38 "Ragged Old Flag"

Take pride in our flag

I would like to stick this song in Mr. Obama's ear and make him listen to it over and over.

I was listening to some classic country music, as I often do because I am a sentimental old fool, and they played this song. The first thing I thought of was, “Our very own president needs to listen to this.” “Maybe he would understand why “us” Americans are so strong about “our” flag and National Anthem the way it is and why we “never” want it changed.

I downloaded the lyrics but they won't let me publish them because they say it is a duplicate. So, here is the web site where you can go listen to Johnny Cash say, not sing, these words. A lot of people may “not” like Johnny Cash, but he was a true American and respected “our” country. I did however post a couple of quotes from the song. Hopefully, this is edited enough to allow it to be published.

I know I can't listen to the song without my chest booming with pride for our country and our flag. I know there are probably a lot of people out there that have never heard the song, some because they aren't country music fans and some because they are just too young to have ever heard it. It is hardly ever played on the radio, for whatever reasons, maybe because it mentions God, but I feel it should be played a lot more. As should other patriotic songs. In the state our country is in, everyone should be more patriotic, maybe more like they were after 9/11, but without the tragedy.

I just hope this gets published now with the revision.

I hope you enjoy this. Greg

He said "I don't like to brag, but we're kinda proud of
That Ragged Old Flag."

On second thought
I *do* like to brag
Cause I'm mighty proud of
That Ragged Old Flag"

The music of Johnny Cash express emotions and values that are universally understood. Politicians and demagogues everywhere have unfortunately use the banner of "patriotism" to fuel popular passions and prejudices for their own hidden agenda. This hub was written sometime ago. Despite much negative sentiment against his administration, Pres. Obama still won re-election. As one former president said, "It's the economy..." and what a person puts on the table to feed his family is what matters more than any flag waving regardless in which part of the world.

Hi Mary, Thank you. Tell your son I said thank you from all of us Americans. Our love of this country IS going to hold it together. I can't believe the people, (not me) voted for a ?man? that was a known flag burner and made him our president. Thank you for the votes. Greg

Johnny Cash, country music and american pie made this country great ;) Truly our love of country and respect for our flag have kept this country on track. Now if we can get the politicians on board we'll be okay.

When my youngest son started listening to Johnny Cash I was surprised, but then, he is a soldier and loves his country.

Voted up, interesting and awesome.

No one stands taller in my eyes than an American who serves our country to protect us. And johnny Cash was the man who could sing about it.

A great hub, I voted awesome and beautiful. You have a direct line to the heart and soul of what it means to be an American. Thanks you or sharing with us.

I love this song. It has always been a favorite. I'm only 28 but I know about Johnny Cash Walon and Willie. You are right about that. Our president and other so called officials need to hear it. I am proud to be an American and love this country. I served in the Army and although I was chaptered out for medical reasons and could not serve my full term enlisted, I am very proud to have served and trained with some of the greastest soilders out there. Thank you for publishing this.
