Maybe it is just me, but, to think that no major news organization has even mentioned how close Russian warships sailed to Honolulu during their naval exercise to sink a U.S. carrier, is just as startling. It shows that these organizations can really control news dissemination to the general public which should be worrisome.

The Russian naval flotillas in the largest naval exercise since 1991 took place in the Pacific. There were two groups in this practice and it was the smaller group of seven ships that moved to within 35 miles of Honolulu. The larger group was stationed hundreds of miles south of Hawaii. According Russia, the exercise was all about their ability to launch cruise missiles to sink a carrier. Also in the exercise were several large TU-142 Bear bombers that approached the US zones, which scrambled several F-22 fighters to counter the intrusion from Hawaii airbases, This actually happened twice in mid-June. These bombers were escorted by Russian MiG-31. The two groups of Russian flotillas were some 300 miles from one another in this exercise.

Some 20 Russian ships were involved in this huge operation and when the smaller group moved to within 35 miles of Hawaii, the USN was there to greet them and ward them off.

Coincidently, the carrier Carl Vinson, the flagship of the carrier strike group, was operating with Carrier Air Wing 2, Destroyer Squadron 1, the guided-missile destroyers USS O’Kane, USS Howard, USS Chafee, USS Dewey and USS Michael Murphy. The Chafee and Michael Murphy are based at Pearl Harbor. The USN carrier group was also in the area on their naval exercise off Kauai! The carrier is the first to base F-35C stealth fighters.

One Russian ship, Kareliya, had disrupted a USN missile test using its ECM in recent months, which had to be rescheduled.

The endgame for the Russians is that they are more than willing to use the Pacific as a means to test and evaluate their systems against ours. They were open about the exercises and what they were targeting. They tested US defenses and its bombers flew over 1600 miles from Russian airbases. They did all this just a week after Biden and Putin had their face to face and it is clear where Putin stands when it comes to the US.

Any kind of military exercise is for one reason- to decide whether a real attack could be successful and to evaluate weapon systems. Meanwhile, while the Russian flotillas have left the Hawaiian area, their spy ships continue to lurk in Hawaiian waters gathering intel.

I agree, we make the same mistakes and never learn from history.

Sharlee on June 29, 2021:

"The Taliban will eventually control it all over again."

Yes, just as Vietnam quickly became a Communist, so will Afghanistan be controlled by the Taliban. It would seem we never learn. And did we not know this would be what would happen from the very first days we entered this war?

perrya (author) on June 29, 2021:

The Vietnam war was all about stopping communism, Afghanistan was all about killing Bin Laden, but once that was done, we stayed in fear of Al Qeada and ISIS. It became a colonial-like occupation, which had to end sometime. Biden's mistake is not retaining a core contingent of US troops there and support services for the Afghan army. We know how this will end. The Taliban will eventually control it all over again. That is the real waste of 20 years.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 29, 2021:

Afghanistan is our longest “war”. What are we doing there? Trump made the deal to leave....I didn’t hear much grousing, then. In fact, he was praised for “getting us out of wars”. So NOW it’s an issue? Too late.

As far as Iran:

“Biden orders airstrikes on Iran-backed militias near Iraq-Syria border in response to UAV attacks.”

He’s not asleep. He knows more about what’s going on in the world than most.

I don’t blame them for being pissed, after trump assassinated Sulemani.

Aldo, your idea about who did 9/11 differs from mine.

I say it was neocon factions in USA, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

I say most of America is asleep, how about that?

Biden wants to go after these billionaire moochers and guns. THAT will solve more problems than Russia and China combined.

Time to stop using and killing the American people! Period.

MG Singh from UAE on June 28, 2021:

This discussion sometimes seems to lead nowhere one has to be very clear that if you want to rule the world you have to sacrifice. Nothing comes on a platter and one must also know that the Russia -China axis is something America and its allies cannot face. How would they face a colossal union of 1.6 billion people? I am also clear that there will not be a military clash between this colossus and America because they don't need it and they will win as it is and their first victory is in Afghanistan. Americans failed to tackle the problem in Afghanistan like in Vietnam. There was no clarity in thought and the sanctuaries of the Taliban in Pakistan were not touched; why I do not know. So the American army was fighting with one arm tied behind its back. Donald Trump realized the problem but he was not the man who had the mettle to continue the fight and the Americans have now thrown in the towel and are going to sleep with the same enemy who went and killed 3000 Americans in the 9/11 attack. Sometimes one requires a mirror to see how you look and the mirror is someone who is outside America it is sad that the American leadership led by Joe Biden didn't have the mettle to continue to fight in Afghanistan. The American's attempt to mollycoddle Iran is another aspect that is going to bring about doom and worse you have a chief executive whose son has been accepting gratification from the enemy that is China and your cup is full. I do not see how the American people could've voted such a man into power who actually should be feeding fish with his grandchildren.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 25, 2021:

“Senior official tells NPR the White House is informing both Congress and the Afghan government that it will relocate thousands of Afghan citizens – 20,000 to 100,000 – who worked for the US government before the official exit date of US troops 9/11.”

