Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready to work with any US leader. But he is not yet ready to recognize Joe Biden as the winner of the US presidential election.
Putin made the remarks in an interview with Russian state television on Sunday. This information was reported in various international media reports.
"The American people have confidence that we will work with anyone," Putin said.
But Putin noted that confidence can only be given to a candidate whose victory is recognized by the opposition. Or the result of the election is legally valid.
This is the first time Putin has commented so openly on the outcome of the US presidential election.
Putin's remarks suggest he will not congratulate the winner until all legal issues related to the US presidential election have been resolved or a single candidate has been defeated.
Many world leaders congratulated Biden on his victory in the November 3 US presidential election. However, some world leaders have not yet recognized Biden. Putin is one of them.
Incumbent President and Republican candidate Donald Trump have been claiming victory in the election. He claimed that widespread vote-rigging had taken place. Otherwise, he is the winner. He is losing one case after another in the court over this allegation. He is trying various tricks to change the result of the election.
Putin described the Kremlin's decision not to congratulate Biden as a "formality". His comment, there is no other purpose here.
Asked whether the Kremlin's decision would damage US-Russian relations, Putin said there was nothing to damage relations; Rather this relationship has already been ruined.
Russia's foreign intelligence service has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating "Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia's intelligence have been made more than once.
