Packing Up

packing-up

The Kitchen is Closed

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Saturday, September 14, 2019. This day is different from all other days, because it is time for me to pack up my kitchen and say goodbye. I have been writing about all things political and social for a very long time. I have enjoyed it every step of the way. The friends I have made on Hubpages will remain in my heart forever, but I am tired of the ugliness of today's political climate and I want to get away.

Never have I witnessed so much divisiveness, anger and despicable behavior. We crossed a line in this country, and unless we find a way back we will be lost forever. Respect for the opinions of others is gone. Truth is undervalued and integrity is laughed at. I have decided to try my hand at a different kind of writing. What that will be, I don't know. Where I will land will be a new adventure for me.

I want you all to know that you have added so much to my life. Hubpages and the people I have met have enriched my days, and I thank you all. I wish only the best for all of you. Thank you and good-bye.

Patti

Nice to see you hanging around here from time to time. I still comment on the political disarray, to wit: "The 2020 Election is scarcely six months away, but today someone stated (already) who they will be voting for (presuming already that he is on the ballot), and I responded thusly: I plan to vote for a candidate who will keep his or her promises that 'If elected I will .... .' To make that judgement, I will have to look at what election promises they have actually kept in the past, and how many they made, but didn't keep. To date, I credit our president for keeping more than I can recall anyone else keeping, despite foot dragging, and kicking, and insults by his 'loyal opposition' which, in the 2016 Election campaigned on the slogan 'Stronger Together' a promise they have failed to keep for the greater good of the nation they want to lead." 4/26/2020

We are sure going to miss you

breakfastpop (author) on January 04, 2020:

Dear Paula,

Sorry I didn't answer right away. On top of having a completely different routine here, I forgot my Password! I love the raspberries. Election Day will be the perfect gift for the deranged liberals. Let's hope they eat them and go away. In the meantime, let's keep "talking. All my love from sunny Boca.

breakfastpop (author) on January 04, 2020:

Dear Lori,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My routine is so different here. I have tried writing about things other than politics. I wrote for text broker for about 2 years and enjoyed it. I have tried my hand at poetry, lyrics and short stories. I love the essay from of writing which led me to HP. I may return when things become less toxic. In the meantime, let's keep"talking". Have a great day.

Suzie from Carson City on December 31, 2019:

Hey...meant to mention...for the first time since my retirement....I did a little canning but mostly I froze RASPBERRIES. Saving them until November, at which time, I'll be generous enough to give ALL my raspberries to.....you guessed it, you quick-witted genius.....altogether now friends......"Paula's raspberries go to the Liberals!!" It's the least I can do for the pathetic morons.

Lori Colbo from Pacific Northwest on December 31, 2019:

Dear Patti, it's not worth risking your health and peace of mind to write on politics, but have you ever considered other topics?

breakfastpop (author) on December 31, 2019:

Dear Paula,

Whew, that was a close one!!! I almost jumped back into the circus, but you saved me. I love it down here and I have learned how to listen to a bit of news and not get too churned up. In any event, the one thing I know for sure is that I miss my friends. I love you too, Paula. I wish you and your beautiful family health, happiness and love in the New Year.

Suzie from Carson City on December 31, 2019:

Hi there Pop/Patti! Lori's right. We DO miss you. I can imagine how tempting it is to "jump back in" but because I know how happy & comfortable you are at this moment...and I love you.........Don't do it, girlfriend. Resist the urge, at least until after November.

Enjoy your current status, kick back and "watch what happens." Soon enough, it seems clear we'll be getting together for an amazing celebration! Soak up that Florida sun and rest up. The BIG PARTY happens in November!

MAY YOU HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

Paula

breakfastpop (author) on December 31, 2019:

Good Morning Lori,

You are an amazing person who always manages to bring a smile and a tear to my face. I am enjoying Florida. I have been keeping my distance(as much as possible) from this political hate fest, but I have to admit I have the urge to jump back in. I love hearing from you. Have a happy and healthy New Year.

breakfastpop (author) on December 31, 2019:

Dear John,

It's great to hear from you, and I hope you are doing well. I miss my friends on HP. Perhaps when I have the stamina and stomach for this political mess, I will return.

Lori Colbo from Pacific Northwest on December 30, 2019:

Just checking in Miss Patty. Your presence is missed by this here hubber and to many others, I know. I'm glad to hear you have new digs in a lovely climate. New Jersey? Don't blame you for becoming a snowbird. I hope and pray 2020 is full of blessings. We all love and care about you because you are you.

John Harper from Malaga, Spain on December 30, 2019:

Long time since I visited the Hub, but checking some of my older articles for other use, I started remembering all those I knew when I wrote here, and of course an delighted to see you still alive and kicking, albeit no longer writing also!

Enjoy your new home....

breakfastpop (author) on December 04, 2019:

Good Morning Paula,

Yes, we are officially snow birds. The weather is fabulous. Our place is across the street from a lake with resident fish, iguanas and who knows what else! It is the adventure we have been looking for. Enjoy you jammies. They sound wonderful.

breakfastpop (author) on December 04, 2019:

Good Morning gibberish,

We bought a condo in Boca Raton. The weather is amazing. Back home in New Jersey its gloomy, cld and wet!