“President Biden has commented on the evacuation, saying today in response to a question, "Those who helped us will not be left behind."

Geez, responsibility….a forgotten concept.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 25, 2021:

“Nearly two decades and three U.S. presidencies later, with a war that claimed thousands of American and Afghan lives, President Biden has said he would do what none of his three immediate predecessors were able to: leave Afghanistan for good.

With 2001 now a generation in the past and the war effort recruiting soldiers born as many as three years after the attacks, Mr. Biden has opted to reprioritize American foreign policy objectives and redirect the war funding toward domestic concerns.

Among other aims, Mr. Biden is calculating that the U.S. should focus on challenges from Russia and China.“

And here trump gets credit for “ ending wars”. In fact, Trump made the deal to withdraw and Biden is honoring it.

You can have the opinion it’s bad, I don’t.

This may be a conspiracy theory, but I always heard we were there for the heroine.

Al Queda was a made up enemy to give us cover.

And I don’t want Afghani women’s rights going back to the Middle Ages….but it’s happening here, too!

We have the same fight right here.

And I’m not on the “woke” bandwagon….that’s just a way for the right to demean people they think are beneath them.

“Oh, they want the same rights? How woke of them.” As if wanting equality is wrong.

Cool, I say the right is asleep.

When will they wake up?

perrya (author) on June 25, 2021:

The rant is way off topic but it is fine. It is not OK for the American news media to just ignore foreign policy issues in favor of the same WOKE, injustice, equal rights frenzy all of them focus on. Biden will be blamed totally if the Aghan exit ends like the Fall of Saigon in 1975, and it seems like it will. Biden is pulling out even support for the Afghan army we armed and trained including its airforce. This is exactly what happened to the South Vietnamese army when we left in such a disgrace. I voted for Biden and so far his foreign policy decisions have been bad.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 24, 2021:

Well, that’s to be expected. He’s not your preferred president. Join the club of Americans who don’t like when the other side has power.

The exit from Afghanistan was already planned by Trump. Biden just delayed it.

“WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden is under mounting pressure as he weighs whether to fully withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan by May 1, a deadline negotiated by the Trump administration.”

And I would be happy if we broke our ties to Israel. It’s very expensive, and they spy on us. Americans complain if fellow Americans need help, but don’t bat an eye at the billions that go to Israel.

And, they are committing crimes against humanity, IMO.

But I am very much in the minority in that. Asking for just equal consideration for Palestinians is treated like a federal crime, here.

And of course the media is rightwing. 600 days straight of Hillary’s emails. Zero on trump showing up on Manafort’s mob phone. The media owners want their tax cuts, too, you know. That’s what Trump’s job was.

And look at this:

“Russian President Putin polls higher than President Biden among Trump voters, per new polling from Economist/YouGov.”

Don’t talk to me about patriotism any more. It’s dead.

perrya (author) on June 24, 2021:

Biden did not stop the Russian pipeline to Europe because of blowback from the Germans and since he wants to have good relations and since there is already one pipeline from there in operation, there is not much to do about it. But his exit from Afghanistan will end in disaster, as will the relations with Israel over time. Not real happy about his foreign policy decisions.

Sharlee on June 24, 2021:

Actually, this all happened on Bidens watch. Not sure where you come up with the idea that the right-wing owns the media, curious... Most of the American media is not covering this act of Russian aggression. I found the story in a Hawian newspaper. Biden dropped all the majority of heavy sancr=tions on Russia, he also OKed the Russian pipeline, that Trumpnstopped cold. Biden is most definitely in with Putin. This should be a concern to every American. Facts are facts. He OKed the pipeline and lifted most of the sanctions Trump slapped Russia with. You do not seem to be at all informed in regard to facts.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on June 24, 2021:

Putin installed a US president, didn’t he? Why shouldn’t he think he’s invincible?

Relax. Biden is no Trump. He’s wise to Vladimir.

Putin can choose to go after USA.

He’ll lose.

Nobody in the world likes him save Trump and the magas.

And since the right wing owns the media, don’t expect anything negative regarding Vlad.

He’s their macho white Christian.

And he’s shooting blanks.

Sharlee on June 24, 2021:

Yes, it is clear the media and White House are making sure we concentrate on a couple of things -- voting suppression, race relations, and now an infrastructure bill. I would think American's should start realizing problems are piling up, and no one is addressing them.

perrya (author) on June 24, 2021:

I fear you are right. Our enemies are finding our weak spots and one day....we are too occupied with WOKE and voting rights etc. In other words, domestic issues. What is happening in Afghanistan is shameful, just like Vietnam.

Sharlee on June 24, 2021:

Thank you for sharing... The media picks and chooses what they feed up. I guess this is just another problem that Biden considers not to be a problem. The country is in trouble and we seem to be fat with media propaganda that keeps us satisfied with whatever... We had a long run, but we are nearing the end of America as we have come to know it.
