The Aftermath of the 2016 Election

I'm on the right side of politics and enjoy a good debate on government, the economy, common sense, and the rights of the people.

President-Elect Trump

President-Elect Trump

The aftermath of a Presidential election is usually emotionally charged, with the supporters of the victorious candidate being elated, while those of the candidate which wasn’t chosen, dejected and disappointed. Various fringe factions of both Democrats and Republicans will spend the next few days either making excuses for their candidates shortcomings, predictions about the future President, or gloating to the media or naysayers within their own Party on how they were right and someone else was wrong. The media will sift through the stories and choose which to publish; usually to further the media outlet’s narrative. Regardless of the volumes of material expected over the next few days, it doesn’t change the election outcome.

Establishment Democrats

Democrats as expected are the unhappiest people in the nation today, with many likely still in a numbed state of shock over Hillary Clinton being defeated by a man who up until yesterday had never been elected to public office. A quick check across all the major news sources identifies the Hollywood crowd to be the most vocal group in expressing their feelings on the election. Most are expressing their anger over what they seem to feel will be a loss of momentum of the progressive agenda President Obama has been pursuing. President-elect Trump is criticized heavily in most of their comments using the same list of negatives that the Democrats used daily during the election cycle, in their failed attempts to paint Trump as a racist misogynist white male who will do terrible things to the country. Of course, these terrible things are pure speculation on their part; since Trump has never been in a political leadership position, how he will run the nation has yet to be revealed.

Republican Anti-Trumpers

On the Republican side of the fence, there are many who stood firmly in their conviction that they were against Trump wholeheartedly and campaigned against him with zeal. So-called Party leaders such as Arizona Senator John McCain, Jeb Bush, Ohio Governor John Kasich, and Senator Lindsey Graham all took the high road and cast their ballots for people other than their own nominee. Add their names to the list of more than a hundred other Senators, Governors, Congress People, and former government officials who refused to be part of Trump’s pathway to victory. Also, many donors, especially those with deep pockets, stood on the sidelines; refusing to support Trump. Those actions are certain to have a long lasting impact on the Republican Party and could hurt membership to the point the Party becomes a non-factor in future elections.

Financial Markets

The world financial markets, often used to determine acceptance of a major change in a nation’s politics, appeared to be crashing during the election. Traders were scooping up gold and other safe assets during the night and futures were dismal. But, in only a few short hours, the market has responded positively; when the proposed tax cuts and pro-growth policies of President-elect Trump were considered in the same light as the Republican victories in both houses of Congress, traders were encouraged. In what appears to be a repeat of how events unfolded after the United Kingdom voted to exit the European Union, the fear-mongering opposition was proven to be totally wrong. President-elect Trump has somehow calmed the financial markets without even speaking a word.

Many of the die-hard anti-Trump crowd have posted scathing articles on blogs and opinion sites. The content is largely negative and critical of American voters. Terms like “low information voters,” “desperation by whites,” “corruption,” and attacks on Christian voters are commonplace on these types of sites. One of the most troubling things in each and every one of these anti-Trump stories revolves around the concept of Conservatism. The Republican Party is not the Conservative Party. Republicans do lean that way, but being conservative is not the central Party platform. Yet, time after time, anti-Trump pundits try to make conservatism the defining characteristic for candidates. The larger percentage of this group comes from the Republican side of the political spectrum and is expected to dissipate over time as members of the GOP become more familiarized with the Trump agenda.

World Leaders React

Leaders across the globe weighed in on the election results. Top European Union officials have already invited President-elect Trump for what they call an “urgent” summit. The Secretary General of NATO was quoted as looking forward to working with Trump. The United Kingdom seems especially elated as a Trump election validated their Brexit vote. The President of France, Chancellor of Germany, and the Prime Minister of Italy all congratulated Trump as expected, however they are collectively on the fence about how his election will impact the world. President Putin of Russia, Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi of Egypt, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada were all very positive on Trump’s election. Asian countries and their leaders, including China and Japan, were very positive and extended messages of joint relationships in the future. Some Middle Eastern nations and pro-Muslim nations were somewhat cautious about making statements that could show anything other than a neutral stance on his election. Overall, the feelings the media wants to portray is a collective anxiety in hopes of keeping their own negative feelings alive.

