Influential Personality

Retired General Colin Powell is one of the most influential people in the United States, even before Barack Obama or Kamala Harris. The only difference is that the rise of Obama or Harris was the result of the liberal and all-encompassing policies of the Democratic Party. In contrast, Colin Powell's approach to the Republican Party, which is relatively conservative and has become extremely glorious in the interim, is self-evident.

Ronald Reagan's administration is the first non-US national security adviser, George W. Bush's administration is the first non-US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the younger George W. Bush's administration is the first foreign secretary. Some in the U.S. have begun to speculate that Powell may be the first non-US president to do so. Due to a number of developments in the meantime, Powell did not have the opportunity to go that route.

Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. So much so, that in 2008 he announced his support for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Barack Obama, on public platforms. It became clear later that Obama benefited greatly from that support. Powell's illustrious career was permanently tarnished when it became clear that George W. Bush's reluctance to invade Iraq and his support at the United Nations were unfounded. But it would be unfair for him to mention only that much when tracing Powell's career.

During the Vietnam War, he concluded that relations between US troops and Vietnamese civilians were cordial.

His Educational Life

Born in 1937 in Harlem, New York, to Jamaican immigrants, Colin Luther Powell was not very smart at school. Yet being more ambitious than the other boys in his neighborhood, Colin Powell attended college. While pursuing a degree in geology, he had the opportunity to train in the reserve force of military officers. His frank confession that he went there with the same motto of shining in military uniform, as he could not shine in anything else.

After graduating, Colin Powell enlisted in the army and went to Vietnam twice. There his leadership qualities gained wider scope, he was given many important military responsibilities under the administrations of Richard Nixon, James Carter. During the Vietnam War, he concluded that relations between US troops and Vietnamese civilians were cordial. He was presented evidence that there was no fact in it and that in fact the Vietnamese people had at times been subjected to severe atrocities by these soldiers.

In the conflict between diplomacy and military knowledge, Powell has always been known to lean towards his military superiors. Soon after becoming president in 1989, he was promoted to the rank of Joint Chiefs of Staff by George W. Bush. Initially, US troops were sent to overthrow General Noriega's regime in Panama, a move criticized by the United Nations. The first Gulf War for the liberation of Kuwait was launched in Washington after Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. At the time, he called for military action only after diplomatic, political and economic measures had been exhausted. He also showed success.

Given Powell's career so far and his loyalty, the United Nations has also backed the attack.

His Work As Foreign Minister

He was determined not to let the situation simmer in the Gulf like in Vietnam. In 2000, George W. Bush appointed him Secretary of State. During the second Gulf War after the 9/11 attacks, warlords like Donald Rumsfeld in the Bush administration urged Saddam Hussein to invade Iraq for a second time. Powell initially opposed it, but later backed the action. In order to gain moral support for the action, the bad administration outlined in Powell the need and morality of an invasion of Iraq before the United Nations Security Council.

Given Powell's career so far and his loyalty, the United Nations has also backed the attack. But despite the fact that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, such weapons have not been found in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Powell had to admit 18 months after Saddam's assassination that the intelligence he had received was wrong. Shortly afterwards, he resigned as foreign minister.

Colin Powell was a great general, diplomacy and the political front, however, were more confusing and intrusive. He became an official member of the Republican Party in 1995. The following year, discussions began on his name to run for president against Bill Clinton. However, he avoided the temptation by saying that he did not get a call from inside for his political career. However, he acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Lincoln's party.

Despite supporting Obama twice, he remained a Republican until the end. ‘The Republican president I saw was conservative, but he was willing to compromise. Now that tradition is fading, he said of Trump's Republican rule. Covid-19 put an end to the life journey of this noble personality. Despite being at the peak of his success, he made a mistake once in his life, but Powell had the dignity to admit it. This quality has become rare in today's age.