Suzie from Carson City on December 03, 2019:

And you and your "exquisite" family do the same! Part-time Snow Birds now? How nice for you! Soak up those rays, girlfriend....enough for both of us, please. I have exciting news too! I just bought a new pair of really sexy thermal Jammies! So there!

jiberish from florida on December 03, 2019:

Welcome to Florida....North, South, East or West?

breakfastpop (author) on December 03, 2019:

Dear Paula,

Nag away, you know I love you. Actually, I have been so crazy busy for the last two months. We bought a pace in Florida to escape the bitter cold. All I do is shop and order online. I haven't had time to think of the madness in Washington, but naturally I haven't totally escaped it either. When things calm down, I will re-evaluate my situation. Have fantastic Christmas with your beautiful family.

jiberish from florida on December 03, 2019:

I've been gone for years....and have thought of you often...I was glad that you were still here....why in the world would you ever consider leaving? Don't let bad people bother you....Your followers love you....Best Wishes this Holiday.....

Suzie from Carson City on December 03, 2019:

Oh Good!! Pop...you mean if we "bug" you enough, you might consider coming back? That's good news to me because I've been voted "Extraordinary" when it comes to nagging!! :)

breakfastpop (author) on December 03, 2019:

Good Morning jiberish,

It is fabulous to hear from you. I think of you often and hope you are doing well. I appreciate your kind words. I can't deny that it feels great to hear that I made a difference. I will give some serious thought to your advice. Thank you so much.

jiberish from florida on December 02, 2019:

Don't go permanently..Take a short Vacation and come back...you make a difference.

breakfastpop (author) on October 31, 2019:

Good Morning Larry,

It is wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for understanding and truly "getting" my decision to leave politics behind. I don't know how successful I will be, but the whole scene is too ugly for words. Your support of my writing means a great deal to me. I have tremendous admiration and respect for your brilliant mind and opinions. You are also a really nice guy!

Warmest regards,

Patti

Larry Conners from Northern Arizona on October 28, 2019:

Patti...It has truly been a pleasure reading your weekly blog...I have just revisited hubpages after a long hiatus and the first thing I read is your decision to leave hubpages...I understand your frustration with the current political climate, the disrespect, the corruption, the moral depredation, etc, etc...Tom has said if we lose our way that will be a tragedy...It will certainly be a tragedy for our great nation and the noble experiment it represents, but it will also be a tragedy for the world...

I have the utmost respect for you as a person and as a brilliant writer...please continue your writing, be it in poetry or prose...Larry

breakfastpop (author) on October 21, 2019:

Good Morning Tom,

Your friendship is a treasure. I hope it continues, and I wish you all the best life has to offer.

breakfastpop (author) on October 21, 2019:

Good Morning Virginia,

I can't tell you how much your opinion means to me.

Tom Whitworth from Moundsville, WV on October 20, 2019:

Patti,

So sorry I havn't been around for a while. I regret hearing of your decision but understand it totally. The people of this republic need to find a way to reunite or the greatest experiment in governance by the people in the history of the Earth will fall by the wayside. What a tragedy that would be but that is our present path.

God bless you.

Virginia North Skok from Beaufort S.C. on October 10, 2019:

You are a real patriot. It was an honor to have read you articles.

breakfastpop (author) on October 01, 2019:

Good Morning Robert,

It is so wonderful to hear from you. I always loved your wonderfully written stories about your life. Thanks for all the support and the good wises. I wish you and your lovely family good health and happiness.

Good Morning Yves,

As I told brad, I am so sorry it took so long to get back to you. I appreciate all the support you have given me over the years, and I wish you all the wonderful things life has to offer.

breakfastpop (author) on October 01, 2019:

Good Morning brad,

I am so sorry it took so long to get back to you. I have been in Florida and I find it impossible to use my cell phone to get on HP. In any case, I will miss our knish and egg cream days. It would be great to keep in touch. I wish you all the good things life has to offer. Thanks for always having my back.

Robert Elias Ballard (Fiddleman) on September 30, 2019:

Pop I removed myself from Hun Pages when everything had to be more perfect and I haven’t been a faithful reader. You are an amazingly gifted writer. Your writing has always been a reflection of decent level headed statesmanship which sadly in our times have given way to the lunacy of some whose hatred for our President overides common sense and dignity. I wish you the best and I’m sure you will continue to share in some other venue. So blessed to have met you on HP and wish you the best,

Yves on September 22, 2019:

Understandable, Pop. We can only visit hell and the freaks therein before we begin to feel the life blood being sucked out of us. That's what vampires do. They steal.

You played a good game.

We appreciate that you and the bugs now need some R & R. We're gonna miss the Inn, but we understand.

Best wishes, Patti.

bradmasteroccal on September 21, 2019:

I totally agree and understand your decision.

My computer died a few weeks ago and along with it my forgotten password. I can only view and comment as a guess here.

This is my only guest comment, and I am glad to be able to let you know how I will miss your articles and all the great food at the inn.

