The Cult of Donald Trump

Honestly, to most level headed and common sense people, whether left or right politically, it is hard to believe that so many still follow Trump like a God. Not all of Trump's fans are extremists in their belief of this man and those in the Congress and Senate that are Republican, continue to rally and defend him out of some fear.

As many have said, if Trump's actions since losing in the November election and specifically those on January 6, 2021, during his rally and speech before a crowd that were devout followers, do not get him impeached, then what a sad state the U.S. government is in.

While the impeachment trial will reveal that many of his demented followers were stupid enough to actually do whatever Trump suggests directly or indirectly. These are the hard core followers akin to those of another era in the 1930's when Hitler reached his popularity peak. In fact, like Trump, he could do pretty much anything and his followers would not be bothered. Trump seems to know this, which is why he was so bold in behavior and speeches. These were the hundreds that stormed the U.S. Capitol and threatened to kill Pelosi and Pence. These targets were originally suggested by Trump in camouflaged language. Trump created the January 6th coup attempt with his lies and false narratives about the election results that his devotees firmly believe still. When Pence would not go along with what Trump wanted, he tossed him under the bus and let his angry followers know his displeasure. Trump was issuing orders discreetly to his zombies that combat may be necessary and to take it to the Capitol to be heard.

Even though he said to his followers that he will be there with them at the Capitol, after his speech that made his followers into frenzied fools, he lied to them. He never even was in the area and high tailed it out of there to the safety of the WH. Just like all the other cult leaders have done in the past history, most notably, Jim Jones and Hitler. Trump went back to the WH to watch the mayhem and chaos that he knew he caused with glee, according to some staffers.

Now, the Republicans are not wanting to even do the impeachment trial out of some fear that Trump will be a force till 2024. Many of those arrested state that they were just following Trump's orders, as if they did not know right from wrong. Is it really possible that his followers are so brainwashed with the Trump false narratives? Maybe, its a Trump cult and the only way to end it is to eliminate the threat.

I think extensive use of drones is the way the monitor the border and have small units posted across areas where no phyical barrier is in place, but it will always be a mess.

Ara Vahanian from LOS ANGELES on February 02, 2021:

I think Leland is right on one point: there was an emphasis on having stronger border protection which I am in favor of. However, I'm not sure that a border wall is the answer though. Trump will get credit for the tax reform that was passed in 2017- the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. But one has to ask how did the United States get to the point where we had that incident on January 6, 2021? That's a complex question with a lot of factors. I am not a Trump supporter but I do realize that there was an attempt to address the border issue.

I don’t want to sound disagreeable just for the sake of disagreeing, but again, I have to disagree with you. It isn’t that “many” teens were forced into the Hitler youth and jungend maden, most joined willingly, even happily. Some exceptions were made for children who had to stay home to work the farm. The family that didn’t want their children to go were the exception to the rule, not the “many” as you say. These elements challenge your comparison, not just because the vast majority of Germans did NOT follow Hitler blindly, but willingly, but also because we Trump supporters believe in his plan for America: strong borders, respect for unborn life, bringing back our troops, reduced unemployment, investment in inner city youth programs, creating task forces to find and liberate victims of human trafficking, and so much more. I take it that you are unaware of the Trump administration’s successes in those areas. You would have to be otherwise it would mean you are against those policies and I hope that’s not the case.

perrya (author) on February 02, 2021:

Let's just say, many did follow him blindly and many were willing to go along to save their own skin. Many were were teens and forced into it by parents or society pressure. Like his core supporters, Trump has many in this category

It has nothing to do with admitting wrong and the German people didn’t follow Hitler blindly. They knew what he was, they were, for the most part, as anti Semitic as he was. Please consider reading “Hitlers Willing Accomplices” by Daniel Jonah Goldberg. You’ll never be able to say the Germans followed Hitler blindly after reading it.

perrya (author) on January 31, 2021:

I agree, admitting you are wrong is very hard, but some truly would follow Trump blindly just like those who did with Hitler.