Mexico is worth reviewing on a standalone basis. With illegal immigration, primarily from Mexico, being one of the tenants of the Trump campaign, his election suddenly makes it a top issue with the Mexican government. There are already stories being printed that are trying to create a culture of fear with Hispanics living in America. Trump’s victory sent the Mexican Peso tumbling for a second time in the last few months and NAFTA at a glance appears to be in jeopardy. Fears of mass deportations and immigration raids are being realized in the illegal immigrant communities across the country. Already the media is trying to divide people with inflammatory rhetoric. Mexico said on Wednesday it would work with Donald Trump for the benefit of both nations, but reiterated it would not pay for his planned border wall. Additionally, Mr. Trump has succeeded with one of his key platform items; a renegotiation of NAFTA, before even taking office. Both Mexico and Canada have publically announced they would come to the table to renegotiate it. Seems as it President-Elect Trump is already turning heads with his policy negotiating skills.

Post Election Protests, Violence, and Mayhem

Never in American history has a Presidential election been followed up with the level of organized protests like the nation is experiencing. Liberal cities across the country are watching large groups of mostly young people, illegal aliens, and foreigners wage violent protests. The individuals are expressing outright anger over Hillary Clinton being fairly and soundly defeated by President-elect Trump. Despite no improprieties occurring, there is a sentiment that somehow things weren't fair with this small group of people. Since most of the people involved have little experience in participating in the election process, their behavior afterwards comes as no surprise to many. In the liberal world where everyone gets a participation ribbon and there are no winners or losers, the finality of this loss is difficult for some people to process. There are many already calling on the current President to put a stop to the violence before it gets too far out of control.

The direction of America has gone decidedly right, much to the chagrin of the left. Those on the right see the victory as a way to "make America great again" and "take back our country." Those on the left see Trump's victory as a reversal of the numerous social policies they have supported over the year. The nation was changed dramatically with the election of President Obama, mostly for the negative, but Republicans didn't riot, they didn't try to impeach President Obama, nor did they burn American Flags. Now when the pendulum is swinging the other way, it seems as if those on the left are publically displaying those characteristics they so frequently accuse Republicans of. Time will tell if the election of Trump will be a good thing or a bad thing, just as time told every past President's story. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully it will be the first day of many days where we return to being a nation that is focused on everyone's prosperity versus the success or failure of one group or another.

A few years ago, a local TV station followed and filmed a school bus picking up children as they crossed the border from Mexico, and hauling them to school. Of course the Principal of the school denied all knowledge of having non-citizens attending his school, even though he is also in charge of the bus drivers.

The reason is the school gets paid a certain amount per student so they could care less where they live.

In some of our border towns, many living in Mexico collect various forms of welfare by renting a mailbox on the US side of the border. This is common practice and is well known, but so far nobody is interested in stopping this abuse of our system.

This is just another example of officials choosing to ignore the laws that are already on the books.

Ralph Schwartz (author) from Idaho Falls, Idaho on January 24, 2017:

Many illegals who have been here a long time, ACTUALLY think they have some rights. Funny how squatters seem to think they can decide on how things are handled in our government. This could easily be remedied by taking a couple random towns near the border and doing a deep dive into voter registration versus actuals, but no one will do that because they would expose the entire flawed system of California

Banned cause of PISSANTS Promisem and Dean Traylor on January 24, 2017:

So Trump just said 3 -5 million illegals lost him the popular vote and the media! Without actually investigating the possibility the media leads with "Trump Repeats Lie About Popular Vote in Meeting With Lawmakers"

Truth is if they did their homework they'd have to conclude Trump Is Right — Millions Of Illegals Probably Did Vote In 2016 so who is it that is lying to the public?

Ralph Schwartz (author) from Idaho Falls, Idaho on January 24, 2017:

Now that President Trump has taken office, the norm by the mainstream media (liberal shills,) and the democrats will be to nitpick steadily. They'll take ever campaign promise and try to find ways to show Trump either isn't doing something or not on his original timetable. They'll stonewall his cabinet picks as much as they can to slow the wheels of progress. They'll certainly use the Oscar's and other entertainment industry events as a bully pulpit to demean him as was done at the Globes. We'll see the usual suspects drop bombs on Twitter, make outlandish statements, and have useless rallies and demonstrations all trying to delegitimize his Presidency.