Only the memory of hubpages exists today.

There is life beyond hubpages, enjoy it.

Brad

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Dear Jennifer,

Thanks so much, but this whole scene is out of control. Thanks for always being so supportive. See you at the Inn in a bit.

Jennifer on September 15, 2019:

I’m so sorry to read this, however I can’t blame you. People are nuts!!!!!! I don’t get on often enough but when I do I always loved your writing. Best of luck my friend oxox

Dear Francine,

The piñata event would be great, but are you even going to miss me!

Francine19 on September 15, 2019:

I'd love to witness the piñata event. Keep me posted, I'll mark my calendar!

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Good Morning ag,

Great news! I can't wait. Sharpen your darts!

A B Williams from Central Florida on September 15, 2019:

Count me in, I have some great margarita and salsa recipes! (Paula can name them)

I will definitely be participating in the games.

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Good Morning Hxprof,

The political scene has grown so ugly that cutting it loose from my life is an act of self preservation. I wish you all the best going forward, but for now I'll see you at the Inn tonight. Nadler is going to be a piñata!

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Good Morning Pamela,

I have thoroughly enjoyed your friendship and informative writing over the years. You are a terrific person, and I hope we keep in touch. Be well, Pamela. I'll see you later at the Inn. It should be loads of fun.

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Good Morning, Lori,

I will miss you terribly, but I know we will keep in touch. The whole political scene has grown so ugly that I have to break away from the insanity. Be well and be happy, Lori. You are an amazing human being and I feel blessed to know you. See you later at the Inn. Big party tonight with lots of games and good food.

breakfastpop (author) on September 15, 2019:

Good Morning Paula,

You won't be rid of me that easily. Let's keep in touch. I absolutely adore you. You bring common sense and a sense of humor to impossible situations. As for the last night at the Inn, I think a party is just perfect. I love the idea of Nadler as the piñata. Let's get the Squad together for pin the tale on the donkey using darts! Drinks are on me!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on September 15, 2019:

Paula's party sounds great,, and I am still laughing. I will be there!

Lori Colbo from Pacific Northwest on September 14, 2019:

Oh my goodness Paula, you have me laughing out loud.

Suzie from Carson City on September 14, 2019:

pop....Been thinking all day about you leaving. I volunteer to throw your Exit Party at the Inn. Got the menu all set.....Donald Dumpling soup, Trump Turkey Salad and Melania muffins.....For dessert, Conservative Cranberry Cream Cake.....Music by Josh Grobin, Andrea Boccelli and some Johnny Mathis for the Boomers.....Conservatives only, invited, Libertarians will cover the parking lot and security. We'll sing and dance and party hardy.......For a special activity, I'm bringing in Jerry Nadler as our Pinata.

Guess who I've scheduled for clean-up crew?.......ROFLMAO!!

Hxprof on September 14, 2019:

Pop, I'm sorry that it's time for you to go. You're absolutely correct that things have taken a really sour turn.

Best to you in whatever you do going forward!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on September 14, 2019:

I am so sorry to see you go. I think I understand how you feel, but I feel like I am losing a good friend. We share the same views and I have looked forward to reading your articles so frequently. Maybe I will see you on Facebook. I do wish you the best. I am sure you put much thought in this decision. I hope you will keep in touch.

Lori Colbo from Pacific Northwest on September 14, 2019:

Oh, I am literally crying. I will miss you so much. You are family here on HP. I was hoping you would pick other topics but I respect your decision and I think as far as writing about politics it's a good one. All of the toxicity can weigh you down and you don't want to become bitter.

I will miss pop, the bloody marys and delicious breakfasts. Whatever your next move is, know that we are thinking of and missing you. I wish every blessing God desires to give you.

Suzie from Carson City on September 14, 2019:

pop....."Happy Trails," to you & all the critters. I'll miss your wonderfully informative, straight-forward writings! No need to miss YOU because we still have email!! I'll keep in touch now & then & hope you will too, my good friend!

Think nothing of the fact that you have forced me out onto the streets to beg for Sunday morning breakfast! It's OK....I'll get by. It's sad to think of an "Out of Business" sign on the door of the Inn.....then again, back in the day, I was kicked out of a whole lot of bars!!

Tell you what, girl....I totally understand your sentiments....and DITTO, BTW. I'm so utterly sickened by it all, I've slowed my pace down around here to a bare minimum. Haven't published a dang thing in forever & narrowed my "circle" down to a few SAFE choices....because I can't & won't get into the insanity. You are correct once again & as always...."Unless & until.........we may be lost forever."

Keepin the Faith, girlfriend.....Peace, Paula

Sending best wishes to you, my friend. You have added greatly to the discourse here at HP, and I will always respect your love for this country. Thank you for caring so deeply.

A B Williams from Central Florida on September 14, 2019:

Hi Pop, I will miss you here! :(

You are ‘the voice’ of common sense and reason.

But...I get it!!!

I too have pondered making this move, but (like you) it will be on my terms and not because I feel forced out.

Be well and good luck with your new venture.

Please send me an email from time to time.