Ara Vahanian from LOS ANGELES on January 29, 2021:

The title of this article is right on the money! This isn't the Republican Party anymore, it is a deranged cult. These people want to believe what he says not just because they're brainwashed but they just don't know any better. They have lost their analytical and critical thinking skills. They don't stop to think "Oh maybe this guy isn't as good as I thought he was." They just don't want to change themselves which is a scary thing.

Leland Johnson from Midland MI on January 29, 2021:

“Just a bunch of lunatics interested in mayhem and chaos.” And what do you think the SA (brownshirts) was all about? There you go again- “insane, stupid,” etc. You just don’t know as much as you think you know. You’re using names of familiar dictators out of context. As far as BLM goes- yes, they’re violent, they are socialist- those two elements alone justify the comparison. Antifa is anything but a “loose organization.” They are well funded by the Open Societies Organization and are currently training in guerilla combat tactics. Like I said, you’re not well informed Perry.

perrya (author) on January 29, 2021:

When I refer to the Hitler analogy of Trump's followers, you know, what i am talking about, that is, their devout blind faith in a very flawed man proven to only think of himself and will do anything to promote his ego, his family, his business at the expense of the US. If the US gains benefits it is only ancillary to those Trump gets. The Republicans are like those who were around Hitler and Mussolini, in the sense that they fear him and his most loyal idiots that beleive that when he speaks, he is giving them direct orders to act in his behalf. Now, some trumpers are not so stupid and do see Trump for what he is and are willing to call him out. Those are patriots. Comparing SS to BLM is just insane and Antifa is such a loose organization many do not even believe there is a centralized leader, just a bunch of lunatics interested in mayhem and chaos.

Leland Johnson from Midland MI on January 28, 2021:

We certainly see the mirror image of the issue. The Hitler /SS analogy does not fit. The SS (shutzstaffel) was a paramilitary organization that was ideologically trained and indoctrinated in core nazi philosophy. It’s counterpart might be considered or compared to the East German stasi or even the Russian KGB. These were branches of the governments with which they were associated. There is no equivalent on the political American right. The left however supports BLM and ANTIFA, both militant, radical elements that murdered, pillaged, and rioted all summer with the support of Biden and Harris, the liberal media declaring the riots “mostly peaceful expressions of democracy.” The things you are saying are contributing factors in the dismantling of protective policies put in place by the Trump administration; the border wall for example. I assume we would disagree about that as well, but I bet if you owned property near our southern border or if you had ms13 gang members walking through your back yard you might come to agree with me. Trump policies were about protecting all Americans. Biden is undoing them one by one. Why am I a cult member for wanting my countrymen to be safe? I encourage you to stop using the insulting verbiage you have embraced. Name calling with words containing more syllables is still beneath reasonable citizens.

Can you name a right wing equivalent to the SS? I don’t think you can, but you note that I named two equivalents (BLM, ANTIFA) equivalents on the left.

perrya (author) on January 28, 2021:

We will just have to disagree about the positives of Trump, which are a few. Not all Trump supporters support Trump's lies and his reality, but the radical elements of his followers are simply idiots, much like the many who followed Hitler in the SS and Brownshirts.

Leland Johnson from Midland MI on January 27, 2021:

Perry, you really are a curiosity. I feel the need to comment because you are so terribly misinformed, so incredibly mistaken. Antifa and BLM were the instigators behind the Jan 6 riot, not Trump supporters, not people like me. One female Trump supporter was indeed swept up to a place she shouldn’t have been, but she didn’t deserve to be murdered for it. It’s a strange paradox that Democrats call for peace and unity while simultaneously calling those they want peace and unity with “cult members.” You’re not winning people over to your way of thinking with that sort of commentary. I wonder if you’re really this mistaken or if you’re propagandizing on behalf of the CCP? Trump’s policies brought the lowest unemployment rate in our nations history, created more jobs and opportunities for minorities of every race, created an energy independent US, protected the unborn going so far as to call children in the womb “made in the image of Almighty God,” secured and protected our nation’s borders (guess what- all nations have borders) denuclearized N. Korea, and so much more. Agreeing with those policies makes me a cult member? Perry, you’re just spewing hate, venom, and poisonous lies. It’s very sad. I hope you’ll consider what I’ve said. I don’t want to “tell you off.” Id just like you to know the truth.
