The leadership style of John F. Kennedy has been studied by many leaders throughout history. This style emphasizes taking responsibility, compromising, action, and compassion. Taking responsibility

One of the most significant leadership styles of John F. Kennedy was taking responsibility for one’s actions. People typically blame other people for their mistakes or their own actions. This strategy is called escapism. However, John F. Kennedy believed that we should not blame the president for our problems and instead should look to ourselves for solutions. The servant leader works to reach the goals of the group, rather than focusing on their own interests. John F. Kennedy was a servant leader who worked to create an environment of comfort for Americans. He also extended the quality of the national culture and elevated the role of the arts in a vital society. By using these traits, he brought America to a new era.


The domestic agenda of John F. Kennedy was set forth in his acceptance speech to the Democratic National Convention in July 1960. However, Kennedy was unable to call on a Democratic majority in Congress to support progressive legislative reforms. Because of his northeast establishment background and domestic priorities, Kennedy was distrusted by many Southerners. As a result, he viewed himself as having little choice but to make compromises on his legislative program.

Kennedy had to yield to the convention of “senatorial courtesy” by appointing judges in the Southern United States. Although the president wanted to achieve racial integration, his judicial nominees were anti-civil rights and had fewer records than Eisenhower’s nominees. Nonetheless, the civil rights movement was rekindled and civil rights were enacted.


As President of the United States, John F. Kennedy demonstrated a great deal of action leadership. He inspired American citizens to pursue space exploration and moved the moral compass of the country on civil rights. While occupying the Oval Office during a turbulent post-World War II period, Kennedy’s leadership on civil rights helped transform the conscience of the nation. Specifically, Kennedy’s nonviolent approach to the civil rights movement deeply affected the national conscience.

The Kennedy administration was also a time when bipartisanship was necessary to get legislation passed. Today, the Republican Party is ideologically homogeneous, requiring 60 votes to pass legislation. JFK took advantage of these circumstances to make important decisions and achieve his goals. In his speech, Fenn analyzed the political climate during the Kennedy era. He described the environment in which he found himself as president as an example of effective action leadership.
