Yesterday, Egypt witnessed a suspicious incident, which is the incident of Qatay Al-Upper Egypt in Sohag Governorate.

Successive events in Egypt as a result of the Sohag train accident, which killed dozens of victims, between 32 dead and 165 injured.

The Sohag train accident occurred as a result of the collision of the distinguished train No. 157 and the Spanish train 2011.

A train collision in Sohag took place on Friday morning, at 11:42 am.

Causes of collision of the two trains

The Administrative Prosecution Authority opened an urgent investigation into the incident and mandated the specialized technical committees to examine and submit their reports to the prosecution promptly.

Comment from President Sisi about the incident

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed the formation of a committee from the Administrative Control Authority, the Engineering Authority, the Military Technical College, and the College of Engineering, to investigate the Sohag train accident.

And reveal all the circumstances of the incident and determine the reasons and responsibilities.

He also directed that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the Ministers of Health, Social Solidarity and Transport be relocated to the site of the accident to follow up on the procedures for caring for the victims, and to assign the armed forces to participate in transporting the injured and medical care.

On his official Facebook page, President Al-Sisi wrote: I closely followed the tragic accident that we saw today, with two trains colliding in Sohag governorate.

The pain that squeezes our hearts today will only increase our determination to end such a pattern of catastrophes, and I directed the Prime Minister and all concerned agencies to be present at the site of the accident and continuous follow-up and to provide me with all developments and reports related to the situation throughout the moment, provided that everyone who caused this accident receives a deterrent penalty Pain.

And as I extend my full condolences to the families of the martyrs who met their Lord today, I offer the families of the injured full sympathy, support, and my wishes for a speedy recovery, God willing.

I direct the concerned agencies to take all necessary measures and provide adequate compensation to the families of the martyrs and victims.

Actions taken by the government

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, traveled to the headquarters of the accident to inspect the situation and check on the injured in the Sohag train collision, which occurred this afternoon, accompanied by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population, and Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister Social solidarity.

The Prime Minister expressed his deep sorrow and sadness over the occurrence of a number of victims as a result of the accident, directing his sincere condolences to their families, wishing recovery to the injured, stressing that he directed all ministries and relevant authorities to harness all their capabilities to deal with this painful incident.

The railway authority commented on the accident

The Railways Authority issued an urgent statement about the occurrence of a collision of two trains in the village of Al-Sawamiah, west of the city of Tahta, in Sohag Governorate.

Meanwhile, at 11:42 am, the air-conditioned Aswan Cairo train collided with the rear of the last car with a 157 train, which led to the overturning of two vehicles from the rear of the 157 train that was stopping on the railway and the 2011 train tractor and the power wagon overturned, which led to a number of injuries and deaths.

Compensation approved by the state for the victims of the accident

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, said that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed to double the numbers of financial compensation for the martyrs of Sohag trains and their families, as the amount is currently 100,000 pounds for deaths, and from 20 to 40 thousand pounds for injuries, according to the situation of the injury itself.