And for what gain? The answer is obvious as it always has been - the Democratic Party knows that their relevance depends heavily on identity politics, inflammatory and usually unproven rhetoric from their talking heads, and convincing every special interest group (LGBT, feminists, etc.) that Trump is going to take away their rights or worse. Trump having success demonstrates that their brand of politics doesn't work in America anymore, and only enriches the insiders; leaving the average American gasping for breath under the crushing boot heel of their oppression. President Trump has brought more positive conversation and action about the economy in a few short weeks, than Obama did in eight years.

We'll have to wait and see how long they continue the useless "not my president" protesting; maybe once a few are locked up for starting a riot, we might see things change.

Connie on November 15, 2016:

On the topic of protests, I see them not as a denial of the Trump presidency per say or a hope of getting the electoral college to turn out for Clinton. It's more about people getting together to vehemently voice their concern for this election of Trump. Our country as a whole deserves to know how many people were offended by this election and why. It deserves to know that this is not an ordinary election.

Whether he has offended you or not, it is an objective truth that Trump has offended many many Americans in the brash comments he has used during his campaign and in the videos that have come out about him.

To dismiss them as mere "campaign strategy" or "rhetoric" isn't going to cut it. To dismiss them as "locker room banter" or even a poor choice of words isn't going to cut it.

I'm don't think violence is necessary, but that is also overblown, as these protests mostly are non-violent. One in Austin the other night became violent toward one Trump fan who showed up. But a Muslim American protestor stepped in to shield the Trump supporter from the aggressor. Six supporters were also arrested.

Then you say that we should all give Trump a chance, just like we're supposed to give every President a chance to serve. I'm personally rooting for him, but I'm not too hopeful given all that has come up about him. I'm not even sure he'll be out for the working class Americans who voted for him.

How does a billionaire begin to understand the plights of the working class? Really perhaps the only thing he understands is disgruntledness. He understands their desire for upward mobility. That is why he identifies so well with the frustration and anger of the working class that overlaps with the petit bourgeois, the lower-middle class folks who used to be middle-class or who strives to be that.

Suzie from Carson City on November 14, 2016:

Dear Americans............

What has Trump done??

Last night a friend claimed that Donald Trump wouldn’t make a good president; he is brash, he is racist, he is a loudmouth; you know the normal things people learn to recite after being programmed by television news.

The one I loved was that, “Trump is arrogant.”

My friend questioned if one man could make “that much difference in the world today.” To my friend's credit, she was respectful enough to let me respond when she asked, “Really, what has Trump done?”

I said, “In June of last year, Trump entered the race for president. In just a little over a year, Trump has single handedly defeated the Republican party.

He did so thoroughly. In fact, he did so in such a resounding way that the Republican Party now suffers from an identity crisis. He literally dismantled the party. Trump even dismantled and dismissed the brand and value of the Bush family.

Trump has Obama petrified that Trump will dismiss programs that weren’t properly installed using proper law.

Trump has single handedly debunked and disemboweled any value of news media as we knew it—news now suffering from an all-time level of distrust and disrespect.

Trump has leaders from all over the world talking about him, whether good or bad. Trust me, powerful men who have been president before weren’t liked by the global community. I doubt Mikhail Gorbachev liked Reagan when Reagan said, "Tear down that wall."

Trump has expressly disclosed the fraud perpetrated on the American public by Hillary Clinton. He has, quite literally, brought Hillary to her knees—if you believe that nervous tension and disorders offer physical side effects and damage.

Trump has unified the silent majority in a way that should be patently frightening to “liberals.” As the press accuses Trump of being a house of cards, Trump has proven the press is the real house of cards. He has whipped up the entire establishment into pure panic. Trump has exposed them for who they are and worse, what they are. George Clooney was right when he said Trump draws live news coverage of his podium that he’s not yet approached. Thanks, George, you were perfectly correct.

What we see as headline news today are actually the last bubbles from the ship that is now sunk—meaning the standard news media, as a propaganda machine, has been exposed. They have no more value.

