Multiculturalism in America

James A. Watkins is an entrepreneur, musician, and a writer with four non-fiction books and hundreds of magazine articles read by millions.

Cultural Marxism

Beginning in the 1920s, a group of Marxist Atheists now known as the Frankfurt School began plotting the corruption and overthrow of capitalist countries by systematically undermining their cultures, a strategy known as Cultural Marxism. The idea is to use art, music, education, and all forms we use to communicate concepts and memes such as various media. The aim is to condition people to accept the essential elements of Socialism/Communism without identifying them as such.

After a few generations of this conditioning, Marxism becomes the new reality without violent revolution and without even an awareness that a new cultural paradigm has been quietly installed. The success of this strategy is apparent as we witness creeping levels of Socialism increasingly accepted in Western nations by people conditioned not to know the dangers.

Cultural Marxism came into vogue among American student radicals in the 1960s, under the influence of Herbert Marcuse. This relatively small number of Marxist revolutionaries started the New Left, and spawned the cherished 'progressive' programs that permeate public education from kindergarten to graduate school in the United States. One of these programs is Multiculturalism.

Traditional American Culture

"The bosom of America is open to the oppressed and persecuted of all nations but they should not come as groups as to retain the language, habits, and principles which they bring with them. Rather they should settle as individuals ready for intermixture with our people and so become assimilated to our customs, measures, and laws: in a word, soon become one people." George Washington

The Judeo-Christian nation of America has been a beacon of light to the world's oppressed for centuries. To live in America, millions of people braved the Atlantic Ocean; made it across the Caribbean Sea on a makeshift raft; or stowed away in the cargo hold of an Asian ship that came via the Pacific Ocean.

America was the Promised Land; the most blessed nation on earth; the one nation that welcomed them and offered them freedom and opportunity. They wanted to be Americans.

What defined an American before multiculturalism? An American was a sovereign individual; with liberty but also the responsibility that comes with that liberty; unlimited opportunity to be whoever you could be; to succeed or fail on your own merits; to be independent and self-reliant; to be equal under the law; to adhere to the Protestant Work Ethic—all of these being core Christian values. Americans did not question that their belief in God and His Bible were the foundation of a prosperous life in a great society that has been uniquely blessed by God.

Public school teachers today relentlessly inject doubt about all of this into the minds of American children. There is a strategy to condemn America as a racist, oppressive nation in order to fundamentally transform it by first dividing it and by making it appear not worth defending.

"You cannot become thorough Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. America does not consist of groups. A man who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular national group in America has not yet become an American." Woodrow Wilson

What Is Multiculturalism?

Judge Robert Bork describes multiculturalism: "A philosophy of antagonism to America and the West;" as well as "An attack on America, the European-American culture, and the white race, with a special emphasis on white males."

Judge Bork goes on to add this: "A curriculum designed to foster understanding of other cultures would study those cultures. Multiculturalism does not. Courses are not offered on the cultures of China or India or Brazil or Nigeria, nor does the curriculum require the study of languages without which foreign cultures cannot be fully understood.

"Instead the focus is on cultures that, allegedly, have been subjected to oppression by American and Western Civilization—homosexuals, American Indians, blacks, Hispanics, women, and so on. The message is not that all cultures are to be respected, but that the European culture, which created the dominance of white males, is uniquely evil. Multiculturalism follows the agenda of modern liberalism, and it comes straight from the Sixties counterculture. But now, in American education, it is the dominant culture."

The Woodstock Generation

The Woodstock Generation, of which I am a part, wanted to destroy all authority, tradition, and custom in America. This includes wherever these hated things may be found in our religion, government, media, public schools, and universities.

The radical Atheist Marxist revolutionaries of my generation fomented Cultural Revolution that they framed as sexual liberation, gay liberation, and the liberation of women from the "shackles" of a patriarchal society. The result has been rampant promiscuity, adultery, divorce, abortion, the destruction of the family, gender confusion, and the AIDS epidemic.

Part of why I am writing this is that I am deeply sorry for my generation's role in the deconstruction of all America held dear and near. "Do your own thing" and "Love the one you're with" and "If it feels good do it" are flawed slogans for human society. We were wrong. Profoundly wrong.
