, the Chinese withdrew because of morale problems.I have spent a fair amount in the military to judge the Chinese efficacy. Another reason is that almost 50% of the Chinese land area especially Tibet and Sinkiang are populated by a hostile population. The Chinese are trying a lot of policies including executions, concentration camps, and what not but they haven't succeeded and I don't think they will succeed. One must see everything is in perspective and you must remember the mountain looks blue from afar. Within the next decade, I expect to see an implosion in China and I'm pretty sure about it. I've been sensing it in my visits. to China

Ken Burgess from Florida on March 27, 2021:

China will soon take the reigns of global leadership from America.

The world will come to reflect China's values and ideals, in the way much of the world took on America's in the latter half of the 20th century.

This global shift will now fast-track now that Trump has been removed and Biden's willingness to smooth China's ascension is in place.

Biden and his administration will talk tough about China, but that's all it will be, talk, nothing more than that.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 27, 2021:

A B Williams ~ I appreciate this visitation from you. Thanks for reading my piece and leaving me your thoughtful insights. You are right on the money with your comments. If I may quote you in part: "We are much too busy here...teaching our children how to hate their country and how to hate the skin they were born in and how to hate those that don't look like them. There isn't any time for concerning ourselves with the plight of the Uighurs, we are much too busy working to destroy people in our own Country."

By the way, I will look for your article in a few minutes, about the Uighurs. I haven't been reading many articles lately on HubPages because they cut me off from commenting. In fact, I don't know how you and others comment on my article, although I am glad and grateful that you have. When I go to Hubs, I get no comment box to use.

Vivian Coblentz on March 27, 2021:

OMG! This is an eye-opening, yet horrifying, explanation of what is happening with this people group. Reading this gave me such a sick pit in my stomach. What the Chinese do is so base, vile, & bestial, that it is beyond human....these people are animals filled with demons. The worst part, our socialist "leaders" are in bed with these people and would do the same thing to us too, if they could get away with it. I've shared this article on all my social media platforms--it's a very important message that people need to read to help them wake up!

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 26, 2021:

MG Singh emge ~ You are most welcome. Thank you for checking out my article. It is always good to hear from my friend in Singapore. I appreciate you adding this very important point: "Muslim countries ... do not lift a finger in support of their brothers, who are being butchered, put in concentration camps, and their women treated indecently." I wonder why that is? Perhaps afraid of China's might. Or hoping for Chinese financial largess.

A B Williams from Central Florida on March 26, 2021:

Hi James, I too have touched on this subject, but not nearly as in depth. It is horrific and yet here we are in the States, practically ignoring it. Our "wokeness" on things like this...and everything else for that matter, doesn't allow for it! We are much too busy here...teaching our children how to hate their country and how to hate the skin they were born in and how to hate those that don't look like them. There isn't any time for concerning ourselves with the plight of the Uighurs, we are much too busy working to destroy people in our own Country.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 24, 2021:

Pamela Oglesby ~ Thank you very much for coming over to read my work. I appreciate your kind compliments. And I agree with you that "the communist party in China is absolutely horrid."

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on March 24, 2021:

Cristina Vanthul ~ Thank you for taking the time to read my article. I appreciate your thoughtful comments and you are welcome. I could not agree more that what is happening to the Uighurs is, as you say, "heart-breaking and infuriating."

MG Singh emge from Singapore on March 23, 2021:

Thanks for this article. NATO's role secondary but they are our allies of China like Pakistan and which are Muslim countries and which do not lift a finger in support of their brothers, who are being butchered, put in concentration camps, and their women treated indecently. There is not a single Muslim country that has come out in support of the Muslim genocide in Sinkiang.

Sharlee on March 23, 2021:

One would Think NATO would do what they were created for, and stop this genocide. The organization is worthless.

KC McGee from Where I belong on March 23, 2021:

In a year or two America will be just like China. And we'll have criminal Marxist biden and that Marxist race baiting harris to thank for it.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on March 22, 2021:

These atrocities in China are just horrible. You would not think they could get away with this now, but the communist party in China is absolutely horrid. I don't see anything changing in the near future. This is a very good article, James.

Cristina Vanthul from Florida on March 22, 2021:

This is heart-breaking and infuriating. One would think, in this day and age, that this type of behavior by any country, corporation, or individual wouldn't happen, and when it does that they would be called out, humiliated, and boycotted. Thank you for bringing more attention to these people and their plight.