In the same way Trump asked the African-American community this question, I asked you my friend, ”At this point, what do you have to lose?” We have mass cop shootings, riots in our streets, ambushed cops, double digit inflation, bombs blowing up in our cities, targeted police, a skyrocketing jobless rate, no economic growth, privately owned land being seized by the federal government, the worst racial tension in my lifetime, no God in schools, more abortions than ever, illegal aliens pouring into our country, sick veterans receiving no care, and a debt that doubled in seven years to $19 trillion. Are you really happy with the condition of the current system?

One man has done all of this in one year—one guy, and on his own dime. And with everything I’ve written above, you believe Trump hasn't done anything? You claim that you are afraid of Donald Trump? No wonder we’re in trouble.

You can say that Trump is a lousy presidential candidate. That’s your right. Just don’t ever say he’s not effective.

That Megan Kelly, FOX News, CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, Rachel Maddow, the Huffington Post, the New York Times, Raleigh’s News and Observer, the AP, Don Lemon, Jake Tapper, and many more, failed to implement their collectively orchestrated lie on the American people against Trump, is actually a massive testament to Trump. The press colluded pure propaganda to accomplish his demise … and they have collectively failed and miserably.

Here's just one example of how badly America is injured right now. There are high school football players on their knees during the national anthem simply because the press used as propaganda to program those kids to do that very thing. But, these kids are mimicking NFL stars the same way the same kids choose which brand of football shoe to purchase—they're overtly brain-washed to do that very thing.

Now, we have a generation of children who hate America.

America’s problem isn’t that little children are on their knee in collective disrespect of America. Our problem is that America is on her knee from collective disrespect by Americans.

You can disrespect America all you want. But, it’s high-time you respect the silent majority. Because they’re not simply the “silent majority” as you’ve been trained to believe when Hillary calls them “deplorables.” The fact is, they are simply the majority. And now they're no longer silent either. Donald Trump changed all of that, single-handedly and within one year."

Carolyn Fields from South Dakota, USA on November 14, 2016:

I actually don't believe that Trump won the popular vote. Even FOX is reporting that Hillary won that. But it doesn't matter. Trump won the EC. And NO, you can't drop the Electoral College AFTER the election (although you could change it for the NEXT one). That's changing the rules after the game has been played. What if we played a Superbowl game, didn't like the results, and decided to count touchdowns at 10 points, and fields goals as 1 point, in order to change the outcome AFTER the game had been played? There would be even more rioting in the streets than you see now.

Come on people! It's over. Trump won. Wrap you head around that the best you can, and move forward.

Banned cause of PISSANTS Promisem and Dean Traylor on November 14, 2016:

Just more evidence how liberals don't care about the facts, they desperately use and spin anything they can to create a false narrative which in this case is that Hillary really won the election by popular vote. They could care less what the truth is, now it's out there that Hillary won the popular vote you'll be hearing that for decades to come from their uninformed brainwashed minions.

Ralph Schwartz (author) from Idaho Falls, Idaho on November 13, 2016:

They were using partial results - three states weren't even counted

Suzie from Carson City on November 13, 2016:

Mike, I have read in numerous articles on as many sites that it's been established Trump ALSO WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

This is fact....simple arithmetic, bona-fide, documented and announced.

How on earth do they spin this?...............Never mind, forget I asked such a useless question. Of course they will because that's what they do. That, in fact, is ALL they do.

Old Poolman on November 13, 2016:

Now that Michigan has reported Trump has also won the popular vote. I wonder if the liberals will accept this as fact?

Ralph Schwartz (author) from Idaho Falls, Idaho on November 13, 2016:

It would be like a kid waking up and finding themselves alone in the house - mon and dad gone, no money, heat shut off - they'll cry for a few days but eventually being hungry will motivate them to get off their rear ends

Suzie from Carson City on November 13, 2016:

Incredibly powerful article by Mike Adams! He truly puts it all out there in a rational, focused way that cannot easily be refuted.

My hope is that little by little, the sleepers will begin to awaken, face the hard core facts of reality & get on board the Train of Life among the living, rational & working. One day, it absolutely has to be an awakening for those who as yet, just don't get it.

