What do we know about Mitch McConnell?

Addison Mitchell McConnell III was born on February 20, 1942 in Alabama to an affluent family. His birth made the social announcement in the Alabama Courier, February 26, 1942.

Congratulations:

Mr. & Mrs. A.M.McConnell II are are receiving congratulations in the birth of their son, born in Colbert County hospital, Feb. 20, at 8:30 pm. This fine young man will have the honor of bearing the name Addison Mitchell McConnell III.

McConnell went to a segregated school, because desegregation did not take effect in Alabama until 1963.

McConnell grew up in a state that supported secession in order to preserve slavery. And yes, it's true that McConnell's ancestors owned slaves and after slavery ended, the census shows family members that kept blacks as servants.

His ancestors' James McConnell, Samuel McConnell, Addison Mitchell McConnell, Addison Mitchell McConnell II, were all influential and affluent men. The eldest owned slaves and at the time of their death, they were listed as Reverends. Men of the cloth who owned slaves, a great hypocrisy.

When asked about descendants that were slave owners, Mitch McConnell said, "I find myself once again in the same position as President Obama. We both opposed reparations and we both are descendants of slave owners.

He then went on to justify his stance on the difficulty of how to figure out the compensation. He said, "We've tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a civil war, by passing landmark legislation, we've elected an African American President.

Let's get some facts straight.

  • On McConnell's slave ownership, he is correct, McConnell's family both maternal and paternal roots are traced back to slave owners. Obama's father was from Kenya and it was his American mother's side of the family that were slave owners.
  • McConnell, on reparations has continuously said that he is against it and he uses the word "we've" in trying to justify his reason for it. Compensation would be hard to figure out he said, but it really isn't, President Obama had a plan.
  • McConnell says that Obama is against it, but in April of 2015, the Republican News Network, Fox News said otherwise.
  • McConnell felt that "we've fought a civil war to free the blacks, but McConnell's descendants owned slaves and Alabama would easily give up its ties to America to keep their slaves, as they were pushing for cessions.
  • McConnell passing landmark legislation that helps anyone other than big business has been hard to locate.
  • It was evident by McConnell's one term President stance and blocking Obama legislation that it is highly unlikely that he voted for President Barack Obama.

When asked about reparations, Obama stated that he feared that reparations would set the tone that McConnell has pretty much used. What McConnell is saying is; look at what we've given you and you still want more.

What Obama wanted was to lift up the descendants of slaves by providing communities with good schools, jobs and health care. Those things that most American's have, but funding for the inner cities and Blacks keep getting cut. He wanted every child to be able to go to college if they desired, regardless of their color or income. He wanted to make sure that Blacks were treated equally when it came to education, health care, jobs and other needs.

14th Amendment: No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

President Obama wanted to give them the one thing their descendants were cheated out of and the civil rights fighters like Thurgood Marshall, Martin Luther King and others have fought for; Equality in this world and to be able to have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Obama's reparations were to lift Blacks up and give them an equal opportunity to get ahead in life.

McConnell's idea is to just say, No! The same stance he took during the Obama Presidency and to date, with the Democratic Congress in control. The only tool he uses is obstruction.

To gain more voters? That is the lamest reason I've ever heard. Under Bill Clinton, whom I not to happy with at this moment, but he had a program that worked. They had welfare and daycare (low rate) for mothers who were in job training or working. After they got on their feet, they got off welfare, but continued with low rate day care that was based on income to help them get on their own and eventually get off all assistance. It was working and then Bush and the Republicans came in and got rid of it. So, NO, it's not to buy votes, its to help the less fortunate. When I had my first child we hit hard times and had to ask for food stamps so that I could buy formula for my child. The system only gave us $99 a month in welfare and food stamps. I was grateful for it. In about 4 months things got better and I went to their office to tell them we didn't need it anymore. They told me it was set up on a 6 month program, in 2 months if we didn't renew it would end. We didn't renew. We bought diapers and formula and donated it to a church program that helped others in need.

In life if we don't help those that need our help and do it without judgement, than what does that say about us.

So, if we cut welfare from the poor, than we should cut welfare for the farmers that get government subsidies? Should we cut welfare from corporations that make millions and billions and pay less taxes than most of us? Their dependency on it has been going on forever. Farm subsidies started in 1929 and have continued to today. Corporations get upwards of $100 billion in corporate welfare a year.

Well at least I got your attention. Racism isn't nice no matter what race you are.

B: Because they do it to gain more voters, and that is like luring kids with candy. It is how they have operated in CA for several decades. It doesn't help the people on welfare because they tend to stay on it, rather than going on their own.

The difference between give a person a fish, versus giving them a fishing pole and allow them to get their own fish.

Making people dependent on the government is no different than drug dealers making their clients dependent on the drugs.

I did not ignore your answer, you choose to pick what you want. I'm not attacking whites. If pointing out the fact is considered racist, that is not my issue, it's the issue of the person that doesn't see it and decide to change it.

Brad,

If you go back to pre-civil war, the Democrats of that time are the Republicans of today. The parties have switched views during their lifetime and you have to go back to the time frame to see what the parties stood for.

Don't know where you come from, but the Whites settle the colonies. The slaves were brought in to work the plantations owned by the Whites.

Integration for education was in the 1960's, quotas came much later.

Why is it when Democrats give welfare to the poor to help them out it's the most evil thing.

But when Republicans give out corporate welfare likes its candy, no one complains?

How many whites are actually white? I am not a racist sir, never have been.

No. this article of yours is the most racist.

The Blacks have been in the country for over 400 years. Most of the white people in the US today, didn't get here until the late 1800s. A Civil War was fought to end slavery, white people died in that war, where was their reparation.

The democrats were in favor of slavery, and they continued treating the freed black slaves like that for 100 years after the end of the war.

In the 1960s there were the Civil Rights Acts that forced integration, and made blacks more privileged than white in getting jobs and getting into colleges. It just didn't take, and it is not the fault of the whites. It is the fault of the democrats for giving them welfare for generations, just like they give illegal aliens.

This is what they have accomplished in 400 years!

As for being white, my ancestors weren't into slavery. And how many blacks in America today are 100% black?

Wow, if that isn't the most racist comment I've ever heard. When you can't find a job to support your family, welfare is there. When government cuts your education fund and you get a sub-par education, how can anyone achieve an education past high school and get a better paying job? These are facts. And yes it was slavery that kept blacks subservient and uneducated. White's hung blacks that could read because they didn't want them educated so they didn't have to compete against them for anything.

Reparations will not and cannot achieve that goal. It wasn't slavery or civil rights violations that kept back the blacks. They as a race has succeeded based on their genetics in sports, and music, but they also excel in welfare, and non education. These are facts, not opinions.
