The Final Killer Drone Debacle in Afghanistan

Of course, we all thought POTUS and his Chief of Staff (and others) were telling us the truth. People who lie will always get caught. The truth really does come out and so it has here.

Biden's decision to leave Afghanistan was just after 20 years in trying to bring this backward country and peoples into a democracy. How it was done is simply disgraceful and a debacle even though over 100,000 were flown out. That still does not exempt POTUS because before the final flight left, 13 more American soldiers were killed by a terrorist bomb in the mayhem. With that happening, there was a massive rush to cull through over 60 intelligence reports coming in from a variety of sources to determine legitimacy. In the course of the debacle of it all and a much over confidence in the 'Over the Horizon" capabilities that Biden bragged about, there was a rush to judgment when it came to the zeroing in of the soon to be target of the killer drone.

How ironic is it that the target for the final killer drone strike, at the very last stage of a 20-year war, kills and Afghan who worked for an American NGO delivering food and water to those in need AND seven kids and three others! Just how did Biden's "over the horizon" capability screw this last mission up?

After weeks of denial from the US military leaders than children had been killed, proof leaked out from Afghanistan that neither Biden nor his generals could refute for long and then they had to all had to admit a mistake was made. Originally, Biden et. al., stated that their confidence was high that a wannabe terrorist was stopped with a van loaded with fuel bombs and that the explosion was solid proof since the blast was big. The drone pilot guiding it from thousands of miles away followed the suspected vehicle for eight hours until the green light to fire the Hellfire missile happened. The CIA also watching and guiding information, however, warned the command several seconds before the decision to fire of children in the street next to the vehicle, this was confirmed later by Afghan witnesses. Some of those kids were those of the suspect driver who were greeting him as he drove down the narrow ally. The containers that the US intelligence had inside the vehicle was that they were barrels of fuel, ready to turn the vehicle into a huge explosion later at the airport. Since there were no boots on the ground or others to verify it, we now know that the barrels were water! This Afghan man was bringing barrels of water to the local residences. This man and his family were all trying to get visas to leave Kabul and flee the Taliban.

In reality, there was really no verifiable info from the ground that the driver was connected to ISIS-K, as suspected and cause the attention to turn on the man and the vehicle. The only information was second hearsay. But that set in motion a death sentence ending with the drone strike.

How fitting that it happened at the end of the 20 year war as it is a metaphor of how it all went wrong. Such a tragic event and demonstrates that Biden's 'over the horizon" war on terror in Afghanistan is near impossible without having assets on the ground. It also shows just how a simple wrong piece of information about another can generate a drone strike.

Biden is not much better than Trump in foreign affairs. America deserves better.

I agree, it is also true regarding intelligence with boots on the ground to verify the target up to the minute before the drone fires.

After the use of drones in the recent war between Azerbaijan and Armenia many military thinkers are thinking that drones are everything. This is not correct as field marshal Montgomery in his 'History of Warfare' has written no battle can be won without the infantry soldier holding the ground. This is where the Americans lost out. Drones are not human and mistakes are bound to happen and they have to be accepted but the Americans must realize they have no infantry soldiers on the ground in Afghanistan, hence the use of drones not going to help much.

I don’t believe that. The National Resistance Front is fighting back against the Taliban (our creation), and I think women will never go back to how it was there.

“Millions are standing with Ahmad Massoud, the Leader of National Resistance Front of Afghanistan against the foreign invasion.”

“the Taliban will have the fate of the Soviets”

I think for them, it can’t get any worse than it’s been…..

They have to make it better!

Taliban must be defeated by them. We have washed our hands.

You should watch this:

“We have to kill children that see us”

It’s war to begin with. Once we’re in it, all’s fair. The military has apologized, and the families are seeking restitution.

It’s horrible to say, but we’ve become blasé about death.

Gun deaths… what?

Covid deaths……so what?

We don’t change anything. Why? Freedom.

We have this discussion all the time in America, and the best we can do is try and keep innocents out of it. Obama wrote in safeguards for civilians…..Trump took them out.

5 dead in Benghazi: National disgrace, criminal probe.

4 dead in Niger:……zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

3,000 dead 9/11…..never forget

670,000 dead 2020-2021…..” I don’t have to vaxx or wear a mask if I don’t want to”

Cops shoot black men…..we still have people supporting the cops.

So, you want outrage against Biden? Not from me. Im outraged out.

And for my outrage, I was told I’m a rabid anti semite and I hate America.

Too late for outrage. It’s selective. And that means politically motivated.

perrya (author) on September 19, 2021:

Well, in this specific case, it should have ben halted once the CIA alerted that children were in the kill zone at the very least.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on September 18, 2021:

What would you suggest? No more invading countries would be my suggestion. Likely to happen? Would be nice.

And I’d like to see pictures of dead Yemeni children, or dead Palestinian children we’ve helped kill….since we’re getting on a high horse.

We have been killing civilians for centuries. And Americans with guns massacre fellow Americans quite frequently, as well.

In fact, you could go to any emergency room in red states and find lots of dead people from Covid just TODAY!

Somehow, “freedom” is a good justifier for lots of death.

Sorry if I fail to see these deaths as any more tragic than any other.

This is a long and complicated situation. Being upset about civilian drone deaths is about 20 years too late.

Especially after I’ve never seen any outrage following Trump’s loosening of Obama’s rules to avoid civilians in 2017.

We have left a war. We had to make choices. Either way we went, people will die.