Banned cause of PISSANTS Promisem and Dean Traylor on November 13, 2016:

Trouble is brainwashed people are always in denial of the truth and impossible to reason with, although the language in that video may just be the words they well understand and are at home with, Maybe it will get through to some?naw the brainwashed won't listen to it.

One last thought about my previous comment about "people... who buy into their lunacy and actually need psychiatric help to cope." We may not have to worry about them for long:

Why precious college snowflakes will eliminate themselves from the human gene pool at the next natural selection event!

Suzie from Carson City on November 13, 2016:

DTMB.....They were nice enough to print a "Warning" for the video about it's harsh, (perhaps shocking & offensive to some) language~~ explaining that British aired media does not find it necessary in the least to censor and/or bleep, "a bloody word!" Once Ralph reads it, he almost has to delete it~ as you can see.

Yes, it IS quite powerful. Once again, proof that the simple TRUTH is what is needed, as well as accepted.

Suzie from Carson City on November 12, 2016:

Ralph & this & then delete it. Can't let the delicate psyches here with their immature, spineless "PC" attitudes be "offended or disturbed." We know how the blatant truth throws them into a tither....

Most probably will get tired in a few days and stop rioting - only so much the news will cover until America is bored

Old Poolman on November 12, 2016:

For many, their biggest concern was loosing their free birth control. And as far as I am concerned the fewer babies they raise the better for the rest of us. I'll send Trump a letter begging him to not take free birth control away from them. I would even kick in a few bucks a month to make sure they get all the birth control they need.

Banned cause of PISSANTS Promisem and Dean Traylor on November 12, 2016:

You are right about that Ralph, can never happen, explained why here

But since when has the loony left ever paid attention to the facts? They truly are loony as can be, and the sad thing is there are people, mostly millennials, who buy into their lunacy and actually need psychiatric help to cope with things like the outcome of this election because they have been convinced by the loony left that Trump will allow climate change to destroy the world and take away their health care, they actually believe the world will end before they can grow old.

Nice piece of writing Ralph. I heard that there are so many tears flowing in parts of the country they may have to sandbag the lower areas of town.

As for the protests, if the media would just go away so would the protesters. Except of course those who are being paid and were bused in to take part in the protests.

It will eventually smooth out and I have a good feeling about the next four years. I firmly believe Trump is going to make some positive changes that will impress all but the most hard-core left wing liberals.

Banned cause of PISSANTS Promisem and Dean Traylor on November 11, 2016:

Great summary of the aftermath Ralph.

Jack lee, good point BUT...

they have long been exposed, practically every election since Reagan has demonstrated their agenda and has not been a secret in recent times and yes it was exposed in spades by this election mainly because of email leaks, leaks that proved what many have long believed, but exposure for what it is will do nothing to stop it. They have indoctrinated too many in the electorate, at least half and indoctrination isn't expelled by the shedding light on it because indoctrination requires a denial of the truth. It has to be cut out or like a malignant cancer that is partially removed, what remains will still kill you.

Ralph, I'm sure you heard about the "magnanimity" of Obama and Hillary's concession speech. What a superb facade they present, working together, hope he succeeds, bla, bla ,bla when anyone with a knowledge of this Democrat party knows they are already plotting behind closed doors how to take down the Trump administration, the NY Times "conservative" journalist David Brooks saying don't worry he will resign or be impeached in a year.

Obama and Hillary have done nothing but lie their entire careers, why would anyone believe what they say about wanting Trump to suceed and working together now?

Jack Lee from Yorktown NY on November 11, 2016:

A well written piece of reality. The one thing I would add is the election of Trump put the Main Street Media on notice. They have been exposed and perhaps marginalized. Their past influence behind the scenes to help Democrats did not work this time and they are clueless. Some should be fired. They need to go back to being journalist first, partisans last.

Carolyn Fields from South Dakota, USA on November 11, 2016:

I was hopeful that the liberal press and Hollywood stars would just slink away into a dark corner. No chance. It seems like they are doubling down on their hate-filled rhetoric. In one last pathetic attempt to fan the flames, I have even heard for calls to "rig" the electoral college, and vote Hillary into office that way. Cry babies, one and all. I so want to move on in a positive direction. Perhaps Christmas, with all the shiney objects, will distract them. Okay . . . now I am just being mean. I'll stop.

Thanks for this post. Solid article.
